We all know that Bungie is creating yet another Halo game titled: Halo reach, but the question is: Is Bungie going to continue making prologues? With the enormous amount of fans, and a firm storyline established by books, and comics, and even a new animated series. Is Bungie going to turn it into the star wars of games?

Possibly...

There's certainly a large enough fan-base and amongst them there's enough dedication to build the sort of geek community that leads to the rapid & consistent expansion of a fictional universe, e.g. talented artists & fan-fic writers who’ve decided the universe’s base themes are worth exploring and expanding upon.

For example: http://www.bungie.net/

But acrobatic mages with laser swords is a hard idea to top.
Then again George Lucas may kill the franchise yet (-_-)

Yeah I see what you mean, They definitely have created a large and expansive storyline, with a TON of fans, (if you check halo 3 online at about 1:00 in the morning there is usually at least 100,000 people playing) but rumor is that they claim that Reach is going to be their last game (I highly doubt that claim)

to be honest, i think halo is greatly losing its following as it just keeps getting worse.
halo 1 was OMFG SHIELDS AND SHOOTING NEEDLES but halo 3 was just meh.
and when my friend preordered ODST, and payed 50 for it.. he was pissed at how meh it was.
they are basically just selling the same game over and over again, but making slight varations that sometimes even make it less fun. i feel like they are attempting to squeeze every penny out that they can, but the sponge is almost dry.
i think if they stopped after halo 3, then they mightve been able to be "the star wars of games", or maybe if they just made 2 end the thing it would have a better memory in our minds.

In halo 1 there were these wonderful lulls in battle where you could stop and appreciate the scenery.

In halo 3 there's this constant swarm of enemies while your allies go on and on about how you should hurry up and get to the next objective, which isn't a bad thing, it's just that it doesn’t stop. It's like the library level all over again, now admittedly I liked that level in halo 1 because it was just the one level, but in halo 3 every, single, one, is like that.

Go here, do that, kill this, now go over there, shoot that, dodge this-
SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LET ME HAVE MY FUN!

You feel pretty proud after doing Halo 3 single player on legendary mode though :p

I didn't even get Halo 3, since I didn't want to get any of the newer-generation of gaming systems and it didn't come out for the original xbox. I played it through with a friend, though, just for completeness' sake (wanted to see how it ended, but playing the game is much more fun than reading a plot summary). I still like 2 the best, but that's mostly because I learned on it... played a lot more multiplayer at parties and stuff before playing either of them single-player. Got used to dual-wielding, and then just became frustrated with the fact that the pistol took up two hands in 1. Such a waste of hand-space.

I completely agree with cog about the scenery, though. Assault on the Control Room was gorgeous.

There is a movie set to come out, though... which could easily lead to a trilogy if it's half-decent... so it might turn star-wars-y, even if no more games come out.

It sucks that none of the games can match Halo 1 when it comes to intense fun and replay value.

Another random thought about the series in general: I was kinda mad that, other than the first 2 books, none of them really connected to the games. I was especially pissed that they didn't continue "Ghosts of Onyx". That story just needed to be continued. So much of the un-explored and unknown Halo universe can be potentially opened up from what happens after that story, but they just left it open-ended.
