My name is Ash and I just discovered my type is INTP, so I've been reading all about it and contemplating my future, if there is one.

I'm here because I'm stuck and have been for about 39 years. I'm looking for effective form/s of therapy and ways to get unstuck, mainly to actually think clearly and be effective.

I've bookmarked and will work through the therapy post on this forum as time allows.

It also must be stated: I abhor smilies but the ones here are quite good.

This is my current main project: http://youareephemeral.weebly.com

Always interested in talking about collaborations, etc... I'm also on several dating sites (why, oh why!), so if you'e in Australia, you've probably seen me around.

If you'd like to form a thinktank to fix online dating, send me a message with 3 recent pictures and a verified income statement. One of our scammers will be in touch with you shortly....

Hi Ash,

Welcome to the forum.

Fellow Aussie here. There's a few of us around.

What is it that you're stuck with?

Oh Hi, fancy meeting you here.... a fellow strayin. I just want to point out how weird it is to get a reply, let alone a positive one, and then from an Australian on any site ever....

I'm on the DSP Happy, drugged to the gills on Lexapro, wife's just left, breaking a lease in the middle of nowhere, no motivation or inspiration, no job (obviously) no friends, no contact with family.

And this, no joke, is the best life had been.

I'm not so concernd about the social side of things but more that I am depressed and unable to do the things I get satisfaction from - I have no inspiration and/or am really tense and tired a lot of the time.

Approached the problem/s in a variety of ways (diet, counselling,... moving to the middle of nowhere,....). I am starting to make progress by just noc\ticing that I am guarded - in general - don't have any contact with my feelings.

It would be really, really nice to meet other similar personalities (like your good self perhaps) and moreso a therapist who understands my predicament. I just want to be effective. I guess -motivated, internally rather than needing validation is part of it.

The game, for instance - I decided to start without a plan (due to bitter experience - with other people) this time and it's gone pretty great. But now it's reached an almost impasse where I've run out of skills and I need to learn a lot or find others to collaborate with.

I'd like to collaborate and have a composer who has volunteered but I hear from him maybe every 2-3 weeks and I still don't know what's going on. And he's one of the good guys. The bad guys are really bad - as in criminal bad.

Haha the internet isn't all bad.

Sorry to hear about your hardships. Sounds like you've had a pretty shit run recently... Its great to hear you're making some progress though!

Being effective is hard, but it's a great thing to practice continual improvement on. The most effective thing I have found in my experience (not that I'm any paragon of effectiveness - or a paragon of anything for that matter) is the 80/20 rule (aka Pareto Principle). I highly recommend Googling it.

Good luck with your game project. It sounds like it's going well. Stick with it and you'll eventually come to the end of your plateau.

PS
Here, read some roman stoic philosophy. I don't know why, but I get the feeling you might benefit from it, or at least enjoy it.

Thanks, I quite like the Stoics. :phear:

No, like I said - this is the good bit, the shit run was my life up till now. It's quite possible that I'm on a cusp, a pivoty-thing with finding this forum today and the INTP thing. Even the humour here makes sense. Even the smilies make sense, though I wish we had the Leunig one with the teapot and a duck.

Hmm, well by my measure, you do indeed seem to be an INTP.

Welcome.

-Get into some religious or spiritual shit. Get into it. Find some uplifting cult and it'll raise your spirits up and give you a sense of duty and purpose. You can use it as an elevator out of the pit you're in. It's helped me a few times and given me a high that lasts for a long time. You'll get an overall ego boost and all that (well depending on the system I guess.)

-listen to some cool music. I mean cool stuff. You'll be able to feel it.

-CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) was a major turning point in my life.
CBT is a psychotherapy that is based on the cognitive model: the way that individuals perceive a situation is more closely connected to their reaction than the situation itself.

One important part of CBT is helping clients change their unhelpful thinking and behavior that lead to enduring improvement in their mood and functioning.

CBT uses a variety of cognitive and behavioral techniques, but it isn’t defined by its use of these strategies. We do lots of problem solving and we borrow from many psychotherapeutic modalities, including dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, Gestalt therapy, compassion focused therapy, mindfulness, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, interpersonal psychotherapy, and when it comes to personality disorders, psychodynamic psychotherapy. https://www.beckinstitute.org/get-informed/what-is-cognitive-therapy/

And as Artsu said, you seem very INTP. People here don't always come off as so.
