I hate it when people say "ok" or "OK." Drives me absolutely mad, really. Makes me want to kick innocent animals in the face.

For some reason I much prefer "okay". Perhaps because it is spelled out and looks more proper and neater than the others. Although I have researched which one is correct, and this one isn't.

But I still prefer it, no matter what anyone says!

Which ones do you tend to use? ;)

Okay. I will use "ok", but it doesn't feel complete to me. I don't care what other people use.

One could even shorten it to "K" or "k".

Ok or just K.

Verbally, I think it usually comes out as more of an mmkay.

For sure, capitalizing both letters is a tooth-grind inducing crime against aesthetics. It looks trashy and reminds me of a text message. I usually opt for "okay" even though it's pretty much incorrect. Most people treat it like the arbitrary semantic difference between "further" and "farther" though. Apparently the former typically denotes some type of impelling action and the latter involves distance, but they can be used interchangeably, and often have to be because speech is fuzzy. Who cares? Apparently me, haha.

Leave it to Auburn to be the cutest one here. *give Auburn nuggies*

As for myself, "OK", "ok", and "okay" are all fine. However, " 'k " is not ideal. It's so cute and childlike that I find it difficult to take anyone seriously if they say or type " 'k ".

Doing a big crime just for self-satisfactory in release of anger. DON'T they show civilisation better than us humans these days, yes.

To me, 'OK Ok and Okay' have the same intention. Wouldn't bother them.

it needs to be a lower case k. i don't want to drown in excitement or appear to be intoxicated. and let's not bloat it with a full stop. i don't have to make an agreement appear like it's 'my point' like oh suddenly it's my will. k is about letting go.

k is the one I dislike the most. Why even bother saying anything? I'd rather have someone be silent than them writing k (I don't really like ok, okay, or anything of that sort either). Like the people they are responding to aren't even worth the time of writing two damn letters to.

And yes, I know that the answer to this post is surely to be a "k", but perhaps by me mentioning it, I've reduced the chance of that happening somewhat.

Responding "k" to this would be too predictable anyway.

I end up saying "k" because I'm not really paying attention, like when someone's repeated themselves on the same point time after time. When less dismissive it's not what I say, I think I say "alright" instead. And maybe offer input.

Ok is such a "cultural" word. It's American, yes? I don't think I can translate it to any of the other languages that I know. I mean "Good" is different from "OK."

1839, only survivor of a slang fad in Boston and New York c.1838-9 for abbreviations of common phrases with deliberate, jocular misspellings (cf. K.G. for "no go," as if spelled "know go;" N.C. for "'nuff ced;" K.Y. for "know yuse"). In the case of O.K., the abbreviation is of "oll korrect."

Probably further popularized by use as an election slogan by the O.K. Club, New York boosters of Democratic president Martin Van Buren's 1840 re-election bid, in allusion to his nickname Old Kinderhook, from his birth in the N.Y. village of Kinderhook. Van Buren lost, the word stuck, in part because it filled a need for a quick way to write an approval on a document, bill, etc. Spelled out as okeh, 1919, by Woodrow Wilson, on assumption that it represented Choctaw okeh "it is so" (a theory which lacks historical documentation); this was ousted quickly by okay after the appearance of that form in 1929. Greek immigrants to America who returned home early 20c. having picked up U.S. speech mannerisms were known in Greece as okay-boys, among other things.

The noun is first attested 1841; the verb 1888. Okey-doke is student slang first attested 1932.
