"Charlatans hold sway over a powerful magic, in the delight of their audience."

Another retake on Schopenhauer's musings, in particular the price of learning, disillusionment; but as my mental goldfish suggests, although the capacity for gaining pleasure directly from a magician's tricks disappears in a puff of figurative smoke the moment one learns how the trick is done, one gains in return the capacity to perform the trick themself for the benefit of others, and the vicarious pleasure inherent in bringing the delight of magic & mystery to others.

What thoughts are swimming around in your head?
Be they whales or minnows, it doesn’t matter.

Lately, I've been thinking of technology and how it might advance in any number of years. And also how much of the technology we have currently is probably obsolete. Scientists and theorists have all the knowledge to do amazing things; they just haven't put it together yet. That is my pure speculation, so don't quote me on that.

Quite frequently, I think of subject matter that deals with philosophy, science, and theology.

I am working on new types of alternative energy sources. I have designed a new type of Savonius wind turbine, a vertically aligned wind turbine. I also am in the process of of trying to figure out how to incorporate silicon quantum dots, carbon nanotubes and fiber optic strands into the ultimate photovoltaic/solar cell. I am trying to make people aware of the scam involving hydroelectric power - all of the renewable energy we need is already being stored in man-made lakes and ponds, but there is no push to harvest this energy. I also am trying to locate the very best prospects in Oklahoma and Texas for in situ combustion of hydrocarbons to run steam driven turbines at the surface.

I am wondering how to get some music software so i can tweak some of my favorite tunes, I am contemplating making a video based on one of the quantum physics threads that would explain the POV I was trying to express in static images. I am thinking about finishing up one of the dozens of incomplete papers i have on my desktop. I promised to do some photoshop work for a friend...

Of, course this is happening basically all at the same time, so I doubt very few of these projects will get finished.. except for the photoshop stuff -that is the easiest and most enjoyable...

That is truth. I have so many things I could be doing that I get overwhelmed and end up not doing any of them. Maybe it would be nice to have some J in that instance.

What about enjoying the skill gained for its own sake, for the mastery over it, for the pleasure of the act and the here-and-now?

Oh, the deep sorrow to be found in such an idea.

But what would happen if I let the waves carry me away? Would I drown?

I imagine you'll be carried away whether you wish it or not. They don't drown anybody, they just erode your will over time.

I have to conclude you are right. There is no death. But as your will diminishes, then the sea has its way with you. But no matter how how it turns out, there is safety in the sea. To be floating perfectly still, with nothing to destroy you. Don't go deep. There are creatures wishing to destroy you.

I wonder about laser drilling and why it isn't used. They are able to cut some decent sized, clean holes with some low power lasers by inducing heat "shocks" to the rock. Seems like it would be cheaper and more efficient than the current rigs.

Like blob I also think about renewable energy and improving upon current energy systems. I think the (immediate) future is in solar and geothermal. I am planning on building a turbine electric hybrid buggy one day running off gasoline. See what kind of numbers I can get.

I imagine blob that if you get that pv cell working you will be a rich man.

I'm too young, to have those kinds of resources, or even understand much of what you are saying. :waffe:

Agreed, however willingly giving in is where the drowning ultimately comes in.

Newspeak, and the concept of language confining thought. What marvelous things can we not imagine because we have no concept or possible way to think of them?
What is thought? Scientists cannot explain how the chemical/electrical impulses in our heads get translated into consciousness, we really have no idea how the brain works. Except for the fact that it does work, and works well (sometimes at least).
Why do we draw pleasure from expressing ourselves in art?
Everyone exists within their own universe, i want to see the differences, sort of going back to "is my blue the same as your blue?" thing.

I need to go learn some calculus and physics more than anything else. And I have plenty of time with which to do it in.

But I also need to research the possibility that there theologically isn't an afterlife.

Ho hum, it is a fairly simple thing, but I currently lack the resources to build a prototype. I suppose if nothing encouraging happens in my finances soon, I will just post it into the Public Domain and let the DIYers of the world have at it...

If you are in America and really concerned about renewable energy we have tremendous reserves of impounded water than could be used to produce hydroelectric power, at a tiny fraction of the cost of wind power - this great investment in $100,000,000 wind farms is nothing more than a politically correct scam. There are those connected to politicians who are making fortunes from this politically-correct but horrible, inefficient and expensive source of energy. Of course, these expenses will just be passed on to the consumer - anyone still on the grid in the future...

I am probably going to go for geothermal when I build my first house. Depending on the price.

I had some friends build a house on a lake lot, they used the entire lake as a heat sink, basically paid for the house and the lot by building it in the right spot...

I can definitely relate to the language prison. When I did shrooms there are thoughts of concepts Ive had that simply cannot be explained. This is definitely a heavy heavy thought.

One way I see around this is we devise a machine or language that lets us communicate pure meaning and not using words ,as vehicles, which get distorted through all kinds of filters.

Something similar to your post: a friend of mine told me about is that every time you access your memories the chemical make up of that specific memory get changed slightly. So when you think back to your childhood you may be imagining something that you never actually did but, then again whats the difference?

-------

Blob:

I don't understand the intricacies of your PV idea (silicon quantum dots??). I imagine you are designing the cell on a molecular level, rather than using a doped crystal. Turning a shot gun into a high power laser.

Enlighten me on the specifics of your hydroelectric ideas. You can PM me if you choose.

Another fish for the bowl.

Somehow I happened upon the idea of there being a traditional Japanese tea cermony in a videogame, not nessecarilly as a part of the game itself, instead something more like a easter egg the player has to go well out of their way to get to, except a lot of work should be put into making it (unlike most easter eggs which are just tacked on graffiti). The idea being that the player will go to a great deal of effort to get to it, then (if only because they're there) the player will participate in the tea ceremony (as the one doing the pouring) via skill-challange mechanics (like how skateboarding games handle balance) which is of course will be just as labourious, difficult, and frustrating as it sounds.

As a reward for completing the ceremony without any mistakes (no easy feat) the NPC recieving the tea will ask the player (well their character) to sit down with them, then say something along the lines of:
There is no achievement for what you have done, no secret weapon, not even a joke, nothing, and yet you put so much effort into doing it, indeed perhaps this is why you did it, because so much effort was required, so you see it is not the destination that matters, what matters is the journey getting there.
You are welcome back anytime my friend.

Heck I would like to make an entire FPS game like this, full of completely inappropriate yet oddly compelling diversions with deep philosophical meanings.

I am not having some deep thoughts at the moment. While reading a memoir it is making me remember my own childhood memories. Are they even real at this point? For instance I have a memory long thought of as my oldest memory but it has no relevance to my daily thinking routines, I only think about it when I think of my memories. Are old memories even useful for us? Also I'm noticing a trend in which I remember one memory which leads to more. If only there was a way to get these down quicker.

^I would love if an achievement pops up afterwards. (Mood Breaker)

Love the idea Cognisant. However, it would be absolutely necessary to weave this philosophical easter eggs into the story, so that the storyline is more complete and meaningful.

Wait, FPS? Ok then.
