1. What is a binch?

2. My plan for the year is to finish the boat I'm building and go for a sail, plus a vacation in the Dominican Republic with my wife while she's still able to travel and then work in a right knee replacement before Medicare gets destroyed for us old timers. I almost said "us mature folks" but then realized I was talking about me, the Lost Boy.

My respects to all starting out fresh after university with career ambitions. Your world seems to be much more daunting than what I faced in 1971.

My plan is to focus on improving my health and lifestyle a lot this year. :) 2016 has been really uphill getting myself out of a dead end, and I've fought hard into a good position, but I've deteriorated to a skeleton in the process.

I expect good things. I'm near enough on even pegging with the founder in a coding school and have free reign over a curriculum. I'm getting the chance to implement and see the tangible effect of my own ideas that before I'd only been researching alone in my room, and am developing leadership and organisational skills I didn't think I had. It feels great to have a sense of receptiveness in the world of people, while still feeling authentic to my own vision.

Happy new year everyone -- my best wishes to you on your journey's.

zerk: whoops! i haven't kept good track of member ages here. i kinda felt highschool seemed a bit young..

puffy: same! i went down to 115lbs sometime this year, but now i'm back up. getting lost in work will do that to ectomorphs like me. i bought a big sack of protein powder and would drink a 2,000 calorie glass of chocolate milk periodically as a snack. :3

...as for my goals, i have a newyear's resolution to become versed in all contemporary psychological theories (and a few other private ones). i've been ordering college textbooks from places like princeton to basically teach myself. also, read up on Ken Wilber, Christopher Alexander, Nietzsche and others.

I'm going into incubation before my next phase of manifestation.

That sounds nice, incubation wise. ^_^ Basically same, I don't think I've ever weighed more than 140lbs and struggle to retain body-weight. I've developed bad digestion problems and so a lot of fatty foods I can't handle anymore, so I have to make things work with a raw diet.

Sounds like a good list. I'd like to do a similar deep study into the history of education.

1) finish undergrad
2) sucker these fuddyduddies into giving me an honours pathway I actually want
3) make the forum great again
4) recover from this damn back injury and resume lifting regime
5) flesh out my spartan abode with white goods
6) establish once and for all that I am in fact blokie enough to become a tradie, but choose not to

Oh, like what? People will suddenly be useful, care only about things that matter, and find and make things that are so great and brilliant that we will seem to be just from the Stone Age?
I think not.:slashnew:
So yeah, yippee. Great new world with undiscovered wonders.
And who knows? I could be wrong.

i have a resolution not to make anymore new year's resolutions. i tend to rebel against regimented expectations so.. yeah :rolleyes:

but i plan to get back on a decent diurnal schedule, get healthy, meditate daily, and be more social (at least as far as foruming on the interwebz goes). i hope to finish the wellness resource website i'm working on and consolidate my psychology hypotheses as well.

@Puffy - noticed you say you have digestive problems. that's something i've struggled a lot with too. may i ask what sort of raw food plan you've found to work?

Sorry to hear that, it depends on what problem you're having I suppose. I have a damaged oesophagus from acute indigestion/ acid reflux specifically, that I think has been caused by long-term bad lifestyle.

I'm largely just paying attention to how my body reacts to things and removing what creates the strongest reaction. In order of what's worst for me personally:

* Caffeine -- 1-2 green teas per day is okay if brewed lightly
* Cigarettes & most drugs
* Alcohol -- occasional glass of red wine at social gatherings
* Fizzy drinks
* Fried food -- I use pressed or hemp oil for dressing only, I steam most veg and poach or boil fish.
* Processed food -- I try to avoid shop bought sauces and make my own.
* Chocolate, salt, sugar -- teaspoon of honey per day.
* Spicy food
* Dairy -- I think it's okay in small amounts and I have too much

Also trying to eat small amounts more regularly rather than big meals, fix sleeping pattern to be more regular & exercise, stretch, meditate, like yourself. I eat fruit, vegetables, oats, grains, seeds, nuts & fish largely.

I'm likely being too restrictive, but I'm enjoying inventing recipes with this degree of minimalism. It's making me discover new foods all the time I've never tried. :) I find if I keep to this I feel well, and then I'll binge one night and it gets really bad again. I'm hoping if I'm strict for a period of 6 months or more my body will have time to heal itself, and then I can start introducing other foods in small amounts over time.

Hope that helps!

Cutting games this year.

I don't know if it's just me or an INTP thing, but going cold turkey is somehow much easier than moderation. Throw out all the "maybe"s and suddenly everything is so much simpler; short circuit the bad habit entirely.

Furthermore, I keep wondering how much games are really good for an INTP anyways. Oftentimes, when I finish a game, I just think "Well, that's finally done with." Again, this just might be my difficulty with moderation; my head gets full of this dumb thing and I want to "get it out of the way". Like having a bunch of tabs open, except it takes 20+ hours to finish clearing through. Stupid.

Also this year: I might actually do a leg day. We'll see.

I used to sail a lot. Total PITA but fun when you get out in the water. Describe the boat for us.

.

16-foot sailing skiff, "Uncle Gabe's Skiff," from a book of backyard-boats by Sam Rabl, first published back in the 1940s. Design was modified to make it trailerable, mostly by the addition of fiberglas cloth. The original was supposed to be kept in the water so the planks would stay swollen and the seams would be watertight. Since my wife said I could NOT keep it in the pool, I opted for fiberglass. Centerboard, not leeboards as shown in the link, and it will handle a small outboard as well as I'm not in as good a rowing shape as I was the last time I built one of these.....

It keeps me out of trouble, which is the actual plan for the new year: Stay out of trouble. I picked up an old mast and boom from the family manor back in New Jersey over the holidays and will spend quite a bit of time restoring them. Boat will be ready when the ice melts here in April.

Probably peaked in my reclusiveness towards people last year and although I'm ok with this I would like some female company so I'll put time aside to actually meet people and socialise.
