I took a personality test in school (senior in high school) and I got INTP. I'll be honest, I was pretty skeptical of these types of tests at first. When we were done and had our results, my teacher briefly went over each type. When she got to INTP, I was stunned because the way she described INTPs was extremely close to the way I view my own personality. I came home and looked up INTP on the internet today and read a few articles on the personality type - even more in shock.

I guess the reason for my reaction would have to be that I never really viewed other people as though anyone observes and experiences the world in the same way I do. It was truly surreal.

(I'm assuming this is the right place to ask these things?)

Did anyone else feel the same way when they were first "classified" as INTP?

I've just lived my life and always thought that my thought process was just different.

What jobs are good for INTPs?

I am in the process of choosing a major and am contemplating between engineering, theoretical physics (my dream), business, and video productions. Any recommendations?

Any literature I might benefit from reading?

I was just pretty surprised to read the full INTP description, as I felt it strongly applied to me.

Theoretical physics as your dream job? Ahhh! Get out of my head, fellow INTP! :)

And welcome to our castle's quiet halls. There's food, drink, and conversation aplenty, and we eagerly await a new voice in our choir of reason.

This meat is fresher than usual. May it be that the forum is getting higher on the INTP google-search?

Welcome.

MBTI is bullshit. Run away while you can. Spend time doing something meaningful. Or take a real personality test instead.

To a first order approximation nobody becomes a theoretical physicists (I know - I tried. Took the door prize of experimental physicist instead). I wouldn't recommend it unless you absolutely have to do it and have no other choice for a happy life.

My guess is the individual joined the forum earlier on in his quest than usual, not having read quite as much of the MBTI literature beforehand as his predecessors.

Yes, a thousand times yes. That's exactly what I meant.

It's interesting to hear the thoughts of an INTP that's haven't read everything about the type yet. Maybe we can learn something about the box of MBTI that we're currently inside of by studying the behaviours of someone that's not yet as well read.

It could also be your erection. :)

Maybe. My erection has been rising on the INTP picture search for months now. I should never have auditioned for that shady producer...

I couldn't help but notice that, none the less, you claim to be an ENFP on your profile.

I also couldn't help but notice that your rather vocal crusade against MBTI on an MBTI forum is almost stereotypically ENFP.

What personality tests are real, in your opinion?
