Hello community!

My name is Elías and I'm apparently an INTP. I'm writing this while considerably intoxicated, which is the only situation I'd have the courage to actually post on the forums. I sincerely hope somebody relates with me.

Well, I have a friend who's a serious fan of the MBTI system, which led me to it. He's an INTJ. I've read there's a considerable amount of evidence that put those two together which has led me to put some belief in this system.

Anyway I wanted to see if anyone related to my current topic. See, I'm a pretty stoic guy, I'm no robot but I don't exactly express myself as much as my more extroverted counterparts. I'm able to behave in social situations but I'm pretty much known as something of a wildcard I suppose.

But when it comes to movies/TV shows. I swear, when I see a good movie or something along those lines my emotions go crazy. For example, I can't watch V for Vendetta without shedding a considerable amount of tears. The same goes for numerous TV shows I don't care to list.

I just wanted to know if there were any other of you INTP folk who aren't very emotional in the real life scenario but can completely dig into an emotional fictitious plot.

I know how most forums work, by searching for related topics and whatnot, but I really can't be bothered so I'm hoping that my post isn't too generic for your tastes.

Hope you can relate in some way and perhaps provide some insight!

Regards,
Elías from Iceland.

Depends on the story. How much do I care about the characters? What specific event is it that's supposed to make me emotional? Etc.

Well I suppose in my case it's things that are rather revolutionary. That type of movie you expect from something like V for Vendetta or Fight Club. I've also found myself very emotional through just stories of great humanity where people to remarkably good (while rather unrealistic) good deeds.

I certainly can't speak for the rest of us, though.

An INTJ and INTP might get along paradoxically because they do not share any functions in their top four functional stack; obviously they have the same first three letters, which makes them introverted intellectuals and compadres in some respects. An INTJ has Ni-Te-Fi-Se while an INTP has the opposite functions up top. The interaction might be interesting/explosive as it resembles the exoticness of talking to an alien who happens to be an intellectual peer - the combo shouldn't work but it does. This might be the same growth idea behind the ENFP and INFJ getting on so well.

List the television shows! :nazi:

Hah well I can't back the relationship we have by any form of evidence but we're basically platonic soulmates, two people who enjoy the same things in different forms. Talking to him is as close as it gets to talking to myself, which is pretty hard to reach aside from the obvious of just talking to myself.

TV Shows?

I watch far too many to really list the ones that I've felt considerable amount of emotion for, but by far the one that I know I've felt the most for is one called "Six Feet Under", wonderful series with a wonderful final soundtrack. Perhaps I should add music as an expression of emotion because that led an important part in making me fell all choked up and emotional.

I'm very sorry, I'd think of more but I'm sort of... well, lazy as fuck.

You're from ísland! Ég have been trying to learn for a while now. Ég am also intoxicated so this will probably go bad. (as you can tell I almost know no words[and the words I know are mostly related to sleeping for some reason])

But seriously welcome and all.

Oh and yeah and fiction seems more real in a way :P

I appreciate the attempt, The Gopher! To be fair my Íslensku is not all that fluent really. I grew up in the US despite my Icelandic heritage. Really brings a lot of conflict with the elitist here who are pissed by my Icelandic name and lack of Icelandic fluency. Sleep is a wonderful subject, just look at my username! I can see already you're a person I'd enjoy talking to. :D

Thanks for your welcome!

And apparently considerably intoxicated. At any rate, this link might prove edifying, especially the bit on music near the end.

Thank you for the lovely profile! I've read plenty before but this one was very indepth. I especially enjoy the portion of the sensing where it spoke about music in the minor key, which interestingly enough is something I favor. In fact in the band I play with we pretty much play completely in the minor key. After reading this, it's starting to make a lot of sense. :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not THAT intoxicated (just clearing that up after your choice to italicize that portion) I'm just as lazy sober as I am drunk!

SPOILERS: Every time I watch Star Wars episode 3, I secretly hope that Anakin wont be turned, or that Windu will finish off Palpatine. It never happens, so I just sit there panicking each time, knowing the inevitable end.

And this is just logical. Movies are concepts or big theories with plots and consequences, like grand patterns or complex formulas from the way I view them. Of course I get emotionally vested in them.

It does happen to me sometimes but quite rarely. The last time it happened was when I watched Toy Story 3 with my nieces, it just sort of happened suddenly in the end

I never told anyone.

Oh and I have a great INTJ friend too, like a brother to me.
