Can I ask everyone who's playing to post their connection speeds here? This might help us to minimize latency by giving participants on faster connections precedence to host.

My connection:
Download: 7.04 mb/s
Upload: 0.67 mb/s

http://www.speedtest.net/

The speed changes drastically depending on how close you are to the server. However if it helps:

dl- 20.14
ul- 4.58

But I also happen to be <50 miles away.

And I thought my connection was fast. :(

By the way, the results might be a bit more relevant if you were to pick a test server that's at least 1000 miles away from your current location, and is also located in a major city (star).

I just respecced my necro into a hybrid golemancer/teeth spammer using an editor. I seem to be wiping out entire waves with the teeth spam and corpse explosion... and no, other than the skill reset I have not tampered with the character in any other way.

I am in act 3 and I am actually doing quite well. Survivability is not a problem with confuse and bone wall, very effective crowd control tools. Synergies really make bone wall a worthy investment now since it gives more life to bone armor (than the skill itself) and increases bone spell damage. Its an extremely powerful defensive spell since you can cast it as many times as you want, stops ranged attacks from getting to you and allows your own spells and attacks to pass through unstopped.

I love the necromancer. Easily the most flexible, versatile and supportive character in the game.

woo hoo, people are still interested! I was getting worried, cause it took me like 10-15 hours to install the game, and then nobody showed any interest after the first night.

there're no groups going, sugar, but I'd play again whenever. Sometime tonight, maybe? I'd have to use Hamachi, though.

Tonight where? I'm on CET, but currently doing a somewhat flexible circadian rhythm (cacophonia). I'll try to get the game installed.

Can we set up like a date when everyone can come on? Like this friday or something. I would also like for everyone to make a brand new character on this date so we can go through all the acts together!

We can call it: ^~Hell Night Fridays~^

If you guys agree tell me so I can d/l DII again plus LOD and the Hamachi thing. Someone's gotta show me how to use Hamachi though.

I'm with you on that. I should be available almost any time this friday.

I've installed the whole thing now. Which version will we be using?

Mmmm...don't know yet. I'll start d/ling everything tonight, then we'll see who is up for it. Then we can figure the time schedule and everything. Put breaks in there so we can eat and use the bathroom etc.

Everyone who played before is on the newest version, so let's just use that. When I said tonight, sugar, I meant it vaguely. I'm on EST, so one hour ahead of you. Truthfully, I've got nothing going on today, so if you lived anywhere between GMT and PST, I would have fit to your schedule :).

I'm going out to cut the lawn, now... but y'wanna say around 7:30 (for you) or so? Or would you rather just wait for everyone else and set a regular time, like crabs suggested? We could also just play tonight with whoever's around, then make a new character for the friday thing, or something. Whatever you decide you feel like doing: I'm flexible.

Wait...the new server? Is that battlenet? I have a pirated copy...so I can only play on a private server...

I'm sorry I misread you. You said newest version. Ok.

So crypt, do you think you can join us on Friday?

I want to make a list of people who are joining.

So far the list is:

Toad
Sugarpop - Right sugar?

yeah, I could/will. We'd have to play on Hamachi. I bought the game, but lost my LoD cd, so...... yeah. No Bnet for me either. I played on hamachi with Wisp and Decaf before, though, and both worked fine. Well.. wisp lagged, but that's cause his internet sucks. Decaf didn't at all. It works great.

Ok this is the information I am going by so far.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

We are playing DII LoD Version 1.12a using Hamachi.

The time will be Friday 10AM Pacific Standard Time (this time may change as we figure out people's schedules more.

Confirmed players so far:

Me
Sugarpop
Cryptonia

Players who still need to confirm are:

Inertia

If you wish to play/confirm your application. Please write a post stating the time you are available on friday using PST.

I heard last time no one showed up. This time it will be different.

Oh I also need someone to help me setup the Hamachi thing.

yeah, I could/will.

