How often do you abandon internet forums?

I just left a forum where I "contributed" several thousand posts to, out of boredom, I suppose, or maybe I didn't see any opportunities for proper discussion. Most likely, both were persuaders to my leaving the forum. Of course, I had to fill the gap with other forums, such as this one.

So, here comes the awkward question: how often do you abandon internet forums?

I've owned a couple different cars, and was an active member in those cars respected forums, one I've sold the car, there went my time spent in the active forum.

For me, the way I see it is, if it doesn't provide anything I need, why be there?

There's no reason also to create a big going away post or anything, simple just stop visiting the website and continue your life as you see fit. I'm trying to scale down my internet life to pursue more time outside of this digital box.

I find communities with limited access, invite only areas with a smaller population, to be more at home for me, as @Auburn said in your other post, quality over quantity, any day of the week. I much rather have something with proper content or intriguing thoughts vs. a whole bunch of bland bs.

I've probably posted on 10-15 different ones over the years.

Typically now I'm really only a poster on three, and my posting is in decline on one.

Basically, once the people I like talking to and/or the topical matter gets old, then I just drift over time and disappear. I think that's what happens with many, they just slowly migrate towards what best suits their needs and interests.

This is only my second forum and I like the concept enough. I do get board sometimes so I should probably do more than just the one forum. I did leave my last forum because I felt they where close minded to my perspective in general. While not everyone here agrees with me there a much better mix of perspectives here. I am wondering if I should look at any other forums. I am open to other ideas. However, I think I will keep this one as my only MBTI type forum because otherwise I will get confused were I am at and who I am talking to.

I'll probably abandon the Chrysler minivan forum if and when I ever sell my van, but for right now, it's extremely helpful to have a place to go to and say "The fucking piece of shit broke again! Somebody please tell me what the fuck I have to go out and buy now, and how I'm supposed to take the old one off and put the new one on! GOD DAMNIT!"

Well, actually, I don't say it like that. If I did, all the ***s injected by the auto-censoring feature of that forum would make my message quite unintelligible, but the intonation is always there. But that site works differently than this one. In exchange for obtaining useful information and helpful advice on how to keep my junk heap running, I'm expected to reciprocate by helping others keep their junk heaps running to the best of my ability. It's not an obligatory requirement or anything, but if you get lax on the info upstream, people will call you out in a friendly reminder-ish way. "Gotta replace that upstream 02 sensor #1 eh newbie? @Solitaire, since he just did it a month ago, we're SURE he'll be willing to walk you through it." Heh, fuckers.

Since this board isn't objective based, I have the luxury of being totally irresponsible. But even if I wake up tomorrow and find that I'm now an ESFJ, I probably won't bail this forum. I can't say I obtain much useful information here in comparison to other, goal oriented sites I frequent (with the exception of "What are you listening to redux", of course), but I'm somewhat addicted to watching all of you evolve (or devolve, or simply revolve), especially Duxwing. Hence, I can't envision myself abandoning this site in the foreseeable future.

Changing my views according to reason and evidence is how I came to this position in the first place. My belief system essentially did a 180 degrees turn. I think the resultant epiphany occurred 6 years ago.

My difficulty is only an — enormous — difficulty of expression.

It's perhaps an issue with Ni-dom folk. I would just put the most substantial things out there and rebuff or disabuse the idiots as far and reasonably as possible.

This is the only forum I have ever contributed to. Otherwise I just pop around forums to ask technical questions and sometimes rant a little bit.

This is the only place where I have been personally involved completely and actually post on a regular basis.

I think I more or less abandoned the whole idea of forum life more than just a forum. This is the only place where I stuck around for longer, but eventually even here got a bit... boring.
I kinda miss participating in a forum, so I still come and check it out every couple of days hoping I'll feel the need to participate, but rarely do. I also tried a few other forums, but they kept my attention for about 2 days each

I think INTJforum was perhaps the first forum I joined. It wasn't always draconian with rules. I lurked ENTP.org long enough to decide I probably wasn't one. Tried INTPcentral, then several failed attempts at INTP breakaway forums that may or may not have involved Shai Gar, ran like hell from the type fairy's dolphin plastered walls, found this almost unpopulated haven of darkness - tried to reconcile myself with INFJ forum culture, was led by curiosity to see what ENFPs post about and... of them all, this is the only place I return.

Oh - there was that luvoxy place once or twice. Nice decor.

I also recall from my psychology class the vague notion that cognitive scientists are beginning to see that emotion plays a role in rational thought. They seem at odds, but maybe emotions are just directional things, and the left side of the brain has to do gymnastics to support and justify them. It sort of reminds me of experiments done that separate the halves of the brain via the corpus callosum.

There's some support for Fe as rational function - well, Fe is called a Jungian rational function - in Dario Nardi's research.

Fe is a judging, rational function according to Jung. In some sense, however, Jung and the OED differ on the meaning of rational.

I term the two preceding types [Te and Fe] rational or judging types because they are characterized by the supremacy of the reasoning and the judging functions. It is a general distinguishing mark of both types that their life is, to a large extent, subordinated to reasoning judgment.

But yeah, what you're talking about might even allude to hindsight bias or cognitive dissonance.

Hindsight bias sort of rings a bell, but doesn't fully (though that seems redundant, I added this for clarity) encompass what I was trying to get at. It's a fine, limited example, though.

As far as Fe being considered a Jungian rational function, well, in a specific context it functions rationally, so it fits, I suppose.

Before this forum I have been an active participant on only one other (a gaming forum). The complete lack of sense and intolerance for divergent thought was palpable. I discontinued my subscription as soon as I found INTPf, and although I have tried my hand at some other forums in an attempt to round my understanding of different types, I have never felt the inclination to be more than a casual observer on these. I'm thinking of joining an ENTP forum as I suspect I may be an ENTP, but I doubt it will be as homely as here.

About once every three years, I guess? That's counting the ones I got booted from, though. If those don't count, then... um... I haven't left this one, yet... one every ten years? Though, one of the two I was kicked from, it was because one of the mods was actually just a bizzle and I left before even realizing I was kicked, and then I was apologized to and invited back, but I didn't want to post there while that mod was still a mod, so I'm not sure if I should count that.

Are we counting the ones we never posted much on in the first place, abandoning before 100 posts? If so, probably once a yearish.

Im also fascinated by how people find it funny to repeat the same albeit slowly evolving memetics of the forum they hang on day after day. It's like some strange but very uninteresting ritual to keep the wheel spinning.
