Okay, I want to put this to rest and find out definitively what my MBTI type is.

Accordingly, perhaps folks could ask me insighful, telltale questions to unlock this type.

So questions like what's your favorite ice cream should be excluded immediately.

The thing is, I think I have amassed quite a bit of self-insight over the years, but I don't know precisely it works with the MBTI framework. Everytime I look at definitions for the functions (e.g., extraverted thinking) it either contradicts another definition of supposedly the same thing or it's so poorly and vaguely phrased that I have no fucking idea how that applies to real life.

Mostly, I'll shoehorn in an answer for my type and feel good about it for a little bit, and then question again and again (knowing all the while that it's a flawed system anyway). Is that telling in itself? People close to me have speculated INFP and INFJ and INTJ and INTP with almost equal zeal and frequency. I can sort of relate to all of these profiles (forer effect?) and my endorsement depends on my mood, social desireability, etc.

So lets's cut through all that crap. INTPs like puzzles, so this thread shouldn't be that masturbatory on my part. Ask me some questions so I can move on.

I should definitely add that I am wondering about the last two letters...the first two are so strong that I tacitly accept them.

How would a person comment on the way you come off? If you can, in their words, not yours.

are you certain you have one favorite ice cream?
how long does it take you to decide on a flavor of ice cream, ice cream/soda combination etc, and how many interesting/odd flavors have you tried in your lifetime

Alright, to answer the questions in the order in which they came in, here we go.

Proxy, not sure where you're coming from with that one, but I tend to be quite abstract, future and possibility and pattern oriented. I would like to hear your opinions (and rationale) though if they differ from this impression. To be fair, I am also detail oriented and precise - a strength and a weakness - and being hedonistic once in a while is fun.

Eye, interesting question. I play this game with my family members where we (try to) encapsulate one another in five words, knowing that it says as much about the rater as the rated when we do this. Anyway, my sister, who is quite intelligent and perceptive for an ESFP (IQ 137) provided the following words for me: introverted, caring, studious, cynical, and smart. I think those were the five, it was over a year ago. I did the same thing with my dad and he would only pony up on three words, I think he said: discriminating, sensitive, and abstract. He's an INTJ by the way. To take this from another angle, someone on the street would probably find me intense, quiet or loquacious depending on who I was with, analytical to a fault, and maybe anxious/high strung at times. Then again, on another day, if I was by myself, they might think I was snobbish, uptight, and too reserved. Who knows? People are incomprehensible.

Kid, I infrequently imbibe in ice cream, but when I do it tends to be rocky road; that is, if it's on a cone or in a dish. A cookies and cream milkshake is perhaps my favorite ice cream treat, although it's really bad for you. If I had only one day to live I would opt for a large cookies and cream milkshake for sure. Also, I enjoy root beer floats. How many flavors have I tasted in my lifetime? Well, considering I'm only in my twenties...I would say approximately seventy flavors of ice cream. I was quite experimental as a youngster and lived close to an ice cream shop.

I never had reason to go against INTP, you sort of meshed well here. So with this information I still see nothing indicative of another type.

IxTPs tend to rationalize and reason when alone, like sorting out information, if it helps.

Well I don't find myself to be particular intuitive unless solving technical problems. An example of this is that I really don't understand metaphors. There is an exception. I can create metaphors that other people understand.

INTP:
My main question is, what line do you, personally, draw between short and long term gratification and why?

We look way into the future and secretly wonder if we'll make it that far and what we'll look like then and whatnot, but you could be hit by a bus tomorrow or be stricken with cancer next year...

:p Serious or not(actually, that's why).
