Do you walk faster than most other people? I noticed some INTP/Js mentioning it.

I walk fast even during my casual strolls when I barely pay attention to my surroundings and if there is a place to be, I might as well be slowly running. My heartbeat and breathing rate do increase, but it's easily sustainable and doesn't stress my systems.

Is this just my wishful thinking and searching for more similarities or a more common trait among NTs?

I don't know if it's common, there are various reasons someone might walk slow or fast.

I do typically approach physical things are just "intervening steps to get to an end" though, while I'll thinking about something else. I tend to both walk fast as well as eat fast, unless I think about it and control my speed.

I walk 5.5km/h on average, If I am hurried I can go to 7 before I run.

I used to walk the distance to and from my school that each day was 6 km for 10 years. I also enjoy hiking in the mountains.

The longest I could travel was 40 km in one day, I think I could do more now, I was younger and less developed.

When I travel I don't stop, I eat while walking and I can read if the ground is level. Mostly I listen to some music or to the enviroment.

I walk slow. I do everything slow; I am my own time. I can speed up according to external pressures when needed, but I tend to ignore the external.

I walk faster than most when in crowds of people; don't like being too close to strangers (or anyone) for any amount of time.

Other than that I tend to walk at an average pace, perhaps a little faster than average. If I'm walking in nature I walk too slowly for anyone as I'm too busy being distracted by all the interesting birds, bugs and weird plants.

Someone frustratedly pointed out to me that I always walk *slightly* faster than everyone else around me. They thought it was a control/dominance thing. I pooh-poohed the whole idea, till one day I noticed I was having a much easier time looking at my [generic companion]'s face while they talked. I looked down at my feet and lo and behold, they were level with GC's. Started moving at a normal pace, neck cramp. Consciously held back, normal eye contact. Normal pace, neck cramp...

This goes regardless of how fast the other person is walking, generally. So whatever feels 'normal' to me is apparently whatever's a little faster than your dumb ass.

I also sometimes slow down so much I'm barely moving though. I'm in a complicated relationship with time and energy. Those two just can't get along! Jealous biddies.

I'm not sure. I would say yes, but it might just be because I'm really tall and have long legs.

Edit: I do ride my bike really fast though. I'm usually slightly late, so I have to.

Whenever I return from somewhere, people are surprised and say that I was really fast. Sometimes I do exert extra energy into walking but apparently I'm fast even when I don't realize it. Strangely I have these bursts of sprinting too; at least, observers may find it strange. It's exhilerating unlike the bore of walking or even speedwalking the whole time. I never walk with someone or a group so I can't make any comparison there. Does anyone else here trip a lot? When taking steps my feet don't leave the ground by much.

YUP, VERY FAST....
explanation:

1° when I go to work/ school I'm always late.. so always in a hurrry.
2° WHen I come form job/ school... I'm so fed up and drained by people at the end of the day that I want to arrive home very fast.
3° I love to feel like I'm in an anime... I walk fast because I love to go faster than people around me. Also, I love to feel the wind blowing crazily on my face.. like I'm flying. Silly but I love the feeling of flying and going fast.

Although and paradoxically, I love to be slow physically... I speak slowly many times, explain slowly, walks slowly at works, works slowly... I love to be slow. MAybe bcoz I'm arrogant and non-chalent, sure. But when I walk it depends, manytimes fast but I also love wandering.. And then I'm very very slow.

Yes, I'm a fast walker. I am, unfortunately, not a fit walker, so I tend to get all red-faced and sweaty unless I consciously control the walking speed.

Speaking of walkers: when my arthritis kicks in, I shamble fast, too. In those cases, I'm only slightly slower than healthy people and way faster than a zombie.

I definitely walk fast. Why? Because I'm trying to get there, not hanging around. Not so in the country when I'm walking my dog. That's my dog's business, not mine. Last week though I walked the road slowly. Why? Because a lens fell outta my glasses and I thought it might be along the road. Didn't find it but later my wife did. Car had run over it cracking it in two. That's going to result in split vision after I put the lens back inn.

