Distinct non-INTP traits

Anyone have any very distinct traits that seem to go against the typical idea of an INTP?

For Example,
I'm a waiter, a job not particularly fitting.
I throw parties at my apartment pretty much every week.
I am very much so into dressing well and looking good, to the point of considering myself a metro-sexual, although I don't really do it to impress anyone, I'm just oddly intrigued by men's fashion.
Psychologically though, I am positive that I am an INTP.

Interesting. Waiter is one thing but Parties? Looks?

Mine:

Emotion as part of the equation.

Organizational tendency.

A very average person.

I actually... Can't think of any.
If anyone cares enough to point out some non-INTP traits in me, go ahead.

I care a lot about people, and don't have too much trouble helping them

I was a decent fundraiser

I was a waitress for a while

So... why is it a non-INTP trait to be a waiter/waitress ?

Small talk is key to good tips. And as we all know, most INTPs can't stand small talk. Not to mention we don't like forcing opinions on people, so there goes suggestive selling.

I'm actually a pretty good amateur therapist (lots of people write to me).
I can cry over sentimental things without being embarrassed.
I can emote/put off warmth decently in social situations (although it drains my batteries).
I have a sort of mystical-style spirituality.

But if you look at my cog functions and my natural approach to situations, it's Ti, not Fi.
And I can live without being 'compassionate' but i can't deal if I feel I've been 'unfair.'

Hm, so by saying that one of your non-INTP traits is being a waiter you actually mean that you are good at small talk and at forcing opinions ?

I do have fundamental organizational skills and I actually apply them on a fairly regular basis.

I'm not a cold unemotional machine. I've learned to understand that I do actually feel things. What it is I'm feeling is much harder to figure out. (I use the phrase, "I think I might end up feeling strongly about this..." often. When asked why I respond, "I have no idea". :p)

I'm not good at math.

I can't really think of any.
I have a very extraverted opinion on alot of things though. For example. I hate it when people just sit and whine about problems instead of acting and doing somehting about it.
I never said you can't think about your problems.. We all do, I do.
But thinking, and "whining" about a problem is two different things.
And in my opinion. thinking about a problem is also doing somehing about it, you're processing it.

Several people told me that I wasn't a INTP for the ignorance in that 'opinion'
I was insulted by their ignorance though. How does ONE opinion make me non-intp?
I cannot say.

And I like the gastronomy business (chef) alot. And that involves alot of working together, planning, and time schedules. Oh and stress. Etc.

Besides that, I can't really think of anything

Why does one have to like wood in order to work in a carpenter business?
Why does Alex have to be good at small talk and forcing opinions becuase he/she is a waiter?

I'm not saying he/she isn't good at these things, though.

Your question, truly did not make any sense.

Somehow... I can't see how any of these are distinct non-INTP traits, is there something wrong with me ?

Perhaps the people who say they're organized is... possibly a non-INTP trait, but if you search more you will find that INTPs can be organized too... I think for something to be clearly a distinct non-INTP trait it would have to involve behaving based on emotions and impulses or thoroughly enjoying small talk or gossip.

I fail at life? I basically suck at anything academic. Most things bore me. I'm either hyper-excited or sad. I like people, though they hate me.

Then again, I might not be an INTP.

I can be a bit of a ridiculous asshole sometimes, all bumptious and whatnot - this doesn't seem to be a very INTPish behavior. I also, under certain circumstances, get extremely happy/near euphoric, and start hugging myself repeatedly.

Hmmm... I still don't see it, would someone care to even justify why they think the traits they're mentioning are distinctively non-INTP ?

I like joking around and making people laugh. - I'm funny I think...at least...when I'm around people who appreciate my witty comments, it encourages me and I can become the most extroverted person in the group...

I'm very, very emotional under duress/stress and sometimes I just lose it.

I'll add more when I can think...

I didn't know there was such a thing as non-intp traits, the personality types are barely even a guideline.

But I'll bite: I enjoy giving speeches, being a teacher/tutor, hate monty python, and can be sillily superstitious.

I'm not telling you, stalker! :P
-Has a tonne of friends and acquaintances but never goes to parties.
-Connects with people really well, through the form of laughter.
-Has no problem opening up and being in the center of attention
-Funny stories always makes people laugh, I crack jokes regularly. (I even think I should be a comedian)
-Not sex-crazed, not girlfriend crazy.
-Not exactly the stay-in-the-background type, only when I don't know anyone well.

I considered typing myself as ENTP, but the ENTP description fits me nowhere as nicely as the INTP. Despite my openness socially, there's a lot of my private life that I reserve to myself (except for the parts which are fun to poke fun of because I like to make people laugh as they don't really do anything else that interests me) but that's only at settings that I absolutely have to be in (eg. school) and if any of my friends catch me at home, library or church, I'm really really reserved. :p

- I fail miserably at school

- I see serious value in human emotions

- I've become a pretty happy person

- I enjoy leadership positions (and I'm good at it)

- I like people on Mondays and then that all winds down until the weekend when I'm a bit lonely and actually miss the assholes :slashnew:(Perhaps that is pretty INTP though)

Contrary to other INTPs (on this forum) I...

...love theory and abstract ideas
...am a Truth Seeker - I want to understand things by analyzing underlying principles and structures
...value knowledge and competence above all else
...have very high standards for performance, which I apply to myself
...am independent and original, possibly eccentric
...work best alone, and value autonomy
...have no desire to lead or follow
...dislike mundane detail
...am not particularly interested in the practical application of my work
...creative and insightful
...future-oriented
...usually brilliant and ingenius
...trust my own insights and opinions above others
...live primarily inside my own mind, and may appear to be detached and uninvolved with other people

Are you sure you're INTP Anthile? Given those traits I would seriously recommend reassessing your type. ;)

Don't be fooled by the descriptions, It is more INTP than you think it is.

From a dangerously safe distance
Various things I've noticed about myself, causing mini-typefreakouts, mainly those of the omg what if I'm some strange feeler-judger, etc.-er variety. Keep in mind I have since given up on typing myself with any sense of accuracy, and I have no ego-stake in the idea of being an INTP....or anything. Only know that I'm a terrible person who would probably not admit to being dead at my own funeral:

- Can be very articulate when someone interesting/attractive is around.
- I don't like being surrounded by clutter, though I mostly refuse to clean it.
- I sometimes like to boss people around because I think I know things.
- I love to tell jokes, make weird voices/faces, and generally be delightfully annoying.
- Aesthetics matter way too much to me.
- I find it hard to ignore the fact that there is, undeniably, a great amount of suffering in the world; and thus am amazed at how easily some INTPs/people can discuss matters where great suffering is involved without being affected by it.
- I actually kind of like sports.
- No interest in anime, and only a mild interest in science fiction, depending on how interesting the underlying concepts are.
- I can actually be extremely charismatic (toot horn) at times.
- I actually enjoy seeing PDAs, or any display of pleasure/happiness, as it assures me that at least some people/creatures are happy in this world.
- Can be paralyzed from people-pleasing tendencies; would like to be liked by everyone, which is impossible.

Granted, I wouldn't say that any of these things would preclude one from being an INTP at all. There is an INTP-friendly explanation for all of these things I'm sure, but then, other types could also explain these (seemingly) much better. (read: fuck this. MBTI can go die in a fire for all the confusion it has caused, raping me with what-ifs, and being mostly unpleasant with its 4-letter gibberish lording over me like some psychobabbley deity blah blah blah.)
