My guess is it's a natural response common to the entire human species. One theory posits that it's a "false alarm" signal, evolved to alert surrounding humans of averted danger. Interesting point though - as a child I had to be taught to laugh. I didn't do it naturally. My father would say "ha ha ha" and I would slowly mimic him.

The very idea of this thread is just begging to be mocked. To create a 'serious' thread with no other topic than to be serious is like staring at a 5 year old right in the face and repeatedly telling him kindly "don't laugh". He'll initially try to contain it, but he'll just burst out laughing!

A thread will remain serious if it has a serious topic. This is quite a comical topic to begin with. Then again, if the true object of this thread is actually to just see our various reactions, then it is a success - and this is my reaction.
