a new electronic music movement that is very deserving of its own thread. very popular here in europe, i don't know about the states.

YouTube - 'Cozza Frenzy' (Original) | Bassnectar [HD]

YouTube - UKF Dubstep Tutorial (Presented by Dubba Jonny)

YouTube - Borgore - Nympho (Full)

(i'll prolly get some shit for that last song, but still.)

recently went to a nero concert. dubstep is best when it's extremely loud and you're surrounded by people dancing to it. you can literally feel the wobbles in your chest and it's amaaaazing.

Not new...at all, but that was already pointed out.

Maybe I'm a music snob, but I really hate this stuff. Especially when suburban kids freak out about it. Sorry for being negative, but I just gotta.

Dubstep isn't *everyone's* cup of tea. No worries, Meer.

It's also worth pointing out that there is a LOT of bad dubstep and music that isn't even dubstep but labeled as such.

alright alright, it's not "new" but it's becoming more and more popular, so more people are hearing it for the first time. whaaaaatever.

dubstep gigs are totally sausage fests, but i'm a lady and i still think it's some sexy sounding shit.

I haven't listen to it too much, but I'm really loving what I've heard so far. I do think though, that it can be somewhat monotone in it's expression variation wise, so I don't think I could picture myself listening through a whole album in one sitting.

Dubstep is primarily a male audience for one reason, you can't really dance to it. Women want to dance, move, and grind their bodies around. They like trance and house. Dubstep is for getting high as fuck and convulsing your body to enormous bass. Ever been to a big Dubstep event? half the party is whacked out on Ket. That's a guy thing, not a chick thing.

When I discovered dubstep I was mindblown as many are when they first hear it, but aside from a few really good producers, it all starts to sound like the same boring generic crap after a while. For a genre that was supposed to be based on freestyle form and sound, it has really grown pretty stale. That's not to say I dislike dubstep. I just dislike most dubstep.

If you like the wobbles and wonky goofy sounds, give some fidget house a try instead. It covers your wobbly basslines, there's a little mare variety in the sounds, you'll find tons of glitchy goodness, and it still gets the ladies out in full force...

as a member of the female party, i would be inclined to disagree. i went to a dubstep event (nero) and i danced for six hours straight and it was amazing. and i'm pretty damn sure i wasn't on ketamine.

i have to be in the mood to really listen to dubstep, and even then i do tend to return to the same favorite songs, but it's still quite sexy when it's right.

I was browsing this website and I came accross this thread, and so I decided to join and post my own opinions on Dubstep here :D

I adore it! Found out about it nearly a year ago and its easily the music I listen to most not. Indie and Rock come trailing behind it, tails tucked between legs.

I've always liked a lot of dance music, although I've always DESPISED house/trance music. Terrible to me really! A lot of my friends wouldent know the difference but to me its like black and white! Totally different things :D

Im currently living in Ireland, and yes, I'm a girl. Funny you say that mostly guys like Dubstep. I think youre right, its always them I end up having animated conversations about it with! :p Its a shame, I play it for my friends but they just dont like it:confused:

Some nice sounding music. Thanks everyone for posting.

One question: As a genre, how is dubstep defined?

It's become pretty formulaic.

140 bpm, half time. BOOOOM...PPSSCCHHH!
maybe some shuffleish perc in there, maybe.
Giant, distorted synthesizer with an LFO on the filter, WUB WUB WUB WUUUB WUUUB.

that's it.

You could say the same thing about any genre, honestly, Meer. That is the functional basis of a genre--music that is similar in style. You'd be missing the point, however, by saying that mass-produced tracks are indicative of the supposedly positive aspects of a genre as a whole instead of just an unfortunate side effect of popularity.

The tracks that true fans like to listen to are the ones that aren't just the same stuff over and over but rather the ones which offer unique combinations, patterns, and samples. There must be overall similarities to what the listener wants to hear of course or else it wouldn't be part of that genre.

Wtf is with all the youtube vids having incredibly stale comment sections? the sheer number of spammed dirty jokes is absurd. Some I found funny the first time, but who would deliberately go spamming the same jokes on every page they see? seems fucking lame...

Another dubstep liking female!

I also really have to be in the mood to listen to dubstep, but that basically goes for every genre for me. I like house and drum and bass better though, jungle and breakbeat even.

Dubstep doesnt need 'the wobble' to be dubstep and we're hearing that less and less as it progresses, in favour of the more mid range roars.

Dubsteps defined by the half step beat i.e house has a 4 on the floor kick pattern whereas dubstep is half time, if you get me.

Slow beats, fast basslines ;)

Also everyone check out Knife Party, Skrillex, Pixel Fist, Tremourz and Diesel for some good artists :)

Whoa, dubstep! My favorite music genre! Of course some of the first dubstep tracks I (and others for sure) heard, were those 'wobble' noises and huge (nasty, bricks-have-been-shat etc.) bass drops... but as you explore more, you find much more. I found some really artistic and enjoyable dubstep that you can even meditate to. Yet, I like my bass drop to be heavy :D
Also, I read here some of you think that dubstep is preferred mainly by male audience, but I gotta say, there are females who are thousand times crazier and dance more violently (?) to dubstep than any male/female I have ever seen on dubstep parties. Myself included ;p

Here is a variety of dubstep artists that you guys should check out: Substep Infrabass, Melamin & Wicked Sway, Dubsidia, Ajapai, Reso, Underhill

Also, has anyone thought of dubstep as a 21st century 'electronic metal'? :D

Yes, the rhythmic, low-frequency patterns play a similar role to that of down-tuned distortion guitars. Hmm... would be interesting to try and dub the lfo sounds characteristic of dubstep with a guitar. I wonder how it would sound in unison. Don't think I've heard that before. It should sound pretty awesome with a baritone, or an 8-string guitar. Damn, I need to try that out sometime:D
