I'm sure there are a lot of gamers here.My personal take is quite cynical, so mainstream games are boring to me. Some , though, have broken through.

Mount & Blade (http://www.taleworlds.com/) Is a good example. Its an Action RPG by a independent turkish developer. Its fictional medieval non-fantasy. Some of the best combat I've ever played is in this game. A little rough around the edges but INTPs should enjoy is sandbox and free form game play.

Dwarf Fortress is another(http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/). This is the most complex game I've ever played. Instead of scripted events its based on the possibilities of those events. ASCII graphics are a bit eye straining but its like the matrix, you get 'fluent' in it. There is a thread of a game I played in this very forum (http://www.intpforum.com/showthread.php?t=579)

I can't seem to get an ordered fortress running like I could in the holidays. Maybe I could write a book where that's a plot device, and as the narrator's mental condition deteriorates, so does his ability to micromanage dwarves...

Or maybe not.

They're not dead, My P kicked in, that and heavy S type college professors that demand 5 books to be read in one semester in an entry level course, along with a 5 page paper on each.

There is some good and bad news though. The new version is not backwards compatible, but new versions of this game always have some excellent feature tacked on, so we might not ever see the others again.

I absolutely love this short platformer. It's extremely simple, but so endearing. The characters, while not really doing much, really do portray a sense of longing. When playing this game, I truly just enjoyed discovering things. The sense of longing, exploration, and minimalist presentation kind of reminded me of Shadow Of the Colossus. Artistic and free. Check out "Within a Deep Forest" (also by Nifflas) if you enjoy Knytt.

Ecco the Dolphin meets Megaman. It's absolutely gorgeous and has an enjoyable story. It's not free, but there's a demo.

Shadow of the Colossus. Such an amazing game. You ride around this huge open land alone with your horse killing giants. Some that fly, dive under ground, shake you. It feels so epic. You have to actually climb up them, hang on when they try to get you off of them and stab them in certain spots.

Who wants to know?
Populous, the beginning. Summary: You play as a shaman(ess, technically) who has a vision of her tribe getting destroyed by 3 other tribes, so they must go on the offensive to prevent this. Each level is on a really small planet within a solar system (it is unexplained how the tribe travels from planet to planet), and at the end of the game, the shaman ascends to godhood and destroys the other tribes once and for all (the final mission was really fun). I still love it.

Guilty gear series: Somewhat less famous fighter game series which I like, but am pretty bad at.

Pharaoh: My favourite game of its time along with populous. It's like a less complex simcity game set in ancient egypt. Much planning is still required to make a really good city, though.

Warsow, which you can download at www warsow net. It's a dm-style fps game, but the great thing about it is all the trickjumps that you can do (because you can 'walljump'). Sometimes I just jump around by myself while listening to music, and making up my own tricks.

Shadow of the Colossus. Such an amazing game.

I LOVE that game.

I'm not really sure how well this game did in the public eye, but my favorite game of all time has always been Star Fox Adventures. I've played and beaten that game at least like 5 times now.

Some of my favorite videogames of all time are:

Marathon Trillogy - Mac - FPS
The most detailed, twisted, surreal, frightening, and captivating video game plot I've ever seen. I still think about this game's plot more than a decade later. Rampant AI, reanimated cyborg soldiers, dreams and visions, prophecy, search for identity... this game had it all. Better yet? They did an open source port of the game so it could be played on modern computers! Yay!

The Legend of Zelda - NES - Adventure
This just never gets old! I still play this game to this day. "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this!"

Flashback - Genesis/SNES - Action/Adventure

Man, this game still gives me chills just thinking about it. It's all about the main character's quest for identity. He wakes up with a wiped memory and shape-shifting aliens after him. It's one huge adrenaline rush to the end. You end up slogging through the jungles of Titan, the dystopian Earth slums, a deadly gameshow, and finally the alien homeworld itself.

Halflife Series - PC - FPS
Headcrabs... need I say more?

