Hate them or love them?

Do you have difficulty waking up early?

In your ideal world, what time would you wake up?

I like them. Since my latest class starts at 10:15 and my earliest is at 9:00, I have quite a bit of downtime in the morning if I wake up at 7 or 8. As long as I get a decent amount of sleep and my alarm is loud enough, waking up isn't a chore.

Since my classes start at 8.30, and i just got back from going out (I'm drunk enough to behave extravertly), I decided I don't have any classes before 2.30 pm ;)

I love mornings. Sleep all day

Love them. 8 AM is the latest I'll wake up and it's usually much earlier than that. I'm usually most productive early in the mornings, so I like to get up and take advantage of that time.

I also enjoy the silence and lack of distractions in the mornings. It's very peaceful. Watching the sunrise is also one of my favorite things to do.

I like the quietness, the world waking up, and the coolness of the air in the morning. Especially in California there is this cool color in the sky that I've never seen anywhere else. I'm trying to wake up early nowadays, since I have to be awake by 6:45 if I want the car for the day.

I have the hardest time waking up before 11-12 naturally. My body just doesn't want to do it.

Most of the time I enjoy mornings from the other side.. When I've been awake all night and I can see the sun rise then fall asleep til one in the afternoon. But according to everyone else that's not practical.

I love the heart of the night for these exact reasons. I'll go to bed as others start waking up. (2~8 am).
The quiet, peacefulness. None bothers me, none questions anything, everyone's just minding their own business, exactly the way I'd like it.

I'm a night person. I wake up at 6:30 on Tuesday-Thursday for classes, but I wake up anywhere from 10-12 on Friday-Monday.

I used to hate them, but actually now I am enjoying them; unfortunately, I tend to sleep through the morning. When I hated them I would sleep in whenever I could and now it's become hard-wired into my circadian rhythm. I'm basically a night owl, and if I see the morning at all it's most likely coming from the wrong direction. ;)

Generally I hate them, but that's probably because I have the bad habit of staying up way too late. I might start to like them if I ever manage to break the habit, but it's hard to say how hard-wired that kind of thing is.

I don't really buy the 'hard-wired' claim. I spent about 18 months going to sleep past 9am. Get up at 6pm, bed between 9 and 11am. I enjoyed that.

Now I get up between 6 and 8am every day, and I enjoy it equally. It sucked at first, but after about 9-10 days it became completely normal.

How many others here would willingly or are already uninteltionally become nocturnal?
I thought about it for awhile.... Apparently you only need like 20 minutes of full sun a day to get all the necessary vitamin D. (Otherwise you suffer from depression)

So... Wake up an hour before sunset.. Practically speaking. Enough time to do grocery shopping

I'd love to wake up around 6 am, but unfortunately I usually go to bed between 2 and 3 am. :phear:

Maybe taking a long nap at noon would fix the problem? (too sunny at noon, ugh).

College is slowly doing this to me.

As someone who's worked shift work for 4 years, ranging from 5am starts to 11pm starts (8hr shifts), I've found the best way to change a sleeping pattern is to regulate the time you get up as opposed to the time you go to sleep. Don't have a nap, it will only make it harder for you to go to bed sufficiently early to get up at 6am.

I suggest:

- go to bed at the earliest 'normal' time for you, say 2am.
- set an alarm for 8am and force yourself to be up and about by 815am
- being on only ~6hrs sleep, you'll tire earlier than usual but DO NOT NAP
- no earlier than 9pm and preferably no later than 10pm, go to bed and stay in bed until 6am, no matter what. Just lie with your eyes closed even if you're awake.

You must absolutely avoid caffeine/energy drinks/processed foods. When you're already tired they just wreak havoc on your body.

Depending on how much sleep you normally have, you might want to have only 4-5 hours sleep from going to bed/getting up. You can if you wish, simply go to bed at 2am as normal and get up at 6am, if you're confident that you can stay awake until at least 8-9pm before going to bed again.

Something I find holds relatively standard across most people is that however many hours below your 'optimal' sleeping time you cut, you'll naturally sleep half of that value on top of your 'optimal' sleep time. I feel best when I sleep between 7 and 7.5 hours. If I sleep only 3-3.5, my body will need about 9-9.5 to really recover and feel optimal.

I generally consider myself somewhat of an expert at changing my sleep patterns almost at will. I can sleep any time of the day, and I can get up at 4am or 4pm and still feel great.

I love the early morning hours. I spent years working the graveyard shift and used to love cruising the streets between 4:30 and sunrise.

Definitely agree with this. I love it when the streets are empty.

Only problem is apparently the police have nothing better to do than sit in a fucking ditch at 3am to catch me speeding at 200kph on the freeway (125mph for all ye who deal in the abomination that is imperial units). Honestly such a joke that cops get paid - and that we get fined - for shit like that.

I really need to move to a country with unrestricted speed limits.

Generally speaking, my favorite time of the day is anytime when I'm alone without to many distractions or demands for my time. This usually ends up being either really early in the morning, when most people are still asleep or just getting out of bed, and really late in the evening after, most have had dinner and are vegetating in front of the television.

I drove a tow-truck, which granted me immunity to the police. :)

I've been getting up at 4:45 every day for the last two months in the military and yes I hate it. It seems like no matter how early I go to bed it's still just as hard to get up as the day before.

I guess you could consider six or seven pretty early but anything before that is just too much.

I live like this aproximately 5 out 7 days in the week. The other 2, I attempt to actually go to my classes.
I typically try to keep it within limits (wake up around 3 pm), but it's happened that I woke at 6 to rush to the shops before 6.30 or even just go to the one that's open till 8 so i can be slow and lazy. Living alone during holidays with the social excuse of retakes has gotten me to go for 30 hour days and 14 hour nights aswell.

As someone on here wisely stated : "I have needs, not habits". When I have no important things planned (most of the time), I easily do whatever I feel like, including sleep and food.

I have never gotten used to working a morning job. I used to work the evening, nights or overnight shifts, but now work a "9-5". I still hate it. The ONLY thing I love about mornings is wake-up sex, wake-n-bake and coffee....:smoker:

Don't worry, the Singularity will fix that problem. Meanwhile get your sleep, it helps you think better.

Meh, waking up is a massive challenge to me. I actually set my alarm two hours before I intend to get up these days, as I know I'm just going to lie in.

12-1am is always going to be the earliest I'll want to go to bed, I can work around that at the moment as a student, and I've been able to working before...

The only thing I like about mornings is that I feel like I can get a large portion of my day out of the way by noon. When I sleep in too late, I feel like my day is half over.

Aside from that, I love nighttime and would rather sleep.

I hate daylight. I like being awake when it's exceptionally dark or cloudy. It's only a "beautiful" day if the sun isn't out, in my opinion.

I hate waking up in the morning, but I don't mind them when I'm working graveyard or my sleep schedule has me up all night and morning. I really like sleeping during afternoons during the summer to avoid the heat. My days off are fantastic, too, since I can go out during the night when everyone else is sleeping. Perfect. It bewilders me that so many people prefer being up during the day when there are infestations of people everywhere.

Hopefully, whenever I get around to starting a career, I'll be able to work graveyard as well.
