I thought of it but I knew it'd be hard. Pmj was by default on whatever side I wasn't on, even if he suspected you I doubt he'd vote you. So I figured it was a matter of convincing Ika to vote you. Then again it could well have ended up as a no-lynch if Ika just afk'd and didn't vote like the day before.

@Sinny: yeah, I just saw a good opportunity to get not only both of Town's strongest players but also a potential blue role dead on Day 3. I honestly felt like it would have been way too obvious if I didn't tunnel you as hard as Gopher, plus I was struggling to actually create scumhunt content out of thin-air...

Knowing you were scum in advance made it easy to come up with convincing material. Beer money unredacted :^)

If I could warn you I would have. Like I said I was happy with either one of us dying, if it turned out to be me instead I wouldn't have had much of an issue.

The thing I found funny was that I got more enjoyment out of my losing town game than this winning mafia game. Being mafia is annoying because you have to fake all the stuff.

I read through the spectator thread. That was great.
And thanks for all the comments, it's really helpful to hear what people were thinking.
Bummer I was really obvious at some point, but I guess you guys have combined talk plus hindsight to go on.

Of course, by that point, once you are dead, I didn't need to fool you anymore. I just had to deal with the remaining player's threat du jour.
I have a lot to work on, though.

I'm glad I realized pretty fast that I had to play my own game, not someone else's, and found more of my own personal playstyle.

I'm actually really busy right now. Last night I spent 4-5 hours putting out fires at Pers Café while skimming the mafia thread here (and no one posting). I had to dump too much on my second-in-command during all this, so ... glad this is done.

Cheeseum (I think) btw totally called me, when he was responding to you in the spectator thread. That little skirmish wasn't meant to be personal, I kind of misworded it, and it was only really to make you suspicious to others but not hurt your feelings, and I felt kind of crappy about it.

I'm thinking Urakro isn't doing so hot. Sigh. There was something Hado said to him in game that seemed really accurate to me (something about the sandbox, and probably how confused he was feeling by then...)

We are still waiting for Paladin Quicktwist to show up to end the war between the townians and the scumist. Well, by war I mean Massacre, but there might just be a chance of winning this war. The Scumist forces are moving closer and closer each day towards Townville, But Quicktwist, our savior, will come. Right? Right?!?!?!?

Day 23rd,

Well, That shit hole burned down quickly. Who would of thought that giving each townian a flamethrower, would be such a bad idea?

Still no sign of Quicktwist. We have fallen back to Huntsburg, but I doubt we can hold out much longer. We are running out of food and water, and many of the folk are wounded.

Day 25th,

I am alone now. They...They burned Huntsburg to the ground.....

I am alone.....Alone....I have nothing anymore. No job in the read firm. No family anymore, not even food. I do not even know if there are any townians left. I heard that the scumist are mobilizing death patrols at night. I might be killed soon.

First thing is that a lot of big stuff in the game, I don't lie about. I do my best to remain honest about everything I can, even the big stuff. The more things you are honest about, the less they might detect the small lie; you get an aura of believability.

Also, another one of my secrets -- I try really hard to forget I'm mafia, except in terms of target goals. I try to slip back into Town mentality, it's just really damn hard because you need to somehow steer the ship while being Town. But there have been moments where I actually forget I am scum. That's what I'm gunning for. I have to be me, and I have to be Town me. So ... literally sink into it like a pool of water and Become Town.

I gave a wishy-washy read on Sinny to Hado yesterday, and today he called her out on posts she made which ring fake to me too. Basically, they were like attempts to sound Sinny but without OOMPH.

Five Days of Murderous Madness.

1. Happy refuses to attend Town meetings; we hunt him down and throw him in the noose while he's still asleep.

2. Helvete is found dead with a slit throat in a locked room in his bunker hideaway. WTF??

3. Hado is dragged kicking and screaming for the lynch, screaming that it's all GOPHER, GOPHER! he tries to pop a cyanide capsule in his mouth, while waving his Town ID around, but we mercilessly hang him by the neck until dead and don't see the ID crumpled in his hand until after his body is lowered for burial in a pauper's grave.

