Google's much-anticipated operating system, Chrome OS, will be available for download next week, or so goes the latest buzz on the Internet. The latest talk about Google's operating system is courtesy of TechCrunch's Michael Arrington, who says this information comes from a "reliable source." This is the second rumor saying an early release of Chrome OS was imminent.

I have already happily switched from firefox to Google Chrome browser. I can't wait.

If it uses the same philosophy of Chrome, I don't think I'll enjoy it. Chrome isn't nearly configurable enough for me. :/

Sweet. More competition means better OSes for all.

Uhmm... why are you using Safari while writing if it is Google Chrome you've happily switched to?

I think the forum picks up Google Chrome as Safari
(And windows 7 as 98)

Anything that uses KHTML/WebKit is Safari to the forum.

That said, Chrome OS is just another Linux distro. Better get chrome working properly on Linux first. Some java applets I still can't run, which leaves me stuck with Firefox.

Well... I like Google as a search engine, never gotten the hype about Google Chrome.

I guess the OS will be too minimalistic.... suitable only for a casual user, that is, who reads his/her mail, a little bit of news and maybe watch youtube videos and that's it, nothing more.
PS!!
This is just my guess.... I would like to be wrong on that.

Yea i mainly dislike it because of it's essence, being a information-hoarder that secret agencies could just dream of...

I love the philosophy of google and the search engine itself is completely unmatched (imo), but my relationship with google is limited to a web browser. Sure, chrome is very fast, but the non-optional usage tracking is a major turn off. Also, the ability to customize it without diving into the source code and compiling your own build is almost completely lacking (there is rudimentary greasemonkey and plugin support). I also don't like the fact that it forces it's own window style on you, without giving you the option to let your normal window manager handle it.

I'll definitely check out the new OS, but I can't say I'm optimistic, given the previous experiences I've had with googles non-web software.
