Creepy, yes ? Well anyway, I've noticed a lot of you are quite knowledgeable about a myriad of subjects, and it makes me feel out of place. I mean, you all seem to know you're fairly intelligent, whereas I see myself as just average. Should I.. be here ? Am I just going to be the forum's designated "special", or am I good and over analysing everything ? XD

I joined this forum more than two years ago.

Don't worry you're just new to the party, you'll settle in.

Okay but just a fair warning, I'm not that smart. I only know about building things, outside of that I'm almost always clueless ! :P

I don't think many of us on this site lack intelligence, maybe in some areas but we have our strengths in others.

It's not that any of us are knowledgeable about anything, we're just really "open". At least that's the way I see it. Any INTP can be open even it's your case where your claim (probably inaccurate) of being only of average intelligence is true.

You're probably just over-analyzing it. When I joined this forum I didn't do any intro's or post in the lounge. I just started posting on whichever thread I was interested in.

You're fine. Some here know a shit ton, others are like talking to a tree stump, and there are plenty of intellectuals and pseudointellectuals inbetween.

This is largely a place of discovery, exploration, and learning; and who knows, your knowledge may come in handy sooner than you expect. Diversity of thought is by far the strength of this forum.

This forum used to challenge me, years ago when I recently joined in. I feel like it lost its touch, somewhat. I think you overestimate this forum. No offense to recent members. the doc up there^ has a good relationship with knowledge.

You are slightly absent on your 'P' there, immediate warning for suppressing yourself. Be that ole' EST(F)P that you are.

OP: I know what you mean. I feel out of place here as well. There's many intelligent people who can offer great advise/insight on any topic. They're fair, honest and make good points. Then there's folks like me who don't have much to offer but still enjoy expressing their thoughts. It's good to practice not being shy. Anyway, it won't take you long to filter out who's got the goods.

Word, It's maybe not the rest of us, it's maybe one aspect of your INTP coming out: It's not new and glittering, you know what to expect, so you are somewhat bored with us. A certain number of people come, stay a year or two years, then move on. Others of us seem to stay forever. But the forum itself is indeed constantly changing, with new people coming in, lurkers coming out and surprising us with their insights, etc. And it's purpose isn't to challenge anyone, that's just an occasional happy byproduct. The forum just "is." So maybe, just to overthink things some more, you have inappropriate expectations?

Well this does make me feel better. Idk I don't really feel I posses any kind of special insight, but we'll see !

Maybe.
So all the people that regularly post, have they been here for a while ?

Proper Syntax, healthy curiosity, willingness to be honest about yourself, and knowledge you're willing to share within your own experience. You'll fit in very well.

Hey, you're conscientious enough to use good punctuation and stuff, so I wouldn't worry about intelligence bullshit.

I wonder how often people become disillusioned with MBTI itself but just stick around for a while because it's a familiar and comfortable place to snark out and shit on everything. That's why I'm here.

"So all the people that regularly post, have they been here for a while ?"

No. Brand new people sometimes post five times a day due to the excitement of finding out there's an entire community of people like them. Whereas, we are discovering, there are also people who have lurked here for a LONG time without posting a thing.

I stick around because I enjoy basking in the glow of those who light up when they find out there's a forum like this, and because it is one of the few places I can go where people don't find me hard to "read". Occasionally I can dredge up some stupid thing I've done due to INTPness over a long life and spare someone younger the need to repeat the experience. That's always interesting.

Does punctuation actually matter that much ? I mean, sure it's annoying, but I'm a bit of a comma whore, and I can't even blame it on english not being my first language haha.

EditorOne - What kind of stupid things ? I'm curious now !

I have the same problem as you Bunny. I don't have much life experience and even in the subjects I "specialise" in, I still don't know much.
I stick around for the interesting subjects, but I'll forever be a lurker. :kilroy:

I'm also curious EditorOne.

I think all of us are (somewhat) knowledgeable on certain subjects and aren't that bright when it comes to others. I can talk for hours about WW2, Christianity, English/books, music, and a lot of science related things but there's others (such as electronics) that I know almost nothing about. Everyone has different interests so they'll end up feeling quite stupid around other people that are knowledgeable in subjects that they are not knowledgeable in (wow, I hope that made sense).

Not to mention the fact that some members are older, as experience clearly plays a large role in how much knowledge a person has generally acquired.

It's funny to see how when I used to post here about 2 years ago, threads exactly like these would pop up, where lurkers would finally make a post and/or thread and think they don't belong here because everyone here seems so massively intelligent. So yeah, I don't think you need to worry about any of that stuffs, since there seems to be people like you out there right now at this very moment...just looking...watching us...oh god why :phear:

But hey, at least you were one of the guys that had enough courage to actually post, so that's worth a pat on the back at least ;D

as for me, I just tend to hang around here for some of the funny super laughs I can get, because sometimes, once every blue moon, you can catch this forum at the right moment, at the right place, and with the right members...well, it can be pretty damn Hillarrrious ^^

and oh yes, about this

but I'm a bit of a comma whore

Comma's are my whores, and I am their pimp :P
