Write your thoughts and sayings here.

I'll start with my thought of the week.

"Life is a beast. You can try and control it but it has a life of its own."
By me.

hmm. Life has a life of it's own. If that life is similar to the bigger life, then every life has a life, and there is no end to the madness of life. Now we just need to fabricate a meaning for it all.

Two facts define my world.
1. Existence is certain. (Descartes)
2. Every feature of existence is illusion/relative/uncertain. (Buddha, Einstein, Heisenberg, etc.)

"Everything is relative." That short statement probably sums up more of my perspective (or peculiar lack thereof) than any other description I could come up with. Going one step back up the existential ladder, "Cogito ergo sum" struck me as intensely clever and explanatory when I first read it as a young man. This simple statement completely discounts one's own perspective, but uses the fact of that perspective to prove existence itself.

The two observations tie together for me. There is both complete solidity and absolute fluidity. They lead to two conclusions that seem polar opposites, but actually support each other. I write business proposals, not poetry. Don't quite know how to put it ...

... Certain illusion of relative uncertainty?

Hm, i often find phrases which i enjoy much, but am not one who easily has fifty quotes in his head.
So for now i'll only repeat my signature:
"Enlightenment is man’s leaving his self-caused immaturity." - Immanuel Kant

It's not actually you that I'm interested in, but I surely would like to hang out with your brain for a while.
Or something like that.

If something can be proven, it can also be not proven. We are all innocent and we are all guilty, but you cannot say that to the Horseman, because he always thinks he is right and everybody else is wrong. It is Irrational (SF).

"An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded."

More truth to that than an INTP might first realize...

"Life's a bitch. If she's ugly just close your eyes and get it over with."

Some guy in A Song of Ice and Fire, probably Tyrion Lannister.

Why can't I edit?

I only just realized how much there is in that saying: Consider a bitch not in the meaning of offensive but rather descriptive. That would mean life gives you pleasure, even if it's "ugly". You then just have to "close your eyes".

"life's not a bitch, life's a beautiful woman. you only call her a bitch cuz she won't let you get that pussy. or maybe you don't share any similar interests. or maybe you're an asshole that couldn't sweet talk the princess."

thats actually lyrics from a rap song (Aesop Rock) but i think its a good response to the idea that "life's a bitch". basically, i think its saying that life isn't the bitch, its you (not you personally, just any general "you" that happens to be reading this and thinks life is a bitch) that's the bitch and doesn't allow themselves to be happy with life. perhaps we expect too much from life? or we expect that enjoyment should just be given to us (the analogy of the pussy)? perhaps life is a bitch because we make it a bitch (the analogy of not sweet talking the princess)?

anyway, two philosophies that i generally live my life by:

you're better safe then sorry. although this can often cause me to be avoidant of things that aren't immediately pressing, or overly cautious. i tend to leave almost everything i do open ended to be safe, because i don't want to regret doing something too brash later on.

expect the worst, but hope for the best. i'm incredibly pessimistic, i almost always imagine the worst ways things can turn out, but i often find myself saying "i hope this happens" or "i hope that doesn't happen". it causes me a lot of unnecessary worrying and anxiety.

Do you think it's strange I write down my own quotes?

These are products of long thinking sessions, mostly as a result of a good book, article or movie. And yes, you do see some Shakespeare influence in there...

"Aim for perfection and pray you never get it."

"When that guy wrote "god works in mysterious ways" he really meant "God has a twisted sense of humor"

"Life is like a good book. It has its beginning and its end. Its complications and its solutions. Its comedies and its tragedies."

"Why is winter cold? Is not a hot chocolate warmer than a summer's day? Is not the city of white so much more pure?"

I have lists of quotes on my computer on various subjects which I'm sure you don't want to bother reading :D
