I found I was able to make WoW fun by multiboxing five characters at once, which was somewhat exhilarating. It would have gotten even better if I'd kept playing, as the levels of complexity were enormous when you get into scripting different characters and mixing different classes. I never even made it past level 25 and I was having a ball, some of which was just the fun I had in networking multiple computers together so I could manage it. Like any good INTP, to me it was about designing a theoretical set of characters that would be uber-awesome in the end game, and watching them grow into something heinous. Unfortunately, WoW is just a game and more rewarding pursuits beckoned me away...

I've got a much better computer now (plus the old ones I was using), and I could probably get 20-30 characters going at the same time if I wanted, which really, really makes me want to get back into it...

Edit: I chose not to vote, since I consider the game boring if you don't multibox, fun if you do.

I started playing about 5 years ago, but kept getting bored around level 40 or so and putting the game away for a couple months. About a year ago my brother had a max level pally that he wanted me to have so I'd help him out, and since transferring him I have noticed that being able to constantly switch specs and figuring out what seems like it would make me more powerful then everyone else has made it stay kinda fun. Unfortunately this also precludes me from any serious raiding or arena, as I am constantly fiddling with him, and in so doing screwing over my dps numbers or rating for that week. Oh well it's just a game, as I enjoy telling my friends who are alot more serious about it.

Yes, but I find all video games boring. They just don't entertain me.

i have yet to play HON. but league of legends is allot like a grind-less, chore-less, quest-less rpg.
its called a "multiplayer online battle arena" and your character is slightly set up like in wow, but it feels almost like a sport where there are 2 teams of 5 characters, and the object is to destroy the other persons base, with the only obstacles being 3 lanes of 3 turrets, and the 5 players on the other team.
you start of each match at level 1 with a level cap of 18 (which you reach in 30 minutes or so) levelling up your characters stats and buying items each game for each different situation.
its truley a great game that relies soley on tactical combat. i dont think my description can do it justice. try it out.
if you pm me ill send you a referral, or you can just google it if you dont want me to get bonuses.

MMOs are more fun if you put socializing first, and actually playing second. It's kinda like golf. Your all doing the same thing, and its pretty repetitive, you can talk about it if you want, but your probably spending more time talking about other stuff. I leveled two toons to 80 in one months time each, spend another month playing each at 80, then quit.

Personally I preferred FFXI, but the grind in that is ten times as bad, and there's a lot of things you HAVE to do but you might not feel like doing them, so if its the grind that you don't like, I wouldn't suggest it. Back in the day they kinda forced socializing down your throat cause you can't get anything done past level 10 without a group, but from what I've read that has changed. That said, you feel more accomplished when you get things done in FFXI.

WoW is pretty fun, although I do get bored from time to time.
I wouldn't call it a bad game. I've played many others that are far worse. (Aion or Age of Conan, for example).

Anyone think the new Star Wars MMO will be good?

Okay, I've been a MMO gamer since Ultima Online. I love the genre, but find World of Warcraft to be among the worst one out there. I swear I'm alone on this since so many people play it, but it is such a boring game. Questing has to be the worst idea ever invented for leveling. My friends can quest for hours, I do two and I'd rather play solitaire than do another. So I was curious, do you guys find WoW boring too?
1) You can now do either dungeons or battlegrounds or even straight up grind to level.

2) Leveling is NOT the purpose of the game. Levels 1-whateverthecurrentcapis is for learning how to play your class, so that by the time you get to the end game content, you'll know what you're doing.

Once you can GET to the end game, it becomes alot more interesting.

Leveling = sucks.
No guild + end game = sucks.
Bad guild + end game = sucks.
BUT.
Good guild + ingame friends + raiding = the most goddamn addictive thing I've ever experienced.

See, it's hard to explain to a nonplayer what's so fun about the game, but I'll explain my experience with it...

My older sister (by 4 years) got me into WoW about a year ago. Leveling, as I said, sucked. Long story short: I got my first toon (character) to 80, got bored, leveled an alt, got bored, ended up hating my first toon, switched to using my alt as my main...got bored again.
This was all back when I had a terrible PC. I got maybe 5fps, if I was lucky, and it was impossible for me to handle anything more than 10man raiding. Even then, my connection was unreliable, so I didn't even try to get into raids.
I hung out with my sister a lot, who hung out with her boyfriend a lot, who has a circle of about 7 friends who also play. My sister and I don't live near them, so WoW was pretty much our only connection. (Now we have Skype and Facebook and all that junk.) We were all in a guild together, but only 10 of us could raid a week, and I never asked to have a spot because I knew my PC couldn't handle it.

Fast forward to about 2 months ago. I got a new PC and was now able to raid. My main toon was a druid and healer, so I got a spot in raids. All of a sudden it was like...shit, I have a purpose to the guild now. I have something to contribute. I'm an active member, I know things, I can answer peoples' questions...it was awesome.
These days we raid nearly every weeknight. We're the top Horde 10m guild on our server; we're working together to achieve things that no one on our server has done yet. We're bound tightly as guildmates, raiders, friends. Each of us has a commitment to the raid; we can't function if someone randomly decides to take a night off, and we know it.

