It's coming soon. Blizzard better not mess it up.

Are you planning to play it? It's been forever since the release of Diablo II; they're hinting at a lot of much-needed changes to the gameplay. Plus there's the whole
real-currency auction house deal...

So my questions for you...are you planning to play D3? What class(es) are you most excited about? If you're not playing, why?
Did you play D2? What did you think of it?
And what do you think about the option to safely trade real currency for in-game items, without having to go through a third-party site?

Diablo 2 is my favorite game, and I don't really think there were a lot of much-needed changes to be made to the gameplay. Part of the charm of that game, for me, was the fact that it allowed one to be flexible with how they chose to play. Too many games are streamlined towards quests, leveling, raiding, and farming.
In Diablo 2 there was pk'ing and open duels, which led to a lot of the creative capacity for playing the game. There were many ways to play the game based on those allowances, and I think perhaps Diablo 3 will have much more structured and streamlined gameplay, which turns me off a bit.
On top of that, Diablo 3 isn't keeping the same kind of dark, dreary atmosphere and graphics that the previous 2 had. Instead, they're following the trend WoW set with the cartoony design - I don't really care for that.

As far as the trading for in-game items with real currency, it takes away from the integrity of the game itself. From a business-model point of view, it is of course a good idea, and that's why it will prevail; but, it takes away from the game because not everyone is playing on an even field. Having more money (along with the willingness to spend it on in-game items) gives an advantage and thus alienates those who don't buy with real currency.
Of course, Diablo 2 had d2jsp where people traded through a third-party system with 'forum gold', which in turn could be purchased with real currency. Blizzard had nothing to do with that setup, however; but people had a problem with how it effected the game and it's economy, regardless.

At any rate, the game is sure to be a major success.

Soon™

D2 was (and still is) fantastic. I was going to buy this game, but I'm not after finding out that is has always online (even in single player mode) DRM and it uses a micro-payment model.

Soon...when? I loved Diablo II, it was such a fun game. I would most definitely buy it, the class I am excited about is Demon Hunter. I might play the char, but I would have to think about it considering I was never into characters that use bow as a main.

SUPER EXCITED!! I have many fond memories of my days playing Diablo I. It has a special place in my hugely nostalgic personality memory banks, and I still talk to one of my online friends I met there pretty much every day (14+ years!).

Diablo II is one of my all time favorite games. I might even stretch that to say that it is (so far) the absolute most favorite.

In my opinion, Blizzard seems to have made a fine sequel in Diablo III. It looks like they kept all of the crucial elements that made Diablo II so fun for me (random drops, pacing, unique equipment). I also applaud their innovation with the real money auction house. I only marginally attempted the forum gold trading market, and I'm extremely happy to see them break ground and try something like this.

Additionally, I had a huge problem with PK in DII. I can't fathom why people found enjoyment in the activity of ganking others, and it really made public games nearly impossible for hardcore characters. I, however, did understand the enjoyment of arranged PvP, even if I didn't participate much myself. Thus, I am really happy to see the arena and the death of non-consensual PvP.

I'm also happy about what looks to be a better support system, and hope that duping/cheating will not be as much of a burden on the game this time around.

As far as what I'll play...I'm thinking I'll start with demon hunter, then move on to monk. I'll probably mostly play those two at first, and then maybe move on to wizard, witch doctor, and barbarian, in that order.

The "must be online at all times drm" is both aggravating and at the same time not really too much of a problem for the crackers.

I am not entirely sure what the drm thing means, but I think it could be fun to be online and be able to play with friends, single player games tend to get boring and most of the time in the modern gaming world, lacks replay value. But if it is multiplayer, and it has a definite end like a single player, unlike WoW, then replay would be great, can log on solo or group up with some friends, so many possibilities, reminds me of D&D possibilities but limited to a small number of classes and one world.

With my current understanding, it has potential to be a game one could play without it controlling their life like most MMORPGs do.

D2 is the only computer game i like(if solitaire doesent count). been playing it for almost 8 years and sure as hell will play d3.

First i thought that they fucked up D3, but as i looked more into it, its not that bad afterall, except the pvp arena thing.. and pvp is all that i want to play. potions in the pvp arena is soooo fucked up, i hope you can make games where there arent pots spawning on the floor. its enough that i cant spend hours in pvp game talking shit with friends and occasionally dueling.

About the real money auction house thing. i like d2jsp trading much more than some wow like auction househomo thing(seen what its like since some friends play wow). also using real money on pixels is just gay and this enables more noobs to spend money on pixels, but i hope that in D3 best items doesent make that much of a difference to just good items like in D2 and its playing skills that count more like in D2.

One good news i heard recently is that they try to balance chars from early on, at least for pvm. this is really good news for me and most my d2 mates, because i like to play with lld(twinks) since high lvl duelers are just bunch of noobs and lld is way more balanced and needs more skills.

Btw. any jsp members here?

Kind of off topic, but I'm really torn between D3 and Torchlight 2. Honestly, I'm leaning towards the latter based on how good the first one was.

But I'm liking what I've seen of D3 so far, especially the witch doctor class.

*squeeeeeeeee*

Any class can be a chick or a dude, and you can actually buy and sell stuff you find in the game and you can use/alter the environment... and yay!

I'm going to try the Demon-Hunter first, she looks fun. Or the Monk. Or the Wizard. Or the Barbarian. The Witch-Doctor looks less fun. Oh! I wonder what classes they'll add to the inevitable expansion pack?! The Monk looks like some Paladin-Druid cross and the Demon-Hunter looks like a bit of an Assassin-Amazon. The Wizard and Witch-Doctor seem to be straight Sorceress and Necromancer. The Barbarian was in D and D2 and will probably be in D4. So maybe they will have some Ranger-like character and some Thief-like character to add. I don't know. I'm just so excited!

Wow. the graphics and gameplay look impressive... and I'm glad they finally equalized the gender play instead of locking various classes into one or the other. I really enjoyed 1 & 2 at the time they were released. (I am, like, such a remnant -- I actually played the original Castle Wolfenstein 3D when it came out... heck, I even played the original castle wolfenstein on a friend's mac back in college -- look how far we've come!)
