If you click View Conversation, it's even easier... you get a page of your dialog with that person and can just type in the pretty box.

This is the correct way to reply to visitor messages. For some reason some people do it wrong. If you post on your wall the person should get no notification of having received a message. Really, I see no logic in replying on your own wall. Would you pm someone back by sending it to yourself or them?
