Many people have studied the different personality characteristics of cultures. For the U.S. much of the consensus is that is exhibits a strong ESTJ preference. For many Native American tribes, there is a prevailing INFP preference.

Does anyone know of a culture that prefers INTP?

Okay, besides fun: I suppose any society would be predominantly composed of "J"-s. Otherwise that culture wouldn't survive long, since "Perceivers" are not that traditional, or do i confuse something here?

Guardians value experience, and they seek a tangible return on their investments. Believing in common sense, they are not attracted to idle speculation. They are the glue of civilization, maintaining and nurturing institutions that have been established by the dint of hard work. They tend to be conventional and cooperative in their work, wanting to make sure everybody gets what they deserve, no more and no less. They follow the rules of their cohort or group and expect others to as well.

Everybody would be some scientist or analyst or whatever, but nobody would do all the "indispensable but thankless jobs".
Perhaps the Vulcans at Startrek are a society of INTP? Well, perhaps they are more of a INTJ, being that strict and liking rules. Definitely Rationals though.

I would say Germany, or a Scandinavian country. A comparison to Hofstede's national cultures would suggest that Denmark would be a good candidate.

Essentially, utterly lacking in hierarchy(very socialist, lots of laws but little hierarchy lending to P and N) , very introverted(I), Quality of life vs Quantity(lending to P but a bit to F aswell) and low UAI (lends to N)

Denmark would likely be INXP

HM, interesting. Do you know Germany, Devercia? I am from Germany and i would most definitely not call Germany INTP. Germany is rather mostly composed of Guardians. People here are very "to the book", traditional (with the exception of the sensitivity to anything that could be related to Nazi-Germany), very orderly, most people like to make their discontent with society, economy and everything else public (They like to complain/mourn that is). So rather extrovert Guardians.

Perhaps your opinion about that came from the many intellectuals/scientists from Germany? Well, Germany was for a long time known to have a big intellectual elite, that is true (sadly it is diminishig lately). But the great masses of the people are just bureaucratic, traditional, obedient to authorities stupid drones. (Sorry, i like to complain too )

While P/J and T/F are fairly even splits on global populations...

I/E and N/S are both heavily stacked against us, stastically (about 75% E, 75% S)

But cares about statistics, eh?

Oh, BTW, INTPs and INTJs both (together) make up less than one % of the population of earth. That's why we're so brilliant.

I imagine such a nation would be a generator of fantastic ideas and place a high value on both art and science but would, as mentioned, be rather inefficient in realistic activity, but it would certainly be a nation of ideas.

I can't think of a country that may represent this well. I thought of Japan but I've heard people describe Japan as a more ISTP country. Nobody knows, really.

I think South Koreans are INTP's, lol. Not really, but wouldn't it have to be a country that was easily overrun by other countries, yet still able to maintain its own culture, despite that? That would describe S. Korea. Also, they're the ones that are willing to do those thankless jobs that are necessary (many things are manufactured in Korea). I've heard many people tell me that S. Koreans seem to be a humble country, overall, and I'd have to agree.

Well, but "doing the thankless jobs" is rather a Guardians (xSxJ) trait, not INTP. And i think especially the ability to uphold one's own culture is Guardian-like. An INTP would welcome the new culture as a new experience and new thing to learn. Or so it seems to me.

I wouldn't say North Korea. It is the very example of J. It is als very S. I would say N.Korea is ISFJ. Their acceptance and even promotion of an unjust harmony is an F trait. (who cares about justice when the greater number is happy?)

Japan would likely be simular, perhapse ISTJ. We like to think of Japans technological profusion as an N trait, but most of it is very conventional in scope. The N style concept gadget that we think of today is a product of the newer generation which is very much N as much as the previous was S. Also to say Japan is P and not J is a bit absurd. Japan focuses on Quantity of life vs Quality of life more than any other nation.

I still stand by Denmark as INXP, and thus the best guess. Its very laid back, very introverted and willingly accepts new ideas. It may be a bit F though.

A bit late I know, but yes Ogion, I was thinking of an archaic Germany, perhaps one that only existed in reputation.

Explains why my ESTJ mom is so "admired". (I'm american.)
