INTPFORUM down since 25th november

Today I was told the above news. Having contacted the hosts, they said:

"...the forum was placing an excessively high load on the server and causing slowness for other sites on the server. We have a solution and would like permission to move it to a new server that we're just bringing online."


In the meantime, it has been reanimated; but shall be moved on Tuesday coming, so don't make a lot of big plans here that day.

I can't help but notice that some threads have many thousands of views, threads that were only a few replies and didn't have much to talk about. Was somebody (or a group) enforcing a denial of service type of hacking, do you think?

It's possible, or maybe INTPf just has a lot of lurkers.

I think the problem is a vast amount of traffic generate from people viewing just single pages from google.
I've noticed that many other forums just show a text-only archive view from linked to from a search engine, and a link has to be followed to get to the actual forum. This system implemented here should solve the problems. At the very least the forum should be modified so that images hosted on the server such as avatars are only visible after logging in.

Nice to see we're back up and running. It's too bad we have as much down time as we do. I'm thankful to those who keep us going though.

Speaking of which, is there a means by which users can donate funds to anyone or anything to keep this up?

Yeah, I *almost* made an "INTPforum survivors" thread on INTPcentral. But that felt wrong. And it felt wrong to remind INTPcentral that we exist because, as aforementioned, INTPc sucks.
