Figuring out the 'deep net' and Onion browser?

So i was power thinking earlier and wondered, "I wonder if there's a some sort of secret internet like on a different frequency or something where the government generally wouldn't be able to access the information and it would be hidden... Surely the military must use something like this?" So naturally i go and google and search it up... And I come across this: http://thebotnet.com/guides-and-tutorials/49828-how-to-access-the-hidden-wiki/ Now apparently the military do use a completely different secret internet system which is basically inaccessible (forgot the name), but this post refers to the use of the 'deep net'. As a knowledge hungry INTP i figured I would be extremly benefited if only I knew how to use it. As i have only an iPod and no computer I download the Onion Browser app... yet without a proper way to search it and (surprise surprise) nowhere on the surface net of how to use it I'm slightly stuck. Where do I start??

Yeahh... figured that when i went snooping around on there and everything's going on about this 'CP' thing and i was like "what the hell is CP?"... and i clicked on one of the links... Bad bad very bad mistake... will be a million times more careful in the future... however i've heard it's not all evil down there. There's so much i could learn, stuff google would never tell me, seems a shame really if i can't use it.

hangout on 4chan, or go into some forums. A22 is right, the dark net is full of nothing appealing unless you need to talk to someone secretly online.

Yeah, I can see why you'd want to check it out, but it's really less romantic than you'd think.
Again, it's just gore, CP, drugs, and wannabe terrorists. There are some forums and the like, but they're sorely underpopulated.
It's not "Ooh dark too seekrit and dangerous", it's just not worth your time.
Now, if piracy really does get cracked down on, then I could see some more people migrating...
