Every test I've taken before has said INTP; I relate to INTP.

However, now the results are coming up INFP. Not sure which is correct as both are relevant to me.

The tests are unreliable. They measure what people want to believe, not how they have behaved. Look at the functions and the profiles. The problem with looking at isolated letters is that via the functions we have them all, just in a hard to quantify differing strengths. For example, INTP's are extroverts, in their secondary Ne function.

Also identifying with a type is unreliable, the best way is to look at your past behavior and see where it falls.

study actual human beings. you already know the patterns to look out for. if not, read carl jungs 'typology'. now learn to actually see them as they occur in reality. that's the only way that doesn't lead into a world of moronic hallucinations.

For some reason I don't get along with INFP's so well, don't know why because they're a close cousin to the INTP. Two I've known closely are the biggest space cadets on the planet, they live in such a vague world of mush it makes me dizzy being around them. Plus the unbidden tears and emotionalism is unsettling.

I do best with INFJ's, and pretty good with extraverted types of any ilk, as long as they leave me alone and don't expect me to perform.

The 'mush' you talk of is unrefined brilliance, in my experience. It's almost as if they intuitively have the answer to everything, but find it difficult to phrase the question. It can be somewhat dizzying, as the rose-tinted glasses can at times be a maelstrom of angst, but this seems more a puzzle for me than a shortcoming on their part.

I never have been the shoulder people cry on, so I guess I avoid falling victim to the brunt of their unbridled sop. I sometimes find their naivety in concern to non-adherence to stereotypes a little frustrating too. The Nigerian prince is always going to be a scam, and you want to just give them money without thought of interest??!

Hm, makes sense. Let's see, that would be Fi, one of our "non" functions (or shadow functions). I guess I've had hard enough time with Fe without bringing Fi into the mix.

I do know a psychotherapist to claims to be an INFP, which I struggle with since she is hard as nails. Being tough makes sense for a shrink, but I puzzle over her being an INFP because surely she would know, yet she (to me) seems to defy the type. To be fair I don't know her all that well.

I do note that INFP's having Ne in the subdominant (as we do) gives them access to premonitions like the INTP, which I've observed in them.

I've been coming up as an INFP too, lately.

Mind you, as I've evolved and developed, I've found that those changes reflected in the results of my tests.
