Having spent nearly a decade attempting to find someone with the 'same frequency' as me in real life... i have given up.. and shall now seek like minded individuals in the cyberspace!

Little info about me.. 23 year old male university student in Singapore(i browsed this section a little bit and most of which i came across arent from the continent of asia..)
Agnostic Theism is my religion, if it qualifies as one.
INTP as diagnosed by an online questionnaire, couple years back i was an INTJ though.
Only recently i came to a rude awakening of how socially dysfunctional i was

On the lighter side, i enjoy reading on the philosophy of mind, civilizations, and probably just about anything that catches my attention( was reading up on saudi arabia, kingdom tower, marlin, tofu etc.. earlier today)

Glad to find this forum.. atleast i wont be considered weird here :D

You're normal ... for this place. Have a look around. Ask any question. Someone will answer. This is your lucky day.

i have no questions to ask.. dont really have much ongoing in my head now..not much things spark my interest in thinking nowadays =/ though i sometimes still like to think a little on the issue of creating a society that i deem ideal. first things that come to my mind is population culling and education reform. always gets stuck on how to resolve governance issues though, then again i dont really spend much effort on trying to go indepth.. lazy

Does it take much money to study in Singapore?

For a local, tuition fee for one semester can range from around 4k SGD - 6k SGD i think.. exchange rate is like 1SGD to 0.81USD.. go figure it yourself lol

For an international student though, you can almost just take a free ride and escape.. its pretty well known that international students take the government bond, finish their studies and simply escape overseas without fulfilling the bond

i dont really have what i would say a sufficiently comprehensive view on that, but i'll just list out a few points.

Singapore has the highest gini coefficient in the world.
Massive wage suppression of middle-low income jobs due to MASSIVE immigrant influx by government policies
Locals(especially males due to national service requirements) are blatantly disadvantaged in the employment scene
Singapore has a vibrant economy that is artificially boosted by imported cheap labour
No wage ceiling, no trade union, nothing even near there.
A strong financial hub in southeast asia, singapore has one of the world's most busy port along with a very strong petrochemical industry.
The economy has and still is shifting out of the hard sciences and engineering towards the creative/financial industry.
Singapore has a first world GDP per capita along with a purchasing power below moscow(according to a study done by UBS)

Since you mentioned employment without mentioning with regards to international or local singaporean, i just hammered all 'facts'.
Personally, i think, locals are screwed very badly by government policies.
However, regardless of nationality, so long as u make it pass the middle-income jobs, you can easily live a comfortable life here, else you are pretty much stuck in a pressure pot. Sorry if i cant give you anything more detailed than these general stuffs

After my Phd I want to work in the field of quantitative analysis. I was thinking of moving to either Singapore or Hong Kong. With that said, there're many well paying quantitative analysis work in Australia.

Good luck..:) seems like you're inclined to moving into ultra high population density economies with skyhigh housing prices.
Well singapore has good food and low crime rate, although if you're interested in the current situation of singapore, you might wan to read up on the recently released White Paper by the government which projects to increase our population from the current 5.5m to 6.9m through immigration import.
Another thing i would highlight is the very low Total Fertility Rate in Singapore, this society isnt very conducive for startng a family(i think).
Then again, like i said, if u can get pass the middle income bracket, life in singapore would actually be enjoyable

For example, some China students take up the government bonded scholarship which provides their tuition fee, lodging etc, and in turn they are expected to work for the singapore government for a couple of years.

When they graduate, they simply pack up and leave for other countries (such as USA). There are no legal repurcussions for this, so long as these people do not enter Singapore again.

Personal : The Singapore government is so obsessed with 'foreign talents' it even sends people into the rural areas of countries such as China and Indonesia to recruit all these scholars, a significant portion of which can barely speak English at all.. So yeah.. i would say these scholarships are easy to get, so long as you are not Singaporean.