I walk fast. It becomes obvious when I'm with a slower walker. The reason is because I feel like walking is a waste of my time. Most of the time it is not by choice that I walk, but it is something I must do in order to get on with my day to day activities. Usually I'll be thinking about things, so I don't notice it at all. That being said when I don't have work, or a job to get done outside, I almost never leave my house. I guess I'd walk slower if I was walking for the sake of it, or maybe I'd just end up covering more ground.

Yes

Am I supposed to elaberate?

On a scale of 1 to 10, 5 is the average person, 1 is grandma with cane, 10 is faster than a lazy mans jog.

Standard travel = 8
When with someone = 7, 1 point goes to the force needed to pull the other individual
When in front of Latte = 1, likely I am trying to eavesdrop on his interesting conversation
When in front of Jenny = 10, I am afraid of getting slapped
When with my grandma = 3, I'd go faster but it is hard to walk when your holding someone in your arms and if I put her down i would have to slow to a 1.

So far it seems there is a trend to walk fast among NTs. Common reasons:

1) (About to be) late.
2) Going somewhere with a goal and once set, we focus on getting there.

Might just be that over time our fast walk became the default mode. Nice to know there are more abominations like me :)

Okay. After reading this thread I'm quitting walking. I'm taking my bike ... just as soon as the ice melts. It's faster.

I don't walk fast either unless I'm late, more laidback than others. When doing so I'm usually thinking about a particular topic, and casually observing my environment.

You know what they say, "slow and steady wins the race." Unless of course you're racing fast and steady, then you're screwed!

I used to walk fast until I messed up my back, which was caused by overstriding. Now I walk kind of slow, but the walks are very refreshing and I have more time to contemplate.

I walk and drive extremely quickly (I expect better grammar from an INTP) and am extremely anxious to get on with the next task instead of wasting time on transportation.

Yes. Well I used to walk too fast. People used to telling me that I walk too fast and asked why? The thing was I did not really notice it that often and next big reason is that I am usually late. To school for example and it does not matter at all what time I do wake up I usually end up leaving late anyway... On the other hand it increased my cardiovascular capacity but it also does not matter that much in the end.

i definitely walk too fast, and i absolutely loathe being stuck behind people who walk slow (or what i perceive to be slow; they probably walk at a perfectly average pace).

i've had a few people give me side-eyes and even comments when i pass them by, as if my perception of them as slow-ass motherfuckers is somehow a personal slight. i can't help it. i just like to get where i'm going.

I often find myself in that position while climbing stairs. I swear, they are using most of the energy to talk to each other or whatever it is they are doing instead of moving. Saying "Careful, very hot coffee" works better than "Excuse me" or so I found out. It's a direct lie, but I haven't much to lose by now.

I don't curse at people who walk slower, I believe they aren't slowing progress on purpose. If they are in a global conspiracy however, I am so gonna minorly inconvenience them.

Yes.

Why?

A. We are already late when we leave our cage because we can't tear us away from our thrilling indoor activities.

B. After the appointment we don't expect worthwhile input from the outside world and hurry up in order to arrive in our heavenly cage as soon as possible.

Perfect, the only time I walk slow is when I know with certainty that my cage will not be the reward of walking faster. In other words, in any social setting Ill be tremendously slow, almost appear lethargic, and lag behind others just so I can create a cage back there for myself.

I'm not sure, but I do have a terrible sense of balance and posture when walking. Isn't this unease the reason we look down when walking? Took me a while to break the habit, and I still have to pay attention

I seem to be the odd one in the group... no. I actually walk slow in comparison to others.
I hate the feeling of... whatever it's called. Lots of exertion, for lack of a better word, and I just naturally do everything at a speed that prevents feeling like it's work, which results in my doing most things about as slow as cold molasses and also about as easy to stop.

Yes, at first it was usually only to get where I need to go (and thus out of a crowd) faster, but over time, it's become a habit. I do slow down when walking with a group, though.

Now a days I don't walk much fast. I don't even walk. I let the subconscious mind walk for me. I remain lost in some daydream.
