I'm thinking of Fasting for a few days, what's a better way to gain control of oneself then to gain control of hunger? Any suggestions, tips?

Edit: Now that I think about it.. this might be in the wrong section, move it if need be. =3

I really don't think fasting solves hunger issues. If anything it causes more harm to your body than good. Your body switches to survival mode and you start to convert more of your energy intake into fat.

I don't know what you eat but I used to eat and drink tonnes of rubbish (sweets, crisp, fizzy drinks). I thought about it for quite a while and decided it was a bad way to carry on living.

I have switched a lot of things around when it came to what I eat and drink.

I have replaced sweets with dried apricots which are really like eating Wine Gums except all apricot flavour with a slightly furry texture. I drink water mainly now when out and about and have replaced sugar in my coffee with honey.

And there is nothing quite like a stick of celery with Salad Cream on it! Mmmm

I feel a lot beeter than I used to, more vibrant and refreshed.

I think the purpose is to gain self-control.

moderation with anything can help accomplish this (although the magnitude of what is being moderated greatly effects the magnitude of the results)

EDIT: lol @carnap

fuck off

edit : well, yeah, they'll use evolution to justify/"explain" any behavior in society, but God forbid we study evolution to know what is an appropriate way for humans to eat for optimal health/disease prevention.

I went without food for over two days, it wasn't that I was dieting, I just forgot to eat. The pain of hunger goes away after a few hours until you're left feeling weak and tired. That sort of fasting does do a great deal of damage to the body, depending on how long you forgo food.

Doing what you propose however, will not give you any control over your body. All control is an illusion, the smallest vein in your body giving can lead to your death.

Fasting can indeed be dangerous if you are not careful. Especially in our days, which is why people do juice fasting. You get all the nutrients you need (minus protein and healthy fats) and since your body does not have to break things down it is instantly absorbed.

It does, however, make you tired. Les tired than a water fast, though.

It slows your whole body down. Whether you think it is pseudo science or not, the theory is that your body cleans itself out. The body will selectively get rid of bad stuff (ex. mucus and other nasty shit that is stuck in the colon will be expelled if enough liquids are consumed).

I think you're better off exercising regularly.

I've noticed that when I exercise I don't want to eat bad foods or overeat, because my body knows that exercising later will be painful lol.

Of course, it does take a prerequisite amount of willpower to exercise everyday. I don't have a choice since I don't have a car and I have to bike to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time.

oh yeah exercise is imperative. If I do 30 minutes a day and then skip a day, I notice it : I sleep poorly, I sleep too late, my neck and back are all sore, I'm grumpy/tired, etc.

I'm one of those people that needs a strict lifestyle, i.e. perfect sleeping/exercise/eating habits.

Yoga is perfect for me. Solitary, works the entire body (cardio and all the muscles, the back, everything!). Also it is so fun to progress. To notice week by week that just a little bit of practice can lead you to do some pretty cool positions.

I could never fast. It sounds quite interesting but my relationship is much to close.

Fasting can actually be used as a means of cleansing the body.
I recommend doing some research and reading before you try anything, and I suggest you steer yourself away from ideas like using hunger to "control" yourself. Those kinds of thought patterns can often lead to eating disorders. -shrugs-
