Over the course of the summer I've dived pretty heavily into this genre of music, probably because there are suddenly an abundance of artists doing it so well. If anyone else digs this kind of stuff, I've got a few recommendations!

The first band is Neon Indian, their debut album releases in October. Of course, it has already leaked.

If you dig Neon Indian, you might want to look up Memory Cassettes, Weird Tapes, and the soon to be amalgamated 'Memory Tapes' (debut is in September). They're all the same guy, his voice is beyond intriguing, and his beats are great. I love his song 'Asleep At A Party' in particular, and he references sleep/being awake (consciousness) in many songs.

Lastly, I just discovered a new band of similar styling today under the moniker 'Small Black'. I've only heard their first single, Despicable Dogs, but it's quite lovely.

Seriously people, I could talk music ALL DAY.

strange how people differs in music taste. I listened 1 minute to the indian clip and there wasn't anything there that I found interesting. Maybe some of the psychedelic layers.
May I ask, what do you like about this music?

Hmmm, you know it's sometimes kind of hard for me to put a finger on what certain songs are actually doing for me. That Neon Indian song has been one of my most played tracks of the summer, I just love its rhythm and beat and some of the lyrics like "Seeing thoughts on repeat, but I'd rather get something to eat". I find it all very clever and original. That Memory Cassettes track is currently my favorite thing ever to fall asleep to. Not that I'll actually fall asleep while listening to it, but along with some of the other Memory Cassettes tracks I have they're great to listen to late at night. His voice is so interesting, bizarre, unique... Idk, I'm just kind of drawn to interesting musicians who bring something new to the table. There's nothing else like these guys, and the more music I listen to the more obscure/odd stuff I end up liking. I don't think I would have enjoyed this kind of music a few years ago, but right now it feels so right!

The rythm's are very straight forward.. so, nothing intricate there. But maybe you like the simplicity in it. Regarding lyrics, I have never really paid attention to lyrics. I don't know...I just think that music should speak for itself. Often, I find that words can only contribute to destroying what the music tells me on it's own. For me it's like looking at a painting with a man standing beside you telling you what the painting should convey to you...and the way he thinks you should interpret it. Interpretation is very individual and should be left to the individual. Maybe a bad analogy, but that's the way I feel about it.

Listened to Memory Cassette now. It is very atmospheric, so I can understand you enjoying listening to it at night. It isn't musicians that bring anything new to the table, though. Not that that matters too much.. afterall, revolutionary musicians is a rare thing.

Regarding obscure stuff... try listening to "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima" by Krzysztof Penderecki. I have to warn you though, it isn't exactly easy listening:) It is quite terrifying. Try listening to that when bed time comes *evil laugh*

this is great, I haven't heard very much new music lately and it makes a great break from the usual metal I listen to. Ever heard any 8-bit music? One of the best cover bands I have heard is The Kode Secret, formerly known as the Konami Kode. The easiest one to find tracks of is The Minibosses or Neskimos. I love that stuff. I have quite a bit of music from OCremix, its all free, there's at least 5 gigs worth on their site.

ahhh i'm Soooooo booooooreeeeeddddd. Hahaha, I actually kind of despise that wavves guy. When he had his mental breakdown in Barcelona I was laughing. I thought he got way overhyped for his actual talent, but yeah, some people seem to like him. What songs do you like oh his? I've only heard a few.

I Honestly don't how much about them. My friend recommended them to me. The songs you posted above were pretty good. I like repetitive music, it helps me think.

I'm on last.fm, pitchfork.com, and stereogum.com basically everyday. Between these three, I manage to keep relatively well-informed. Last.fm is my real obsession though, I basically live on that site.

Oh definitely. I know a lot of kids say they couldn't live without music, and i believe i really can't. If I can't listen to music for a week i start feeling depressed and my mind will conjure up songs that i can remember.

hmmm, that's some pretty cool stuff. I especially liked the Memory Cassette songs. I listened to a bunch on pitchfork and they weren't bad. "Last One Awake" got stuck in my head for a while. I've never heard of any of this kind of stuff before.

And yeah, last.fm is awesome. I've found alot of good music there. Then again, I've found alot of good music here too. You guys have good tastes.

Yeah I like that album (triple album really). I actually didn't get into The Magnetic Fields until this summer, though I'd heard of them for a while. I love the baritone singer, it's always refreshing to hear songs in a different octave.

I've been listening to it this entire summer, the songs are so catchy. They remind me of Jens Lekman and the Smiths. Besides them I've also been listening to the Antlers.

Ahh Antlers, yeah that Hospice album is seeing quite the success. I've listened through it once and read all of the lyrics (the lyrics are incredibly sad). I've been mostly playing Mew this summer, along with Passion Pit, Miike Snow, and Portugal. The Man. All of which have released great albums this summer. Mew's new album is a definite contender for my album of the year. I love those guys so much.

Yeah, i noticed that. I rarely listen to lyrics and I was surprised by them. For some reason they remind me of sigur ros. I have the newest passion pit cd too, i like seaweed song. The new mew album is coming out the 25th? I really don't have many albums from 09 that i really love, i usually don't notice the year they were released.

Yeah well it was actually released on itunes last week, but it leaked a month ago. I've listened to it religiously these last few weeks, and I'm convinced it's the best album to come out this year thus far. Granted, I'm already a huge Mew fan. My opinion is probably biased, but aren't all of ours? The name of the album is 'No More Stories Are Told Today I'm Sorry They Washed Away No More Stories The World Is Grey I'm Sorry Let's Wash Away'. Yeah, pretty bad ass.. and probably one of the weirdest album covers ever as well. Give it a go people! They're from Denmark! And great! (but not low-fi, sorry to be off topic)

I already had the album frengers but really never listened to much of it. Most of my favorite bands are Swedish, but I'll give Denmark a chance. Haha, i think we were off topic 3 posts ago.

YouTube - Memory Tapes - 'Bicycle'

Okay, if you digged Memory Cassette, you'll love this! This is the same guy, and it's his first single off of his upcoming debut LP, 'Seek Magic'. It's sick. Enjoy! :D

I consider Beach House folk, but you know, genres aren't an exact science. I usually have a severely tough time putting my favorite bands into specific genres. Here's another one!
