The key to getting to an INTP's emotional core is making it a safe thing for them to do... (Especially for the Male INTP but also true for our INTP Sisters.) Dealing with emotion not something we are comfortable with because of the energy that is there. Dealing with emotion is something that represents pain to us and generally in proportion to the level of energy present. Of the few times where the inner me has been allowed "out of the box" it has not been well received by those around me... the result is that the "box" just gets harder to open each time.

Last time, I relaxed I was ambushed and nearly kicked to death. So you ask why I am reticent.

Sometimes, just sometimes, you post a gem Perseus.

I'm sure this has been linked to before, but it can't hurt to refresh the topic.

I'm not sure I agree with the author assuming that female INTPs automatically have an easier time dealing with emotional pain, or opening up to people.

If something's impossible then it simply is....

Hmmph..... if I let myself feel the degree of hurt I've sustained throughout my life I'm sure I'd cease to exist. I have found there is no safe place in the world of humans and, for now, no place I can reach for sufficient time that is free of humans.

The only thing I trust with my feelings is the Earth itself, some days I don't think I'll live long enough to experience the time I need alone with it.

I have never dealt successfully with emotions. I have emotions stored for over 40 years in that box I have yet to deal with I am hoping to die before i am forced to start sorting through my emotions. Sometimes procrastination actually works?

I may mistaken but it does seem that everyone knows about the "BOX" how can that be ...?

I agree. At least where I come from. If people were expecting me to talk about my emotions, I would definitely not. The more people pressure me, the less likely I will do that they're pressuring me about.

I don't really know how I deal with emotions. I rarely have strong emotions. But I have always regretted the emotional outburst I've had. I would probably withdraw and think about it.

But the "BOX" is not closed, we are just too stubborn some times to jump out from it.

Don't Screw with my Head

5.) Emotional. Be nice and do not screw with their heads. They can be sensitive. If you want something, ask for it. If you do not get all emotional and are willing to take no for an answer, they will usually try to accommodate any reasonable request. *hint* Socializing with large (or sometimes even small) groups of people for extended periods of time is not a reasonable request. This is normal behavior, not something you need to fix. It is not personal. If you like to socialize a lot, you have two choices: be willing to leave him at home with some cold pizza and his computer or find a different guy.

Those damn Wolves (ENTJ) and Hawks (INTJ) screwing up people's lives. What they try to do is put an idea in your head of theirs when you are meant to think you thought it up yourself. The trouble is the idea is as stupid as they are! They even use hypnotism to assist their malign practices.

I guess every type has some of the characteristics they can't or are unwilling to do... so are we all boxed?

Or are we all just jacks-in-the-boxes?

Most people are lower castes, seven of diamonds, eight of clubs rather than the Jack of Hearts.

This is your standard playground psychology. A Cave Man retreats to his box.

Dragons (INFP) live in a Barrow/Cave and only rarely go on flights/crusades.

The Box is just a place to store emotions, and the memories or thoughts attached to them!

There's no room for us in there. It's already so full the hinges and lock are straining.....

no , we have far more interesting places to hide than inside boxes...

Introversion is rising above (flying) unfortunate circumstances (which usually mean other people). The Earthlings let things fly over the top of them.

I like socialising, but there are certain people I would rather not meet, mainly Horseman (ESFJ) and their variants, the Irrationals can dance, I will go the heady room, cause dancing is a waste of energy (most of the time).

Well as far as anger, I believe we are. there was a post that said that INTPs can be pushed to a point "But Woe to the One that Pushes just a bit too far, and incurs the "WRATH OF AN INTPIAN"

I don't think we are trapped in boxes. Boxes are relatively easy to break out of, as can be seen with the "jack in the box" analogy. What I see is a transparent glass inner tube that is tinted on the outside. We can see out of the inner tube, but no one can see in. Therefore, people are even more confounded by our emotional outbursts because they assue that since they can't see in the inner tube, we can't see either. This explains why people can't even see the source or reason for my outbursts.

Also, any effort to break out of the inner tube would be futile. If I were to push against the inside of an inner tube, it would only make me slide around inside rather than breaking out like a jack in the box. The inner tube also represents the constant cycles of emotion. Rather than starting and ending, my emotions keep going around in circles because they keep getting fueled, and I can't seem to find a solution to end these cycles. Once these cycles are spinning around faster and faster in an attempt to get out, they eventually make the tube explode, making for a more violent outbreak than a jack in the box.

Additionally, the function of a jack in the box is apparent. Crank it, and you will hear music until the jack pops out of the box. Then you put it back inside and crank again. With this heavy glass inner tube, the function is not nearly as apparent. It's too fragile to play with, you can't float on it in water. It's just there. Likewise, we often don't know what to do with our emotions most of the time.

Maybe we grow inside of a box and it expands to accommodate for our new size. The box is rubber and we are sponge, increasing in size as we absorb the water of life.

With emotions I feel like I'm wearing a suit of armour, both to keep the emotion in and to keep other people out. This armour is a very effective defence but is it's own curse as well, I am trapped within it and as the plates thicken it's weight increases.

Like some sort of Sci-fi reactor I keep great intensity inside me, but I stay shut for the protection of others. But I'm learning how to direct this intensity for my own purposes, perhaps this internal reactor could serve my will, if I can control it.

The shield or the house that is your mind. Puff the Magic Dragon (INFP) tries to blow it down with fire. So the shield has to be strong.

Guards! Guards!

But worse is the (ISFP) cat that gets under your skin, or any of the Rodents (ISFJ - ISXJ) that give me the creeps. SF are the Crazies or Absurdists. The thinking component of all these types is selfish conniving for their own interests.

An INFP tries to influence emotions without understanding, and thus are irritating.

An ISFP treats emotion as a substitute for logic, or can't tell the difference.
Thus their personas are like antimatter to those of an INTP.

"J" types are just written off as idiots

(please correct me if I'm wrong)

I imagine INFPs are actually capable of terrific insight with which to synthesise understanding.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the capacity and motivation to influence emotions is their native language. Maybe an INTP would find that irritating if they didn't want their emotions examined, questioned, confronted... but sometimes it feels good to let someone else play 'doctor' in that way.

Giving up intellectual control of a situation can have interesting rewards.

When it comes to "hurt to the core", INFPs have more in common with INTPs than not.

Sometimes, INTPs are so far up they cannot hear what the ordinary people are saying. ENTPs cannot hear what other people are saying, full stop.
