Crater Lake seems like a really cool place. #1 on my list of places in the US for next time I am able to do some major traveling. Anyone ever heard of it or been there?

Yup, several times. It's gorgeous. Simple as that. But it's not the same as I remember as a child. More people, but there are some wonderful hiking areas and well...seeing it describes it better than I can. The color of the lake is a riveting blue and...well, go see it some day.:)

1 word: Wow.

But I wouldn't necessarily trust the picture 100%.

Cool. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own spades along: the lucky family who find the Judge's body wins a free tour of Brooklyn.

No, seriously. Trust the picture....except the picture does not convey the cobalt blue of the lake itself. It's a very clean lake and very blue.

Crater Lake rocks. There are tons of places in Oregon that are really worth a look. I grew up in Portland, and in my 3 years away I have come to realize how spoiled I am being from Oregon.

I can affrim that, if anything, the photo doesn't do it justice... oh! and that island, Wizard Island, is a growing volcano.. the active remnants of Mount Mazma, the volcano that formed the crater in the first place.. cool, huh?

Agreed. I've only been once, but it is pretty amazing. The cascades have a bunch of volcanic lakes that are worth hiking to and have a lot less tourist cache. I recommend Burnt Lake at the base of Mount Hood if you don't mind hiking a few miles uphill.
