Hello. :o

Awkward intro aside, I will tell you things about myself. My name is Amber, though I am also prone to going by my self-styled pseudonym, AnbuRose. I have managed to successfully survive just over 8,742 of Earth's rotations around the sun
(this, of course, assumes I did the math correctly). I am working as a Nurse Assistant at a senior community-- or rather, I will be in three days. I am a chronic procrastinator. I can't swim.

Some things I like doing:

- Reading
- Music (consumption and creation)
- Video games (PC)
- Programming (this has actually seen a revival)
- Writing
- Internet procrastination

Things I like doing but haven't as often as I'd like lately, and need to do again:

- Drawing
- Meditation
- Visiting the library
- Learning random things for no reason
- Video games (console/handheld)

And that's all I've got. Thanks for reading. :)

Why can't you swim?

I also have the swimming ability of a rock. My reason goes back to a traumatic experience of being trampled on the bottom of a pool at a water park, where I would have drowned had it not been for someone walking past who caught a glimpse and saved me. So much for staying in the shallow end...

And your reason?

Also, welcome to the forum.

Common sense and Occam's razor tell me that what you wrote is either not what you meant OR could be expressed more clearly.

Have you read any books that you would recommend for just everyone? I understand, people like different things, but there are some, that we have hard time imagining others could not like.

What's your programming language of choice and why? Do you know any that you really like, but haven't gotten a good go at?

I've got a similar reason, actually... bad experience with water. I was at a beach with my mother's ex-aquaintance-or-something (he was madly in love with her, she couldn't stand him, long story), and he was showing me body-surfing. It looked so cool when he did it, I tried it myself; however, instead of merrily floating me along the water like it did him, the tide bowled me over and I nearly died. A couple of bystanders got me out of the water (I'm upset that I never learned who they were, as the salt water was burning my eyes, so I didn't open them.) I've been scared of swimming since.
And thank you for the welcome. :)

Given that I am notoriously bad at expressing myself, probably both. XD Basically, I was trying to be a smart aleck and wrote out my age (24 it is) in days instead of years (which might have come across if I had said orbits around the sun rather than rotations... I am ashamed now. :() However, I am equally as notoriously bad a mathematician as a speaker, and I'm not sure if multiplying 364.25 by 24 is the correct equation (an old friend of mine told me years ago that that is the actual number of days in a year). Also, it's possible I sounded snotty and still do. XD I've been called out to this end before... it's purely accidental, and I'm sorry.

Anyway, long winded rant aside... I would recommend the Harry Potter series, The Three Musketeers, pretty much everything by Edgar Allan Poe (my favorite story is Loss of Breath), the Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and most recently for me, Attack on Titan (it's a manga, but still.)

So far, I like CSS, solely because I'm kind of an artsy/design person, and CSS makes the visual design part of coding websites much easier than formatting inside the tags (the way I initially learned), and Ruby, solely because, in my opinion, it's far less frustrating than JavaScript. XD Ruby is just faster for me to pick up somehow. I've also been thinking of trying my hand at C#. I used to want to learn PHP as a kid, but never got around to it.

There is no need to apologize, expressing thinks in a different matter provides a different perspective, a fresh look. You did it without going overboard and/or making it tedious to figure out your age in years (e.g. you didn't express your age in seconds). I would even take the idea further and point out that with each rotation around the Sun, the Earth does not come back to nearly the same place in the universe (if we could somehow agree on an absolute coordinate starting point, which is a whole different can of worms) what with the Milky way both rotating around it's own and moving though the universe and away from other galaxies.

Your math was good, I just think you meant 8742 Earth's rotations around it's axis, not as many orbits around the Sun. If your initial statement was indeed correct, then I have a whole slew of inquiries (like, "how did you become immortal?").

What a coincidence, in the last year or so I did look up Circle of magic, thought I would read it and then got sidetracked and forgot all about it. Thanks for a reminder :)
I already went though Potter and the Musketeers. Wish I could forget all about the Potter and then have the wonder of reading it again for the first time.
I am quite sure I read some works by Poe, but for the life of me don't remember what. Will look into.
I have seen quite a few Attack on titan episodes, but never considered reading the manga. Considering how books often cover more details and perspectives, I might get my limbs on that too.

