I had barely woken up this morning when my brain posed this question: "What are you doing in life?".

I'm depressed, right? Maybe I need religion, or another cat.

Have you ever had these thoughts? How did you deal/not deal with them?

Good morning!

This sounds like a pretty average morning for me. Also this question is very familiar. I guess it's just being INTP to be forced to overthink everything again and again, also things like your purpose in life and how do you feel about it.

Religion, I don't think so. A cat would be nice^^

Don't only focus on the negative sites, try to enjoy the little things, that's what I try to think about in this situations.

Yes. I did something.

P.S. I don't recommend another cat. It will only increase the severity of your inferiority complex.

Yeah, quite often.

So I make all kinds of plans, from what I am going to do that morning and in what order, to how it is going to spread out into the future and make everything better and great. And then I feel better.

And then I pick up a book, or get on the internet, or mull around tinkering with things that amuse me.

Later I think about it and notice I forgot to go past the planning stage.

Recycle. Repeat.

Every now and then I will suddenly accomplish super human feats in my life, and decide it is going so well I will for sure keep it up. But it never works out.

Seriously, I think one of my biggest accomplishments last year, was following through all year long with keeping a list of every book I read. It was major, no one seems to get this though. Major because I kept it up for an entire year. So what if it was only a list. I followed through for a fucking year with something I decided to do.

Like once an hour.

What I do is I try to distract myself. It's only a temporary solution, though, because when I've got some free time, it's back to existential nihilism for me...

I feel that's what most people do. They're directionless without a long-term strung in front of their eyes. I'm by no means a goal orientated person, which may explain this existential angst for meaning.

brb buying a dog.

Sit down and figure out what you want in life, then do it. Yep its that simple. Easy on the other hand...

So what makes you truly happy? (assuming of course happiness is what you want) Money? A woman? A cat? A woman dressed as a cat that has lots of money?

Money? Ok, do you want to be a: Doctor? Lawyer? Investment Banker? Movie Star? Drug Lord? The choice is yours.

That's the hard part. How many possible things are there to do? And how do you know you'll like it? Well you go out there and try something. Give it a good honest shot too. Then you will walk away with one of many life experiences which will zero you in.

What are you doing to achieve what you want?

If it was that easy, none of us would have difficulty doing it..

Finding out what you want in life is sort of the biggest challenge in life.

That said, I identify with the OP.

And it oft does not help to remember that clock ticking away incessantly, never mind needing pause to think it over.

Yea. I'm in a rut at work and I know (from much previous experience) what is coming next. Resentment, which will ultimately lead to me needing a change. Needing to quit and start something new.

Ugh.

A woman dressed as a cat that has lots of money?

Where do i go to order one of these?

I feel like that sometimes, so I start to plan out how I could go about making my life "fulfilling" and "productive" as considered by the outside world. Then I realize I don't want to do any of those things and would in fact hate doing them, which leaves me free to happily wander through life continuing to do what I personally find to be fulfilling.

See the thing about finding what you want is that nobody can do it for you. If you are not happy where you are it is fully within your power to:
A) Do something about your external situation.
B) Do something about your internal situation.

There's no single answer, rather 7 billion ever-evolving-answers. In fact there are no wrong answers.
