The 'mush' you talk of is unrefined brilliance, in my experience. It's almost as if they intuitively have the answer to everything, but find it difficult to phrase the question. It can be somewhat dizzying, as the rose-tinted glasses can at times be a maelstrom of angst, but this seems more a puzzle for me than a shortcoming on their part.
Hm, makes sense. Let's see, that would be Fi, one of our "non" functions (or shadow functions). I guess I've had hard enough time with Fe without bringing Fi into the mix.
I do know a psychotherapist to claims to be an INFP, which I struggle with since she is hard as nails. Being tough makes sense for a shrink, but I puzzle over her being an INFP because surely she would know, yet she (to me) seems to defy the type. To be fair I don't know her all that well.
I do note that INFP's having Ne in the subdominant (as we do) gives them access to premonitions like the INTP, which I've observed in them.