Ahh, my tiny experience and knowledge of programming so far consists of mostly languages like C++ or bash. My knowledge of web development, however is maybe just a little better than that of a layman. Really ought to correct that.

Ah, my science was bad... now I really feel ashamed. :'( You wouldn't mind discussing this in more detail with me, would you? I want to know where I went wrong here, but Google isn't helping right now (probably a faulty search term on my part, but I'm too lazy to figure out the proper term.)

Also, excuse my fangirling but YES. The manga is a must. The anime is great, but there's a lot of relationships and nuances that were left out (or added) to the storyline.

I don't quite plan on it. You're all stuck with me. Forever.... forever. (Good lawd, that sounded so yandere I scared myself. XD)

- Mostly rock, almost any genre (though I can mostly be found listening to punk, metal, pop-punk, and emo). I also like jazz, R&B, and classical. Favorite artists/bands are My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Simple Plan, Halestorm, Lacuna Coil, Cavo, Gackt, exist†trace, and Utada Hikaru.

- Yes I do. It can be kind of gross sometimes, but it will be worth it when my name is entered into the annals of scientific history. (And maybe having to work so close to people will improve my abysmal social skills. Maybe.)

- Assuming I'm only allowed one person: my immunity would expire before I finally chose my target.
Assuming I'm allowed multiple targets: I'd become a serial killer.
Either way, my hitlist is way too long to list here, and includes a couple of fake friends, a whole slew of childhood and current enemies, and a few political targets.

- This took a while to think about, and I will likely still question my decision later, but: cats. It would be fascinating to see if they really are evil masterminds, or if they just want to be petted and hand-fed ground beef.

You switched what denotes a year and what -a day. Earth fully rotates around it's own axis in a little less than 24 hours or a day. Earth orbits (or rotates around) the Sun in about 365.26 days (and so on Earth a year is relatively much longer than a day).
Now I feel like I nitpicked and screwed up all the merriment. I am kind of a prick, but usually I hide it much better.

Will check it out.

Welcome. Here are questions you should answer:

What's you're favorite amino acid?

What is your preferred method of warfare/committing genocide?

Do you have attached earlobes? If no, is your genotype heterozygous or homozygous dominant?

Do you read frequently? What is your preferred genre? What is (are) your favorite book(s)?

Haha, I don't mind... correcting people when they screw something up is how they learn. :p Thanks for explaining.

- Phenylalanine, for the sheer irony of imagining a mother accidentally breastfeeding a baby that's allergic to it.

- Feign surrender, regroup, secretly obtain resources from my ally which will make my army stronger, re-invade the enemy country out of nowhere and enslave it's people, then assault my ally without preamble before they have a chance to know what is happening (maybe Trojan Horse style, with a fake thank you gift), execute the king/queen, and force the citizens to labor in work camps.

- No. And I need to check that out, it would be interesting to know. (Sadly, due to circumstances beyond my control, I would have to have someone analyze my DNA for me.)

- Yes. I have a penchant for fantasy and sci-fi, but will also read mysteries, thrillers and horror. Favorite books are: Harry Potter, the Circle of Magic series, Kamikaze Girls (which I actually forgot to include in my list of novel suggestions earlier), The Edge on the Sword, and I'm currently in the middle of The Casual Vacancy and City of Ashes.

Hi. It's come to my attention that I lurk way more than I post, so here's my contribution.

If you like Harry Potter I strongly recommend Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. It's a retelling of Harry's story if he approached the world using critical thinking and the scientific method. I like it better than the original, to be honest.

Also, you seem pretty cool Otakupunk. :D

Hi Amber,

Wow, programming, drawing, writing and music...and you like video games. Have you ever made one? Sounds like you're super creative.

I am excited to say i am making a video game now for the first time, except I can't draw I use fitting, handpicked stock art but do have a lot of work in Photoshop for making layouts and such. I am making a simple card game in iOS Swift and have found it an exciting project so far. Procrastination happens but I am productive and keep slowly moving further with it.

Cheers and keep doing what you like!

I love attack on titan .Or at least I'm found of the manga and kind of eh about the anime. It seems we have similar interest though so that's cool.

Anyway, what made you decide on a senior nursing facility as your next job ( interest in geriatrics???? or availability????)?

What's the last book you've read (book not manga)?

What is the most delicious thing occupying your fridge right now?