It's a lot of pressure. It really does feel like a job sometimes. But the satisfaction we get from FINALLY downing a raid boss that's taken us 15 attempts, or gliding seamlessly through the first three wings of Icecrown Citadel on heroic mode and then wondering how the hell we did it...
Well. You'd have to be there. P:

i think this applies to any game you play online. If you have a tightly knit group of friends whom you know IRL or know really well, any online gaming experience SHOULD be fun.

Protip: AIM, Xfire, ventrilo, IRC makes everything better and uh..... INTP FORUM VENT SERVER Y/N?

No no no no no vent, x9001.

Some people would have to learn to be extroverted for that to work, lol. People already freaked out when we first got a forum Snapvine. No one wanted others to hear their voice.
Speaking of, I should go take my entry off that...

Snapvine was a site that allowed people to upload and exchange voice messages and put players up on their web pages. INTPf had 2 players until the site got shut down.

There's technically nothing wrong with Ventrilo, except it seems redundant to set it up, when anyone can host Skype conference calls and talk to people (in fact, we have them arranged via IRC sometimes), but as Chimera said, a lot of people dislike real time communication using their vocal chords. :p

I remember Ultima Online too! but yeah, I found WoW fun at first, but then it seemed pointless... Quests are good for like a story/plot, but to level up is kinda lame. Just kill monsters or something...

I enjoyed it for a little while. I like getting to know the world, but after that it got old very very quickly.
Has anyone ever played Eve Online? I love it for all the politics and the way a lot of it can be and is influenced by the players. The only thing that's even remotely grindable is cash, and that really means very little on the grand scale of things.
EVE Online is a great game. I really like the scifi theme, not much into orcs and elves really. I got bored of WoW from just thinking about playing it and watching a few vids. EVE keeps bringing on the lolz though.

I've been having a strange urge recently to restart playing WoW and multiboxing again. It'd just be such a horrible waste of time though, and I know I'd get bored of grinding around level 20-30 again, if not before. If only they allowed roboscripting.

I concur, EVE Online really does sound great, although I only played it briefly and never really got into it.

I used to play EQ a lot over the span of two years or so then I finally observed it was killing the same pixilated X a hundred times over. That and my friends, who were a source of great amusing conversation, faded into obscurity. Now I can't look at that game without feeling sick.

I tried AO, WoW, other MMORPGs but they never stuck like EQ once did.

I've tried WoW three times and every time I get bored of it and quit. My bro's trying to get me into it again.

I like Korean MMOs pretty well, but quite a few of them also need some work. They keep my interest longer though.

No offence but WoW is boring, like most games these days. Too cartoon-ish graphics and overall it's very cheesy, so to speak.

If you wanna be a real man, try Gothic or Diablo. Old school, yeahh... :smoker:
Btw, I stopped gaming a while ago :3

I know. It's matter of taste, I suppose.
I'd rather play an RPG game with sort of "dark" atmosphere, preferably with a nice soundtrack. It just makes it more appealing and memorable, in a way.

I'm not a big fan 'elves, dragons and dwarves' type of thing, I find it cliche and boring, most of the time.

I've played WoW for last 4 years, I find levelling boring after the first time, and the whole game too grindy. The main reason I'm still playing is just the people I got to know over time and being officer/raidleader (which sometimes gives a lot of headache, but definitely reduces boredom). Plus doing some arenas on the side was fun, and the rated battlegrounds in Cataclysm have a lot of potential.

As far as actual gameplay goes, EVE Online is much more interesting than WoW - more complex, less predictable, and just more fun. Unfortunately I just can't dedicate enough time to it between RL and WoW raiding to join a serious guild. Plus as far as I know, the endgame in EVE is centered around territorial wars, which actually get pretty boring, and can be inconvenient as well when you are forced to come online at an awkward time and then spend a long time doing nothing while waiting for some PoS to leave reinforced mode.

Anyone play the expansion? I've been thinking about playing. I always come back for expansions, play a bit, quit, come back later when all the raids are out, then quit again. Rinse and repeat. Not sure this time though.

I started playing when it came out. I've only gotten one level in, but it's not bad, so far. Not a fan of how they laid out the "safe zones", or where the inns/flight points are, because the caves are sometimes difficult to find and I think it'd be kinda cool if there were a few that weren't underwater cave/air pockets, but that's just about my only real complaint. I'm in love with reorganizing/updating the vanilla zones. It makes it different, yet similar enough that it's nostalgic.

i played for 10 days or so (trial version) and it was 2 years ago.. the first couple of hours were okay but then it got very boring especially no one in this game was willing to help me :/ :)

maybe the newer version are better and you can do more on your own because past level 10 it was impossible to any mission because they were already to hard..

You were probably under-geared, from the sound of it. That's been mostly fixed. Many quests reward you with gear. It takes some understanding of the game to know what gear to choose. Basically, it's a game that you need to learn as you play. I actually really like the learning curve they give the game. You start with one ability, and earn the rest as you advance. I find it curious how nobody would help, though. There's usually at least one helpful player on. Tell you what, if you guys ever play on the server "Eonar", send Spaceyeti a whisper, and he'll answer whatever questions you have.

I can't say wow is boring. It is too addictive. I like the interactions with others the most. Also some PVP and PVE endgame is fun, but if there aren't fun people, the game just isn't fun. I have quit because of school, it takes to much time.

When I get the game back and running, downloading the client right now, I may start back but place one of those time restrictions on myself, there has to be a way to balance myself.
