Hey guys...I know I'm butting in pretty late in the conversation, but after reading this thread over the course of three days at work, I'm finally ready to ask some questions, as I have no experience with psychadelics. The only drugs I have experience with are caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and marijuana. I am definitely interested in trying some of the hallucinogens, two things hold me back: fear and lack of access.
As for the fear part, there are a couple of very rational reasons. First, I am looking for a job, and I'm not sure which ones stay in your system long enough to be detected as well as which ones are actually tested for by employers.
FIRST off...pre employment drug screens...to me, they arent testing for drug habits, irresponsibility, effectiveness at work, competence, etc....its a test for STUPIDITY.
Be smart, if you are looking for a job, ABSTAIN. If you cant abstain, find a way around it ala synthetic urine
...however keep in mind, depending on the type of drug test, certain drugs can be detected much longer than a simple urine screen. Depending on the method (hair analysis, blood test, urine screen) drugs have certain detection periods, you also have to take into account your own body and chemical makeup...to sum it up detection periods DO vary.
heres a nice little breakdown of some common drugs, and approxiamate detection periods:

Psilocybin, I dont believe simple drug screens even test for it, but I believe urine is around 1-3 days...again you are going to want to make sure what you are being tested for! i cant stress that enough...responsibility is to take the time and ENSURE you dont let these things affect your careers or personal lives with an avoidable positive on a drug screen.
The more important concern is that I have epilepsy and am on two different anticonvulsants. Does anyone know if the psychadelics/hallucinogens can trigger seizures? If not, would they interfere with the anticonvulsant medications that I'm on? My seizures can be quite terrifying, and I certainly don't want a trip to resemble a seizure in any way, or worse, actually cause one.
I am NOT aware of this......but most definitely good to see that you want to be AWARE of interactions between existing conditions of prescriptions you currently take. If you dont mind sharing the type of anticonvulsants, I could do a little research here if I get the time.
The second thing that prevents me from trying any of these (or any illegal drugs, for that matter) is lack of access. Legal drugs like alcohol, caffiene, and nicotine are easy to get access, so I just buy them at the gas station or whatever. The illegal ones, including weed, are almost impossible to find, esepcially being an extremely introverted INTP. I know that in order to find a drug dealer, you just have to "know people." I only have one friend who does any illegal drugs (weed, to be more specific, and he doesn't even smoke it that much). I've asked him a couple of times to let me know if he has any weed, but he hardly ever does, and I don't think his dealer sells anything but weed. It's hard enough for me to find weed. I wouldn't even know where to begin to find psychadelics. But maybe that's best if it would be dangerous for my epilepsy...
There are ways. I would say that you SHOULDNT simply just get whatever you can from some dealer or a loose connection. It helps to find friends and people you can trust. Afterall you REALLY want to BE 100% sure that you are getting what you asked for (it helps with feeling safe and calm as well). Some other methods exist, especially in the age of technology...but for the sake of keeping us out of trouble, ill just ask you to PM me for those details.
Also, another thing I was curious about is the difference between "psychadelics" and "hallucinogens." Are those two different words for the same thing?
different communities (anti drug vs drug vs science) use the terms sort of interchangeably...
the scientific view is that all 'psychedelics' are technically 'hallucinogens', thus psychedelics are a class of hallucinogens ...the term doesnt necessarily imply that you are actually hallucinating, its more along the lines of drugs that are distorting your perceived reality. It to me sounds like just an outdated or misunderstanding of the nature of 'hallucinating'.
psychedelic derived from the Greek words ψυχή (psyche, "mind") and δηλείν (delein, "to manifest"), hence "mind-manifesting", the implication being that psychedelics can access and develop unused potentials of the human mind.
my take... psychedelics colloquially refers to any sort of substance that produces a psychoactive effect. Hallucinogens are specifically a class of psychedelic drugs, that produce the actual hallucinations to some degree (DMT,Salvia,LSD,Psilocybin).