4. Rook is found smothered by a pillow in his own bed, smiling gently. He looks peaceful.

5. Sinny is poked and poked, gets into it with Gopher, finally screams "YES! It's me you cocksuckers, I AM THE MAFIA!" and while everyone is discussing how to interrogate her for information about her comrades, she throws herself from the clocktower and plunges to her death. The coroner rules it an assisted suicide.

6. Gopher is found sprawled in a corner of his doctor's office, a tilted smile and gas mask on his face, dead from anesthesia overload. On the wall is a message made of old bandaids: "Forgive me, Hado"

7. Urakro vanishes and is never seen again. We lynch him in effigy.

8. Reluctantly (the town cop) is found dead of a heart attack, in an armchair with a book in her lap, dejected over fruitless days of investigation. Although her death is first ruled as natural causes, after a long toxicological examination, it is revealed that she was injected in the webbing between two toes with a massive shot of potassium chloride.

9. Outraged by the lack of results and realizing he has been framed for the crimes, PmjPmj rushes the gallows and lynches himself. Jenny and Baron pretend to try to save him but push the lever "by accident," plunging him to his death.

The reign of death stops once Mafia rules the town, bringing it with a kinder, gentler world. All hail the Mafia!!

I felt like Baron was too exposed and I needed to mole as much as I could, so winning Day 3 would have cost us the match... It was a team effort and you drew short straw, but you set a lot of shit up that helped our team in endgame; when Ika ran the Sinny filter, you basically helped us lynch Urakro on Day 4 and set up Day 5.

So you are still getting that commemorative Sinny statue facing north that Baron promised!

I'm going to try to pull back off him before the lynch, because I'm making this game about me again. Fuck. Now Sinny gonna get up in my grill again. Hopefully so long as I don't make it about my personal influence she'll leave me alone.

Not that I think she's town unless she somehow manages to get back to her quibble with me. I rub her the wrong way, if she doesn't find something to take issue with eventually, then this is not just her having had time to breathe and approaching the game with fresh eyes, this is an act. Gopher acknowledging but playing down the differences in her approach is part of my read on him regardless of her alignment. His reaction to which way she goes will either further evidence his scumminess, or help me see his innocence.

Sinny's released a list, where I'm her most suspected. This passes muster on my criteria of her expected town behaviour. But she was also tipped off that she was being unsinnylike, at which point she rapidly changed her tune.There was a transition phase though it was short. I think her very well capable of deliberately acting more biased given last game's events and just how much she's been pushed to be aware of her biases. She understands our expectations. It's as if she switched too fast.

To be fair, I did increase my level of ego-centrism, which is one of her gripes with me. I think she's successfully wifomed me :S

RB is posting more, and there is some aggression there, but it seems like he's not really in it. I suspect him, though he's not a super heavy red read. He also went for the buddy-up with me again. He claims that if I was scum he'd see right through it immediately. That seems like an unfair amount of confidence for someone who hasn't seen me play scum. As it turns out I'm not confident that isn't the case, but he shouldn't be so confident it is. This smells to me like him having an excuse not to have to suspect me.

I actually thought that was really bad play on his part from the start... But.. everyone bought (the audacity of) it.

Okay it looks like I've got it all set up like I wanted it. Hopefully Sinny doesn't go ham on me, as the only way to fight the man I've given her.

This whole intuition thing is interesting to me. On one hand, it's not logical. So I hate it. But on the other hand, multiple people are picking up on Sinny being 'off'. Which is convergent validity.

Noted. I think 9 player 48hours is not a bad idea at all. Eventually, I would like to see people other than me making setups and running games. Hosting a game is actually quite fun because on the off chance that someone is really getting things right it is really cool.

Would like to say that Mafia earned this win all things considered. They played very well.

Just as an FYI, if people from here start to go elsewhere to play, it would be cool if you could let me know. I tend to get around to different sites to play at so there is a chance I have played there.

