I'm skeptical of tests that ask questions like these:

"In today's world, I feel justified in doing anything I can get away with to succeed. "

I mean... in this example, if you say yes, do you really feel that way, or are you feeling cynical? Or even if you feel that way, do you believe that? Or even if you feel and believe it, would you act on it? When this sentences says, "anything..." what specifically does that entail? Does that mean "anything" as in going to college forever, "anything" as in something horrible like flushing a goldfish down the toilet in order to move across country for a job, or something horrible like... flushing... a human... down the toilet... in order to move across the country for a job? If you were an actual psychopath, wouldn't you just lie for a job interview, or maybe play it up if you had something to gain by scoring high on the test?

It is easy to interpret the questions in several ways, but that is a problem with any self-report scale. While this scale is fairly superfluous because real-life (not Hollywood) psychopaths are really easy to spot, it is the best scale we have at the moment.

I have always been prosocial in ethical sense of the word but weird and sometimes very withdrawn. From time to time I'm so unsure of my possible actions that I appear not caring and obliviously there is always something behind the immediate. Always wanted to be fair but I need time for analysis. I don't function at the same level than most people and I have very little common with them. Much more ethical (if this means reasoning) than moral (gut actions). -> I think the empathy (because I don't live on the same plane as others) is not there but I can have a lot of hidden reactive sympathy.

Comment: I have always beaten myself up for what I perceive as a lacking empathy for others. I think I did this because I found it difficult to relate to people's emotions. However, I have realised that although I am often unable to understand others emotions, I equally understand the power of being there for someone and doing whatever is required for them to feel better at the time. It is important that people are allowed to express their frustrations and grief as a first point of reaction. I have come to understand underlying motivations for people's behaviour and can therefore empathise with people who are considered by most to be 'undeserving'. Although, just because I do understand reasons for behaviours does not mean that I condone it.

With respect to rule breaking and such I do have pretty strong ethics, as long as the rules are not unethical from my perspective. This is, of course, highly contextual and potentially quite complicated.

I have strong empathy, but I didn't grow up with that empathy- I developed it to improve my ability to influence (manipulate) others. Understanding people and their emotions helps me to say or do the things to get them to behave the way I wish them to. But my overall goal is the betterment of humanity. Equality. Social and technological advancement. Is that psychopathic? I do believe I am better than most people, that most people are incompetent and foolish. The question is, is that arrogance, or honesty?

Interesting. I don't think I'm a psychopath; I'm not at all greedy, I don't manipulate people to get what I want, I (occaisionally) have emotions. I can certainly see how I would come off as one to others, though I doubt I actually am. On the rare occaisions that I do manipulate people, it's usually because they won't shut the hell up and stop bothering me, which I suppose is somewhat for personal gain, but not in the traditional sense.

If I`m even a 1 on a scale of 1 to 5, then I assure you all that my ex wife is an 11!

But I did find at least one of the questions too vague. I remember a question: "Do you consult people before acting?" I said "neutral," because it didn`t specify whether the situation even concerns other people or not. If it concerns no one but myself, then of course I`m not going to look for other to bother, seeking approval from them. If however it is a matter in which my actions directly affects certain others, I will naturally make every effort to consult those others who are directly involved before acting.

Not sure how scientific this test is but it`s free so what the hey.