I already said I would :). 10 AM PST is sooo early though... were you intending to go all day? Eh... I guess it does work best that way, in case Europe-folk want in. Sounds good to me.

also: I'm done the lawn now, so if anyone wants to play tonight at all, make a game and leave a message here. I have a character in act 2, but will make a new one if you'd rather. Or I can just let my mercenary fight and level up until you hit act 2 :). ...how do you send someone messages on hamachi?

hm... ok, so apparently linux-hamachi is different from windows hamachi, or something. Are you in diablo2.intpforum.com? Cause I'm showing nobody online there. Also: when I right click someone's name, it doesn't give a chat option (though it may be because they're offline)

grr... so... I guess today was the day we were supposed to play? Unfortunately, I just found out that I have a doctor's appointment in 2 hours. However, I have a character a bit later in the game... so if you guys are still going to play, I'll (try to) join in with you after it's done (my hamachi may also not be working... I haven't had a chance to test it yet, and it didn't work the last time I tried to play).

So... whenever you guys do play, if you do, could you leave a post letting me know whose computer is hosting, for when I get back?

Not -truly- part of the game itself... I doubt you stumbled upon it without someone or something telling you how :P

yeah. My brother played with me a lot. I am bad at figuring stuff out on games, unless they are strategy games.

I can't honestly play the game anymore, lol. The controls annoy me too much, but I used to play it way too much.. Not sure I could find my CD's anymore though, much less CDKeys. Else I'd at least try the game again :P

I'd totally play with you, but somewhere along the line I lost my expansion cd key, so I had to go find another one online and it won't let me on bnet. Highly frustrating.

I was disappointed that the hamachi thing only happened once. It took a long time for me to get that thing running on linux, because I didn't know what I was doing.

In spirit of the Diablo 2 ladder reset happening today I thought I'd revive this thread.
I'll be making a necro on USEast HC soon as servers are back up. Anyone else gonna be playing on new ladder?

I used to play D2 all the time, but it just sort of got boring. I was hoping to try again after the ladder reset so I could try to "play 48 hours straight and climb to the top" or something. Reset got pushed back so long I forgot about it and never got to try.

I remember once losing an entire Hammerdin set a friend lent me: Shako, Enigma, Hoto, whatever that shield was (I don't remember its name), etc. I play HC, and was living with my now Ex-GF, she had some program on there that popped up an alert on my computer while I was soloing Chaos Sanctuary... Sad day.

Anyway, anyone up to playing? I wouldn't mind playing if anyones up to an Iron man challenge.

In short, everyone starts new Hardcore characters. (Softcore could work, however)
No weapons or items of any sort of traded to the new character.
All new characters participating in the challenge level in the same game from level 1 to 9.
Anyone who dies before level 9 is disqualified.
At level 9, theres 1v1 challenges in a bracket-type manner until a victor is found.

Usually the victor wins something: something put up by the challenge starter, or a pool of gold/items (d2jsp fg > ig gold, usually) from each challenger.

However, its fun to do as just a challenge.

Easily one of my favourite games ever.

I think I have 2 or 3 Diablo II games (exluding downloaded versions, ofc) but I can't run it on Windows 7 :/

Diablo II is a no go in Windows 7? If and when I start running Win 7, I'm thinking it will have to be dual-booting XP and 7.

I'm going to try revive this. Not sure what peoples opinions were of D3 but I wasn't best impressed with it, so was thinking of starting to play D2 again. If anyone's interested that'd be great. I'm gunna check out the d3 threads soon to see what the general opinion is, so I may be jumping the gun here but I don't care! aha

Btw it's all about hardcore :twisteddevil:

I don't remember, I have given up playing hack&slash 5-6 years ago, maybe if I happen to find my old cd's somewhere in the future

if you are into hardcore I have Baldur's Gate enhanced edition and didn't have time to finish it with anyone, so I'm open to these kinds of propositions

Cool, dig them out :P aha.

I once play BG at a friends, I didn't really play enough to form an opinion on it though. Might have to give it a proper try.