I think the forum is kind of small and has trouble supporting a consistent 13 player game at the moment, so a smaller game might be better...
Plus, you see what happens when INTPs get all excited in the initial stages of an experiment, but then the game drags out too long without resolution and with a hell of a lot of WIFOM. haha.
Which is my way of saying that I agree with smaller groups and shorter days.


I think overall that Baron's intensity on the Hado/Gopher thing helped, plus we did well at exploiting Town weakness. Pretty much any flaw that Town showed, we tried to capitalize on. But Baron was the most proactive player, otherwise we reacted decently.

A Mafia Subforum would make sense, just to keep things organized. I dunno who on staff has admin rights to make forum structure changes though.

The set up is pretty town favored. Mafia has no anti-check protection, which means that when a cop check comes back, it will always be 100% truthful. The only way to disprove it, is to fake CC it as mafia.

And since the cop can check each night, that means he confirms someone each night. Here, the cop was a bit obv due to his blue talk, yet that can really screw over mafia and is very swingy.

Yeah, I was feeling a great deal of pressure. Town gets a free read every night, unless we guess right with RB. And I couldn't afford to die (which is why I played the stealth game, although it also suited me). We were fortunate in how things played out. I know I felt a ton of pressure and the setup didn't feel friendly.

Thanks for the alternate suggestions for setup -- since I was scum, I actually read a ton on the mafia boards but it was a lot to absorb, and I didn't get to pay much attention to setup but instead was reading strategy guides both for town and scum.

Feels nice not having a crutch like meta to play with/deal with. People here a nice enough I suppose as well (I kid I kid).

As for hosting, I could host (as I have experience) but I would have to plan for it. Storms/Weather is bad this time of year (as I found out last game I hosted) so yeah.

As for day time, I always have played in 48 hours/24 nights, which works well. If you cannot get on 1 day, you have another one to play on.

Well playing from a town perspective made me realise game is not for me; i was too concerned with hurting people's feelings (which is stupid because this is a game...).
my push on Helvete was guilt free because they really were not posting or defending themselves. but most other comments i made towards other players made me feel bad, like when I pushed sinny a little bit and she accused me of implying she's a retard(fk u sinny), i felt guilty and started to not want to read her as scummy and put her as probable power role in my head instead.
It's easier/feels less guilty to manipulate people as mafia because when your role is revealed people will know for sure that you didn't mean any of the attacks you made

If you really need replacements in the future then you can consider me but otherwise I'm not really up for playing again with people im familiar with

Yeah, I'd put my vote in on the changes suggested so far (9 player 48 hrs).

It's a shame that town started giving up towards the end and that the replacements had so much to catch up on but mafia played well. I didn't think RB was mafia until after day 3. I think I noted suspicion towards Jenny in day 1, but you remained pretty ambiguous throughout and I was never as sure of you as my other suspicions.

I think the longer day might have been what killed this as it dramatically increased the post count, which makes the game a lot more tedious and unfun to follow. A smaller group of players should prevent replacements, and 9 players 48hr days means the game would be finished within a week. I'd experiment with a smaller game and then see what happens.

Maybe do 7 town (vigilante, cop) and 2 mafia (roleblocker)?

Serial killer sounds really fun. But town have already lost two games from a position of 10 town vs. 3 mafia. With a serial killer (or cult leader) its 6 vs. 2 vs. 1.

In a 9 player game playing as vigilante might be more interesting as it puts a lot of pressure on them to get it right or severely disadvantage the town.

I find the concern about the feelings of others genuinely strange. I'm not saying butthurt doesn't occur, but it's all part of the game. Once you step out of this thread, everything is rosy. Case in point: myself and Hado were shooting the shit throughout (no game talk) via PM, even though I was being a bit of a nob within the game.

This is very very true in my experience. It is a game and while if I was in charge I would go by the guideline Dizzy put forth of attacking arguments and not players, there is still a good chance that people will get but hurt for getting their case(s) torn to shreds.
