How would others type you?

There's always the possibility for error when typing others.

So, masters of the personality camouflage...ery, do you sometimes act in non-INTP ways? How would anyone at a given moment type you if they saw you on the street, talking with a friend, a stranger, etc.

Or do you never lapse, god forbid, in your INTPness?

I act extremely extroverted if I'm in the right mood, or around the right people. It's possible someone who had only ever encountered me while in that state could type me ENTP.
Actually, my only function that is really evident is my P.
So given the right circumstances I could be mistyped as, say, ESFP.

Depends. I usually try to be more straightforward and extroverted when talking with people, but that state doesn't last very long. And I can be my usual cold and distant self, not giving a damn whether someone would like to talk to me or not.

Either ENTJ or INTP, I guess.

In real life, I would say it's all over the board.

People who have known me for a while would probably peg me as IN(T/F)(J/P) depending on what they thought the T or F stood for (my parents have pegged me as the emotional child :(:beatyou::) and I often say stuff like "this doesn't feel right"), and whether they centered more on my "laid-back" attitude or more on my "task-oriented" attitude. If there's a task, let's get it done, otherwise I'm pretty much not involved.

People who know me very little would probably type me as (I/E)NTP, since I am usually seen sputtering out ideas in academic environments or pondering over ideas. The only people that would peg me as an E or S would also probably assume that I am a frustrated and lonely individual, as I don't "get out" much, or they are unaware of my social life (which is pretty easy to hide when it's nearly non-existent).

Lost in my thoughts
I've asked a few people who are familiar with the MBTI what they thought my type was, and it's been INTJ all three times. It's strange - out of all of the dichotomies, the J/P axis is probably one where, if people knew me, they'd probably get right. I guess most people don't know me that well/go off what they hear of me...I don't know if that's a good thing or not .

i could see myself being typed as an FJ... only people who really dont know me would say that though. i think. i hope.

IN is pretty obvious though.

So it seems that N is the only thing that's really prominant in the way others see you.

It's quite strange because, for example, I can become two completely different people depending on what the situation calls for. When someone's in charge, I sit back and become flexible about whatever's asked of me. When nobody assumes responsibility, I step up and become a rigid leader. So, depending on how you catch me, I could typed all over the place.

Exactly.

^ Quite a few INTJs describe their type like that.

I suppose some people I enjoy talking to, but I'm not completely open with, could consider me to be an ENTP, if they knew MBTI. Those I don't like would probably type me as an INTJ. People who know me really well would see an INTP, I think.

im usually seen as more extroverted, and most of the time i am, or at least fake it well enough to get along with other people. when i get focused on something, though, it all goes out the window, and i often scare my friends, even my own family with how closed i am

NF is often confused as the creative axis and my randomness is confused for creativity (I throw shit together and people think I'm creative. I just like things a little different...[almond butter > peanut butter]). So unless they actually clearly understood the traits they'd probably guess INFP.

Given the company and how much sleep I've had I can be quite extroverted, and have actually been labelled as such by several people. it can be quite draining, though, and I'll go through bouts where for several weeks I'll be extremely social, and then turn into a recluse for about a month.

With the right people and the right mood, and I totally come off as ENTP. In fact, I actually was once mistyped by another person as ENTP. If I am fired up in a debate of some kind then I can be as intense as a fired up INFJ.

(Which is pretty fucked intense, if you have never seen it.)

Anyone who would think I was an S, is either a former coworker of my last job, or an idiot.

On second thought, scratch that, even the SJs at my last job should have figured out I'm not like them, despite how much Si I tried to blend in with.

ISTJ, maybe INTJ. Some may see me as ISFJ. I'm very secretive and keep to myself, I'm probably not very easy to type. I'm not completely certain myself I'm INTP. If someone said otherwise, I would be open to the idea. I fairly certain, but not completely.

I never act extroverted.