Breath of Fire III - Playstation 1 - RPG
You can turn into a dragon by splicing various dragon genes into your genetic code... any more questions? ;)

Chrono Trigger - SNES - RPG
Great characters, fun writing, smooth battle system, and epic story.

I <3 adventure games with amazing stories. These are known, but not known enough.

The Longest Journey
A girl who can shift between the worlds of Science and Magic. Amazing story and memorable characters. It has a lot of wonderfully voiced dialog. (my favorite game)

Grim Fandango
A game set in the land of the dead. Love story. Mystery. Beautiful.

And if you liked Shadow of the Colossus, you need to play through Ico. It's the lesser known game that was made by the same people and takes place in the same world. Though, the gameplay is vastly different.

Okay, fine! How about Bioshock? It was like being inside an Ayn Rand novel. Visually, it was a fantastically beautiful game, too. The entire world is an art deco paradise.

I saw Bioshock mentioned, and immediately remembered System Shock 2. SS2 is a great horror game- when I played it the first time I truly had to play during the daytime, it was too scary otherwise. Now it's graphics are faded, but it has phenomenal sound quality and a great story.

Most of my gaming memories come from the Sega Genesis. Anybody played Ristar, or Vectorman? Both epic games.

Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Sega Saturn. One of my favourite games of all time. Fantastic story, great RPG gameplay, lovely style...

I also remember Virtua On for the Sega Saturn... Ok, so it's not a great game, I just remember it being a blast to play as a kid. I mean, who doesn't like giant fighting robots?!

And Final Fantasy 5 is probably my favourite FF. Only played it a year ago but I still preferred to play it to FF12.

I liked the small dinosaurs (velociraptors?), which made "cryack!"-like sounding noises, when they were shot. :D

I remember when I played it as a kid, I was so scared, my heart was pounding so feriouciously, in-fact it was so adrenaline inducing I quit after the 2nd level (I couldn't get past the second level.) Then after a year I beat each level, it was still a very immersive experience, still very adrenaline inducing, and definitely scary, but slightly not on the same heart attack level. Also, the levels from the game were so rich and atmospheric, with a nice fusion of enviro-tech elements, it was like entering the world of Necromancer. Well, a few years later I wanted to see what GameSpot had rated the game- a solid 5.5 (out of 10.) I still felt the same way about they game though, Carnivores Cityscape will always have a special place in my heart =D

Let's see... most of what this guy has done, but in particular Iji.

Noitu Love 2: Devolution

And that's what I can think of online, but otherwise:

Killer7, just played through, and a truly excellent experience if you accept that you aren't in it for the gamplay.

Beyonf Good & Evil: I absolutely adore this game, it's a bit too short and a bit too easy, but it was still an excellent play and truly engaging.

Psychonauts: there's a good chance that you've heard of it, but you most likely haven't played it, which is lamentable and should be corrected post haste.

that's it for now, I think.

Yes! I'm playing through this on the DS right now, and it's become one of my favourite games ever.

A really good horror game for the PC is Penumbra: Overture. It has to be the creepiest game I've ever played. One of the biggest factors that contributes to the atmosphere is the lack of weapons, so you're forced to hide from all your enemies.

Lost, after wandering irresponsibly away from the
Been a while since I played any games, but here you go:

Dunno how you feel about turn-based strategy with a plot to rival RPGs, but I'm a fan of the Fire Emblem series. The most recent is... Shadow Dragon, which is a DS remake of the first FE, although I'm fondly remembering FE7, which was just called Fire Emblem here.

Okami: an RPG set in feudal Nippon (not Japan exactly, but close enough), with the sun deity Amaterasu as the main character. The graphics are cool (sumi-e style), and the interface is great: you change the world around you by drawing on it with the Celestial Brush. There's always something to explore in the world, too. Easily one of my favorite games ever. Oh, and the main character, Ammy, is a white wolf. Novel experience all round-- it's on the PS2 and Wii.

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons

Both are games that drew me in and caused me to spend days playing them, both when I first got them and later when I played them on emulators. They're both SNES games, but well worth looking back on.
