As a life-long car enthusiast, I consider a car to be both a work of art and a canvas. It can be bought, driven and enjoyed the way it sits in stock condition or can be cut up and repainted. It can co-star in a movie or T.V. show, it can be built up for racing. It could even be left to deteriorate for decades; where it would inspire urban art: like a drawing, painting or a stylistic photo. So what is your current favorite model car(custom one offs excluded)and why? What feelings does it evoke? What specifically draws you to it? Is it the body lines, interior, handling, speed capabilities or sound. Is it the affordability, feel, practicality, build potential, sentiment, or obscurity? My favorite car is the 1978 Camaro Z28 for multiple reasons:
1. It's the only year they made the second generation camaro that came with "endura" rubber bumpers and a rounded dash.
2. Most of them came with a Chevy 350. The Chevy 350 is the best selling engine of all time because of how reliable and mod-able it is; the engine practically started American hotrodding.
3. It's a car I have a lot of history with. When I was 3, I found a Hot Wheels representation of it in a box in the garage. Out of the hundreds of Hot Wheels cars I collected as a kid; it always remained my favorite(despite the fact that due to a jammed axle; the back wheels didn't even roll) The car shares the same f body style of the Pontiac Trans Ams that littered the highly inappropriate Burt Reynolds movies I watched over and over at age 5; The Cannonball Run/I] Smokey and the Bandit Hooper /I] Smokey and the Bandit II/I] I was 13, my brother was looking for a cheap car and he found and showed me a blue and black two-tone 78' Camaro RS sitting in the auction section of a used car lot. I hoped and prayed he would buy it; I thought it was the prettiest car I had ever seen in real life, up close. My dad said it was junky as hell. Sadly, it sold before he could had the money to buy it. When I was 14, my good friend's neighbor had one rotting away in his yard.
5. It's one of the few desireable muscle cars that didn't come with a boxy, simple design. Instead, it featured an aerodynamic design that still maintained an aggressive and classic look; unlike other aerodynamic cars of the 70's that have been commonly considered ugly for decades.
6. If I had one, it would send the message loud and clear that I'm a piece of white trash(especially after I cam it).
7. I have many ideas for what I could do to it to make different from the rest.
8. It reminds me of Custom 1977 Camaro Mode Bumble Bee, from the reasonably hated movie that I loved as a 9 year old kid(I mean come on, it was like small soldiers, but with sexy cars that turned into giant robots)
9. Unlike every other classic muscle car, they're still relativley affordable; ranging from $3000 to $15000 depending on the condition it's in.
