During winter, the weather conditions are more likely not ideal for activities in which socialising may take place, giving us introverts more time away from people. Also, Im guessing most of you, like myself, are night people, as it is quieter and allows for deep thinking, and winter provides us with more night time, and Lastly for now, I heard somewhere that in a cooler environment, the brain power increases - which winter gives us.

What do you guys reckon?

Are you saying INTP's are trolls?

The common troll is nocturnal. Their natural tendency to spend daylight hours dormant led to the stories of them turning to stone when hit by the sun. Though apparently unintelligent, this is due to heat negatively affecting the conductivity of their silicon brains, which operate in a similar fashion to computer circuits (in essence a trollish form of hyperthermia). In the coldness of the high mountain areas that they usually call home, they can, in certain respects, be quite clever. When sufficiently deep-frozen, they can perform exceptional mathematical feats, possibly involving quantum computing.

The description seems to be quite fitting.

In a cooler environment...

Are you sure you aren't confusing brains with computers? We have to maintain our bodies at a certain temperature, so I doubt winter gives more brain power.

Secondly, all I need is quiet time. I'm more of a mid-afternoon person though.

I actually pseudo-hibernate during the winter. The meager supplies of energy I can divert from the act of keeping myself warm are channeled towards scavenging for scraps of food and blanket.

So no, I don't have a higher level of brainpower.

This (and AlisaD's spoiler) reminds me of Detritus from one of Pratchett's Discworld books. There's this great scene where he starts writing equations...

*edit
OP: I do think better in cool weather. Hot weather really ruins me physically, emotionally and mentally. I'm not sure about freezing weather though. I suspect that's probably the same as hot, just less uncomfortable. I think there's a point at which the benefits of cold weather start to drop, till they're about equal to hot, and good solid winters would be on the lousy side of that point.

The brain generates a surprising amount of heat for its size, and y'know how they say people only use about 10% of their brains, well we only use 10% at once, because if all our neurons started firing together, the heat generated would kill us, and there's also the issue of metabolic efficiency, the brain uses a surprising amount of metabolised energy for its size.

So in theory a cooler brain with access to a large amount of metabolised energy could work more effectively, but it’s nothing to get excited about, the effect would be miniscule and you can only cool the body so much before it starts shutting down.

I beleive there is also an episode in Law and Order where this guy forces his daughter to study in a cellar which is kept at a slightly cooler temperature because the brain functions better at a cooler temperature.

Also, i have been told that we yawn to reduce the temperature of the brain, in order to concentrate or think better - and it makes sense to me because when i am at work doing physically demanding-ish jobs for a couple of hours, which increases the body's temperature, and then i suddenly go to the computer to do some mentally demanding tasks i find that i yawn quite alot

and therefore... i think that on average, INTP's may do a bit more deep thinking during the winter then summer.
