And the sad part is that two life raft survivors I know of were passed by not just one ship, but by 3 and 7 ships.

No cartoon today, I'm afraid. I sliced three fingers open while trying to get a can lid off; my ring finger has a cut like 1/4 in. across and about as deep--a crippling injury for an INTP. Computer usage is impaired. :slashnew:

@Anna Moss

What software are you using to do the comics?

Also if you don't mind my asking, what are you doing in Alaska, other than MBTI based comics :)

Inkscape--it's a free, open source version of Illustrator.

I grew up here. :) I hunt moose and fish for salmon, but mostly I spend vast gobs of my time indoors on a computer. There's really not much to tell, actually...

Don't know if you need anything else, but there's GIMP = free Photoshop and Blender = free 3D modeling. You can just never have enough open source software installed on your computer!

Hello Anna Moss,

I am really a fan of your comics and I am sharing it to my INTJ brother when he is not in his Jerk mode.

By the way , are you also a Blender user? I use all the software you mention but I am primarily a Blender user, second GIMP, not much Inkscape. Just some 3d modelling :).

I have Photoshop. Inkscape is OK, not so great on OS X, maybe I'll just buy Illustrator.

Oh yeah, I love Blender! What do you do with it? I'm using it to make a game and maybe in the future a 2d-looking cartoon series using the Freestyle plugin. Heh, I even gave some thought to making this cartoon in Blender. :D I'm not actually at modeling, but sometimes I get close to photorealism. (dream dream)

Ah, too bad. Adobe charges pretty fiercely.

Yeah but I find it's better to get something professional. I've got my kid using Gimp (I used it when it first came out like 15 years ago). It's goofy compared to the polish of photoshop. And Inkscape requires X11, doesn't support OS X gestures, etc.

Oh, that's great also like freestyle build :). I am more into modelling characters - mostly anime styled characters of mine. I am also into rigging. Currently refining my character rig-system, so I can make it efficient and not very cluttered.
I only do posed characters but not that much into animation unless I am testing my rig. I am very far from photorealism.

Oh yeah, GIMP is no comparison to Photoshop. They certainly improved it in the 2.8 version, but even so. For Inkscape--not sure how much you need gestures, but you can get a free third party program (I like gMote, but there are plenty out there) and connect the Inkscape keyboard shortcuts/menu options to gestures of your choice. (You can make it so that they won't override the preexisting OSX gestures.)

I'm just getting into rigging; my ambition far outstrips my talent at this point. :p At this point, my only character models are two not-finished robots from the original cartoon Transformers. If you want, post/pm me some of your work--I'd be interested in seeing what you're getting out of Freestyle.

Trilobite growth series, what in the heck is that? Spot on about NT's remembering their passion for dinosaurs from their childhood, except in my case it wasn't lizards it was trilobites.

This is rather impressive.
You should consider pursuing your own web comic/series at some point.

Trilobytes once ruled the Earth! (A growth series is when you arrange specimens from youngest to oldest so that you can see how they develop.)

Thx Adaire; maybe I'll actually get serious about it one of these days.

The MBTI AI are probably the only ones I thought were a waste of my time.

I've been rearranging the dates lately in an effort to make stuff more coherent.

Any tips? I still have the files, so I can alter the comics at will.

It was a Big Five study. (See here for an overview.)

Since the instruments are correlated, we can make a fair case that neurotic Intuitives are the cat-loving types. Further, one MBTI/5-Factor correlation study found that Neuroticism was weakly correlated with the letter combo "IP." (Another study did not find this correlation, however.) I assumed that the IP/Neuroticism correlation applies at least some of the time, hence cat-lovers are likely than average to be INPs. But Neuroticism is also associated with being female, and since females are more likely to be Feelers, INFPs are more likely to love cats than INTPs. Finally, unbeknownst to all, Intuition is actually correlated with Perceiving, meaning that Ns are more likely to be Ps than Js. So that strengthens the argument for P.

Things are a bit more complicated though... the Big Five and the MBTI scales are related to each other in numerous smaller ways in addition to the main, well-known ways. I really didn't look into those--too complicated, no time--but I figure this is still good enough for a first estimate of cat-lovingness. <3 :cat: <3

Anyway, just last week the INFPs had a thread devoted to cats on PerC. No one would argue with anecdotal evidence, right? :p

(On a side note, I think Neuroticism is not so much a measure of personality as of how society has messed you up.)

I've enjoyed every single comic you put forth. They have a certain wit, and being MBTI internal humour makes it easy to relate to.

Anyway. Is there any particular reason that a slight predilection for Kersey's temperaments sits so terribly with NFs that it warrants physical action?

That remains to be explained. ;) (But you have read the earlier ones where they were on the life raft, right?)

Thank you. :)

Gratitude would only be necessary if I were gratifying you. That is to say, I plainly gave a compliment as a formal matter. I was not being courteous: I simply pointed out what it is. Hence there is no reason to thank me.

Yes, I have. I looked at it again though. What I was wondering about was whether this attitude towards Kersey's divide had some background in MBTI theory and the scholarly works in Jungian typology or just personal observations. I know why now, as I reread previous series. I am not that familiar with the antecedents of MBTI. However, my initial guess was right.

True, but your feedback is a useful data point for me. I would have been grateful for constructive criticism too. :)

It's one of the few controversies in the type community, and a rather small one at that. Occasionally you hear a type practitioner complain about how Keirsey's temperaments "just doesn't make sense" and then of course there are those who say that SJ/SP "just feels right." Both sides bother each other a bit by presenting the data they collect in their own favored way. It's not really a serious debate though--more like a friendly difference of opinion.

Turning people into ESTPs?
It's either genius or madness.

Alas, my drawing program is having some kind of error where it won't print the last panel on the strip. It's too late tonight, so I'll have to troubleshoot it tomorrow.

Turns out it's a bug in Inkscape itself. Since I couldn't do anything about it, I ended up just exporting the comic in pieces and stitching them together in GIMP.

Very good.

Something with the NF characters is that you make them the most feminine women in the comic, however in my experience they can be the least. In particular INFJ's are not very 'femme' (while being truly feminine). ESF are the most femme girls, the ones with flowers in their hair.

It's true; I'm no doubt perpetuating atrocious gender stereotypes. :p They did a study on people's perception of the appearance of various types, and feeling women were seen as more attractive than thinking women, while SP women were seen as "sexy." And I'd agree with you on the ESFs.
