Who likes natural sugar water, with a tinge of starch and fiber?

What do you usually like to buy at the store, or what do you like personally?

Do the trade dynamics in your country disallow your favorite fruit? Is the cost higher than it used to be? Is the quality of the fruit bad? Do you like eating the seeds of a fruit? The skin? And why is an underwear brand named fruit of the loom?

It's probably called Fruit of the Loom because their underwear is the positive product- the "fruit"- of the machine that sewed it all together- the "loom." They put the fruit on the label because most people respond more positively to pictures of bright colors and food than sewing machines. Just a guess, though, I may google it later.

Watermelons! It can substitute for a meal or be prepared as snacks for the whole family. The good ones are only available during the dry season though.

I think you can get one for US$1.00 here.

I like bananas, oranges and mandarins, nectarines, watermelon, strawberries and...that's about it I think. Unripe pear can be nice. I haven't had the chances to try any exotic fruit due to their prices here and they are probably not in a great shape by the time they get here.

Generally, I'm more of a veggie person, I don't enjoy the sweetness of most fruits and tend to prefer the ones that are not fully ripe.

I am approaching a fruit based diet and bananas are that one affordable staple food, followed by dried pitted dates and on summer days i would occasionally eat watermelon.

Bananas must be ripe, in order to taste sweet. Ripe bananas have many brown spots on the outside. I usually consume Bananas as a smoothie.

It's possible to blend dates with water into what is called "datorade", but i don't have the high powered blender needed to accomplish this.

I also eat some yellow-red-apples and in winter there are clementines, but there is a limit to how much i can eat of apples and clementines, so they don't work very well as staple and are just for contrast.

I also eat figs sometimes, some of them are delicious, others not so much.

I eat raisins sometimes, they are super cheap but a bit intoxicated with rubbish oils.

-fresh dates. those are just the most incredible bonbons! I would have checked dates in the survey! But too expensive for daily consumption.

-fresh grapes are also too expensive as energy source, but i love them as much as fresh dates.

-mangos and papayas. Also too expensive to be a staple. It's also difficult to discern their quality, when buying them.

Red grapejuice deserves honorable mention. I call it "fuel for my bike". It has the most calories of any fruit juice. Juice is also great when tripping on something, so as to not upset the stomach with digestion.

I haven't even tried all the exotic fruits that are celebrated in the fruitarian community, such as durian. But i already dream of moving to thailand.

I love fruit in general. Whatever is in season/in good condition at the moment is my favorite. Most fruit is expensive though, so I tend to stick with apples, oranges, and bananas.

While we're all here. People think I'm some kind of freak for eating the whole apple (except the stem) and the whole kiwi (except the pith at the top). But that's kinda normal for slightly less wasteful cultures, right? It's not like you can actually taste the kiwi skin or the apple core.

edit: woohoo! 2000th post!

Strawberries are my favorite. Cherries are always nice and tangerines are good.

Also grapes. Fuck I didn't put grapes in the poll.

edit: woohoo! 2000th post!

Congrats! This is a truly momentous and significant moment :)

*high-fives* Yeah, I do that. Have been known to just go for the stem as well. :o

There's a lot of fruit I like as a treat, but my daily diet includes two portions of berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries), bananas, dates, and tomatoes.

Poll is limited :D there are many more exotic fruits I am currently discovering, trying. I like most fruits and experiment cooking with then in more savoury dishes too.

Mix herbs into fruit salads. Mix salad into fruits. Try whatever.

Wait, what definition of fruit are we using. I like tomatoes. But they taste terrible during winter. Also, nobody checked persimmons, those are fucking awesome. Though in general I don't eat much fruit as I get sick from them :L

I don't tend to eat skins unless on like apples or potatoes, I didn't figure those even had much of a nutritional value. I might be wrong.

WHAT THE F......

One USD? 1 USD?!?!

In Japan it's like 1,500-2,000 Yen, which is basically like 20 bucks.. (USD)... In Korea it was like 8,000 Won, or 8 dollars. And this is from cheap retail places too, like Costco. I'm pretty sure they're raised in California too, the watermelons. One dollar watermelons.. wow

I've heard that something like 99% of all the pollutants and chemicals (pesticides etc) in a kiwi is in its skin.

It's not surprising. Japan is a tiny, densely populated island chain without a production of their own, so most fruit has to be shipped from mainland China and other places. I've heard they sell single-packed grapes in japanese stores, that was quite shocking to learn, but it makes sense if I think about it.

