I am new to Meyers Briggs, but have found typing very fascinating. I took the test and as a result I am an "INTP". Fact is, some of the characteristics suit me well, but some do not. For example, I am not socially inept nor am I too relaxed. I like many, I am on the fence of this INTJ-INTP thing. I find similar qualities of each of these types in myself.

I'm usually social if I know you, but if I don't, forget it. I require a decent amount of alone time to think things out. This is how I know I am an introvert. Though, I would like someone to correct me if I am wrong.

Another thing that puzzles me about the INTJ type is they are supposed to be decisive. I actually find that I am very indecisive when it comes to making a decision-- I like to have my options open. My dad is an INTJ and he an absolute dynamo. I on the other hand am quite the procrastinater. I don't have much trouble starting projects, but I rarely finish them.

I find that if I don't know too much about a particular topic being discussed, I typically don't jump in unless it's to ask questions. I am not sure what type quality this would be referred to. Conversely, if I have researched a particular topic, I am the know it all in the room. I enjoy debating this until I win.

I'm trying to gather information to find out exactly which type I may be. I am finding inconsistencies in many of the types and I don't know if it is exactly common to not to follow all of the characteristics per type. I am assuming not.

I know you don't know much about it, but you can't really be on the fence between INTJ and INTP. I have an INTJ friend and an INTP friend, as well as being an INTP myself, and I can tell you the two types are very different. As I hear increasingly these days, from people who know what they're doing, look to the functions.

The J/P dichotomy is the one that changes the functions most. NT is the 'rational' temperament and E/I refers to whether one has a high or low threshold for energy, respectively. The energy could be lights, sound, social interaction...

Most obvious is probably Ti/Te. With Ti (INTPs have it dominant but this applies to all types with Ti in their stack) people pause when they talk. Man, I know a few people with Te and they do not stop talking. Really. The one I met recently talks very, very quickly. I've put a video link in the bottom of this video and the guy talking is an INTJ. Notice how he doesn't pause; that's the Te. He also really knows what he's talking about. There's also the famed 'INTJ stare'. It's a sort of intimidating thing. See the above owl image. It's actually a pretty good representation of myself and my INTJ friend in a slightly exaggerated way.

Read the thread You know you're an Intp when.... I suspect that either you'll relate to most of what is said there, in which case you're an INTP, or you'll feel like most of it doesn't relate to you, in which case you're not.

Thanks for all of the good information. That video was helpful. Now that I think about, I am not much like an INTJ. I can relate to almost everyone of those statements, scorpiomover.
