INTPs and freedom to speak the truth

How much do you value the freedom and even the right to speak the truth, no matter how unpopular or controversial it may be? If, for example, you stated a fact on this site that was unpopular and, as a result, you were banned, what would you think? How would you react? What, do you think, are the limits of speech? Do you have the right to risk offending others in the name of truth? And do you yourself value this right so highly that you would risk being banned to speak it?

I think being banned from an online forum is among the most benign consequences one could incur for speaking their mind. Even lesser than incurring the dislike of people in meat space.

I would be more concerned about the prospect of being stalked, harassed, losing my job and other similar prospects or being murdered.

Firstly, this is a question about freedom of speech. I think someone has it covered with "I don't agree with what you say, but I would die for your right to say it". The other side of that coin is that there has to be someone to hear it, otherwise it's rather pointless.

Secondly, most "truths" are beliefs/opinions. How bad or well it is received depends on how it is presented. If one shows her/his reasoning instead of just stating "It's just X (take my word for it)" then I am more likely to humour it, because then I don't need to hunt the angle the presenter is coming from.

If I were banned from a forum: either what I said and/or how I said it went against the rules or someone with administrative powers abused them.

How would I react: probably over 70-80% of my posts are never submitted. I mostly just lurk. I suppose I would feel slightly inconvenienced for an hour or two. Or not.

Limits of speech: whichever is the lower between eloquence of sender and comprehension of receiver.

You can't offend people without their consent. Surely, don't do it needlessly, because that's evil. As for getting banned for it- depends on how much I value full access to the forum.

(probably INFP) I don't usually value speaking the truth more than other aspects of life, like maintaining my few and superficial and rather meaningless facebook friendships, or close relationships, but sometimes i do speak up and people do abandon me.

It's a constant struggle for me and i'm not sure if my tendency to hide my positions is more of an enneagram nine or six thing, but it runs so deep, that I have no social assertiveness and no life. I have the most independent and provokative views and the least provokative and independent style of real-life interaction. I maintain a sense of harmony based on what we have in common, such as being human and everything else can fall under the table. Even if my clothing style shows a strong attitude, i play it down in interaction.

my theory is that this might be the easiest way to tell the difference between enneagram five (who will insist on independence will) and nine or six, but i might be wrong and i'm not even sure if intp are ever five (or if 5 is a NiTe (5) -> TeNi (8) thing), so that is what is interesting about this thread to me.

It's a shame that you aren't more assertive. I try to push ideas for the passive tendencies of people like yourself. It's a good thing because it forces me to learn and have a better understanding of the other personality types.

I'm sure you have some nuggets of wisdom that would enlighten us all if you had more confidence. I really enjoy reading your contributions to the forum.

I do realise go a little bit over the top with this particular thing, but some people only respond to this degree of response, and it justs angers me and upsets me so goddamn much.

I'll confess as well, if I see a Troll bullying/attacking someone clearly weaker/inability to defend, I will destroy the troll in a second.


Sure, could of dealt with it other ways, not proud of how I reacted/dealt with,
but i'm not sorry I did. I was willing to accept the bans from WoW/SWTOR for saying it in general, because everyone would of seen it and the offender would of been banned as well.

A ban doesn't mean any thing to me. Nothing really does after an entire childhood of punishments in which I didn't do jack. (and then my teens which won't go into)

So yeah, I do speak my mind/stand up for beliefs/values/wrong doings/seeing bullying/ me trolling the hell out of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West for the example they are setting to kids, and other celebrities.
(and the disgusting scumbags they are).

I cannot STAND lies!! Even stretched as far as "strongly disagreeing" with make up. I back that up with valid but out there psychological reasons of why make up is bad and only causes problems, lol.

Me being Enneagram Type 8(w7). Anger Triad. Protector. Challenger, Leader (that one tears me apart being INTP :/ Want to nudge people in the right direction, teach independence/stand up for selves, but terrified of being accused of manipulating or making a mistake when I would be responsible for someone. My childhood has affected me for life. It sucks. I'll figure something out though.).

In the mean time i'll just speak the truth!!

Since nobody is qualified to choose what truth is for everyone else, we need freedom of speech to facilitate freedom of truth. It's a necessary evil.

The unintended consequence of this is that people get to proliferate their terrible beliefs all day, spreading misinformation or worse: disinformation.