We have 1$ (or cheaper) watermelons in central europe too, during the season, it's mostly sugar and water but it's nice to have those available.

Fruits are my favourite junk food. I like to eat melons, persimmon and red grapes, however grapes are expensive and I can't always afford to have them.
Unripe plums and pears may be good if there's a season for them.

Anyone who thinks fruit makes them sick must learn about fruit combining (#1 reason for "sickness") and ripeness. Fruit is the only food on the planet that has calories and does not make humans sick at all. You are officially a reptile, if you can't handle them.

There is a flipside to that: anyone who thinks fruit is categorically healthy must learn that the fruit they buy in the store is nothing like the fruit our ancestors used to eat. Compared to the original, wild fruits, the stuff we eat is mostly just sugar and acid.

This is a legitimate concern and would explain that voice that keeps telling me to destroy all the humans (?)

Yeah, $1 watermelons aren't something I see here on the east side of the usa. In most groceries I'm probably paying $4 for at best a half of one (and more typically $5-6). I can get a whole melon or cantelope for $3 if on sale, $4 if not. That's grocery chain pricing (low end). If I can find a fruit stand, the pricing might improve but I'm not sure. The cool part about our local fruit stands is that the fruit is typically fresh. Usually apples and peaches are among the "freshest" fruit I can get in this area. Most of the rest seems packaged elsewhere and shipped in.

They really gouge you if you are a lazy butt and want to purchase your fruit (like watermelon or pineapple) pre-chunked.

Also how the fuck are plums lumped into the same category as pears?!

Maybe it's a "Fly" like mutational merging.
They should be called Plears or Pums.

But srsly...wtf? I'd expect peaches to be lumped with plums. Pears are their own beastie.

Well my parents' house is a bit near various farms so fruits and vegetables are quite cheap. I think another reason that watermelons are relatively cheap is that you can raise them quite easily.

In the cities, I think the price would be at the 1.5 to 2 US dollars range.

Bananas every day. Bananas for breakfast. Bananas for snack. Bananas when I'm bored. I fucking love bananas. I plan to start growing bananas when the winter is coming to an end.

Avocados are really good too. I try to eat one of those a day. The magic of American grocery stores. You can do so much with them. They can be used with meat to enhance the flavor. Made into a dessert. Just eaten on their own with some salt and/or citrus juice. Great source of fat for a salad. Also, something I plan on growing.

WOooooOoOooo! Go pineapples. Pineapples are great. I really don't like bananas. I know they're healthy and all that, but the taste is weird and I hate the texture. They also don't have juice, which weirds me out.

Watermelons are cool too. I've never tried a persimmon before. I also like apples. @Yellow, there's a bit of a problem with eating the core. There's loads of dirt and crap that gets in there via the aperture at the top of the apple. If you eat them from the top down like "life hacks" suggest, you're really damaging your teeth.

I didin't know it was a "life hack", but I tend to go for the middle, then top. Anyway, the idea of eating dirt doesn't bother me. I've eaten straight dirt before. It's really not bad. But then, I have a very active immune system.

I favor most fruits, the only notable aversion I have is towards papayas.
There seems to be some evidence that papayas(or the leaves...?) aids one gastronomically though.

Granadillas used to be repulsive as well, until I sunk my teeth into one picked from the Indonesian jungle.

Strawberries all the way, but plums and pears are really close behind.

But I just eat a fruit per month, maybe two months even. I don't eat a lot of vegetables either, sometimes as a side dish with meat and potatoes.

My weak will goes for the chips and the chocolate instead. I live in a sea of sweets and I'll regret that later

I eat bananas and apples every day. I eat fresh berries whenever I get ahold of them. And I like pretty much all other fruit. Pomegranate seems pointless, though.

i appreciate bananas, my grandmother had several mango trees in her backyard and i used to eat them everytime, i don't really like apples, oranges only for juice, grapes, strawberrys and such are better in jams to mix with cheesecake and perhaps toasts.
i also remember some exotic fruit i had in venezuela they called it mamon, it was super nice, easy as fuck to find for free and handy to eat, miss it a lot.

This might be a bad time to inform you all that bananas are in danger. At least the Cavendish variety are likely to go the way of the Gros Michel fairly soon.

After just realizing I ultimately checked every fruit except apple, I had to raise the bar a little. Actually I love apples, but only 1 kind and they never sell it because nobody else seems to like the bitter ones.

Also I heard tomatoes are technically a fruit.
