I've had quite a few of these advertising different products. I have to admit the ads for virtual reality goggles were pretty hilarious and I thought it was a troll. I Don't consider it illegal to post private message from a bot, can it be stopped ?

The first bot is banned, but i can't quite make out the name of the other. Are they banned too?

I have an idea for this which I'll bring up to the admins. My suggestion would be to have users with 0 posts be prohibited from making PM's. What that does is force bots to make forum posts first, at which point the filter catches them. I don't think the filter works on PMs (for privacy reasons), which is why 0 post bots can troll people via PMs.

The forum software is pretty ancient, and updating has always been a challenge, so I hope this capability's there already..

I realize that modern vBulletin costs money. But phpBB and SMF are decent and they're free. Any chance we could build a new forum and migrate the address when it's ready?

I'm afraid we're going to wake up one day to a broken site. This version has got to be 7+ years out of support...

Yeah the secret backup forum is not really a secret, at this point.

Also, I personally like the spam pms. They make me feel loved.

That little boost of "Oh! A pm? Someone cares!" definitely outweighs the "Oh, it's just a bot" disappointment.
