I am just curious. I see many of you are actually stating that most masterminds that are either careful planning serial killers are always INTJ.

So, assuming an INTP WOULD be a serial killer, how would his actions differ from that of a INTJ and what weaknesses would he have that should be looked at?

I attempted to put myself in the shoes of a killer and I still came to the conclusion that a well ordered plan was needed because I could not fail. Though I generally am quite abstract, I have no room to mess up and thus, I would have to force myself to see details so they could be accounted for. The weakness I found in myself is that I would miss something in my search and most likely, it would go askew.

This situation does not seem to differ from an INTJ, however. Their biggest weakness is that they DO miss something and thus, everything falls apart.

How would an INTP go about assuring himself that everything was accounted for and he would not be caught, while still maintaining that same P of slight disorder?

he'd go too far with bizarre ideas in attempts to not get caught... like wearing a dead criminal's hand skin as a glove to confuse fingerprint investigators

or is that practical enough to be J? probably both oddly P and almost J enough to work

The sad fact is that if I had been in that situation, though I had not considered it, I most likely would try that.

While a J might believe they have accounted for everything when they have in fact not, a P might think out the possibility of being caught, prolonging the period of 'unsuspicious' behaviour long after it could be layed to rest. Depending on how good they are they may go to too great a length to ensure they are not caught, which in itself brings greater risk.

I came to terms with the fact I am a terrible liar years ago, once I lie to cover a lie a downward spiral is initiated which always ended with me getting caught, usually as some little detail is forgotten on my part. A J might have a period after which they act and feel as if they have gotten away scott free, I still remember the very first lie I ever told and am still dubious as to whether I got away with it.

I can lie when I need to. If it does not matter, I simply cannot. If it truly matters however...I have surprised myself.

I would just like to hear what an INTP villain would most likely look like.

Hmmm... To be a villain you pretty much need extreme ideals, which you are so convinced of that you want to force them onto others. I've had some pretty semi-crazy ideas, which if I were to try and perform, I would most likely be called evil by the masses, but I just don't care about anything enough to try and force it down another's throat.

Maybe if the evil I was doing was only evil in that I was not doing it? like if I was sitting on the cure for cancer and world poverty but not handing it out?

Of course then my brain turns on and the idea of mad scientists appears, your typical eccentric INTP villain who will commit atrocities in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding

So you are suggesting that the INTP villain would not commit evil on purpose, but simply out of curiosity. That is an interesting outlook.

As an INTJ I am compelled to reiterate that we INTJs do in fact have monopoly rights over being masterminds. Any attempts for any other type to undertake a position of mastermind will have to endure litigation.

I think INTJs actually carry out their plans, and INTPs are too lazy to, no matter how elaborate the plan is? I think an INTP would eventually be put off by the complications that come with it due to laziness.

But I think if an INTP really has his/her eyes set on a goal, like with a fiery passion (which is kinda rare), they would probably be no different than an INTJ in carrying out their actions.

I'm just guessing that an INTP would come up with a brilliant plan, and be like "maybe someday I'll do it, boy will they be sorry when I actually do it!!"

an INTJ would be like "This is my plan, see you later when I'm done with them." :twisteddevil:

Or you will be out thought and taken down.....eventually. :D

I would not say that INTP's are incapable of carrying out plans. We just have a tendency to not do it over half the time. We do finish half of our grand schemes. I consider that a pretty good ratio.

Yes but to have a goal requiring hard work, advanced planning and unethical behaviour you need to believe in the change that you would bring about. I can't speak for all intps, but I don't care about anything enough to work against the grain. An intp mastermind would probably perceive the ethical dilemma, and need to either rationalise it away (oh we are good at that) or save it for another day.

That is the only 'if' to the statement and you found it. I would be unable to be an INTP mastermind just for the pure reason that I have no good cause for doing so. But assuming there were such a cause, my guess is that an INTP mastermind would be an interesting new villain to see instead of the evil laugh.

Perhaps an INTP mastermind just couldn't be bothered.

Well there is that, but where does the laziness come from, and why is it a characteristic of beig an INTP. I am lazy, but my laziness is caused by a lack of meaning in the goal I apparently supposed to be trying to achieve. Why do I not have a clean room? because it will get dirty again and I don't really care. I might clean it if when I did I got a lasting benefit from it, but I don't, and I'll just need to clean it again the next week or so. When I 'cannot be bothered', it is the result of an internal struggle weighing up the pros and cons of pursuing the course of action in question, my current values generally lead me to doing nothing.

I might be the most perfect candidate in existence for this question. Please realize that this is not a joke, or a troll post. As an INTP with aspergers, I feel almost no emotions. Ever since I was a child I knew innately that if I killed someone I would feel no guilt whatsoever. (Unfortunately I also can't read faces... but that's not important). Anyway, when I was in early grade school I decided that humanity could be much improved from its current state, and I decided to devise a way to take over the world (I am not kidding you). I wasn't doing this for my own benefit, I was going to do this as a sort of favor to an unwilling species (if that makes sense). Since this would involve potentially killing millions of people in a truly global war, I kept my ideas to myself. Over several years I ran through scenario after scenario, trying to find ways to succeed. No idea was too bizarre to be considered. Ironically, my progress was slowed immensely because my plans were all in my head, as I was paranoid about getting caught. By early middle school my basic plan was completed. I spent a further 6ish years devising the details. I figured my plan had about a .1% success rate, which was as good as it was ever going to get. However, by the middle of high school I began to question whether humanity was actually worthy of my "help". After all, why didn't it help itself? (I don't really think of myself as human) In the end, I decided that it wasn't worth a lifetime of effort.

If I were going to kill a random person, I would try to take as many precautions as possible. Gloves are a must, as is a skiing hat and a change of clothing. And don't forget to take your shoes off! Different shoe tracts look quite strange in a crime scene. A good rule of thumb: always try to make the death look like a suicide or an accident. If you can't manage that, then frame someone else for it. I would also go to pains to kill different people in different ways. My biggest weaknesses as a serial killer would be lack of motivation, laziness, and being obsessed with waiting until the very perfect time (which might never come).

@GYX_Kid
Oh my god.... that sounds exactly like something I would come up with.... We should be evil masterminds together!!!!

It is not that I am saying INTP's are completely lazy (though we are somewhat lazy...) it is just that we often get enthusiastic about a new idea, go to implement the idea, and we get distracted by yet another idea. In the end, we find ourselves so many good ideas, we often leave projects half finished.

And that is why masterminds have minions.

Hmmm...now that is a good idea. The question is, would I ever decide which AI to implement or get halfway done and be left with a Glad0s?

I would just push of the person I wanted dead of a bridge. Nice and easy, just try to make it so I was friends with them and had no motive. If they can't prove I have a motive I am either crazy or I did not do it.

You guys are way over thinking it.

But the issue is that your friendship would create an otherwise nonexistant connection between you and the victim. It would be best to distance yourself as much as possible from both the scene of the crime and the victim.

For the OP I couldn't do any mastermind plans because I see it as way too much work.

You think you know better than anyone and everyone else in middle school?

Personally I couldn't do any mastermind ideas to better the world because I have no idea whats better for who.
