Okay, what the fuck just happened? That was either the best or the worst thing I have ever seen in my life.
You probably want to know what Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt is, right? Well, that's a very good question because it's not easy to answer. It's an anime made by Gainax. If you don't know about Gainax, it's one of the most famous anime studios of Japan who created numerous classic but also extremely weird, if not outright incomprehensible anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Melody Of Oblivion or Diebuster. But here's the twist, it doesn't look like an anime. It looks just like a western cartoon; the art direction is heavily inspired by shows like Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory or Invader Zim.
Here's the next twist: It's directed by the same man who directed the legendary anime movie Dead Leaves. If you don't know Dead Leaves, and I guess most of you don't, this is not saying too much. I'd like to describe Dead Leaves at this point but it cannot be described with words, it must be experienced. It's only 55 minutes long so what are you waiting for.
After that rather lengthy introduction and you now know PaSwG is you probably want to know what this show is about, right?
The story (what little of it there is) focuses on two fallen angels, promiscuous Panty and generally rude and cake-obsessed Stocking, who were kicked out of Heaven and sent to take out evil demon-like "ghosts" on Daten City under the watchful eye of Father Garterbelt. It doesn't make a lot of sense but under the surface and the dirty humour it's a merciless parody of everything what's wrong with anime and manga these days and some people already call it the Japanese Futurama.
