for some reason I find myself drawn to many things associated with types, so i figured i'd see if this forum is worth a whirl. Here's the numbers from that particular test site that everyone here seems to have used, and which prove that i am in fact an INTP. (they actually don't, i could easily falsify them)
I:95%
N:74%
T:79%
P:89%
I could include some personal details here but coudn't work out anyway to do so without it looking like a soppy dating site profile or a resume.

:(

Why do somany people think that inserting something to the effect of 'insert witty title here' or '*clever title* actually comes across as witty or clever?

The fact remains, it's boring, takes little effort, and everyone whose no-one does it!

Sometimes the most original thing to do is conform.

Way to make no sense Oreo.

Isn;t original the exact opposite of conformed?

And how to be original if conformed to all the individuals and ideals in a society?

Well for example, wearing a grey suit, nobody wears a grey suit because everyone subconsciously considers it the symbol of conformity, but if nobody's wearing a grey suit, if nobody is trying to conform, then isn't everyone trying not to conform, aren't they all conforming to non-conformity

To consciously seek conformity, is perhaps the height of unconventionality.

Yes, but conformity is less about the motivations behind a style, and more about the actual physical effects.

They do not research culture by asking first for reasons and then for traits!

If you wear a grey suit, regardless of whether it's because your grandfather did or if you wrote a ten page essay on how it conforms with humanities love of neutral, sombre colours, the fact that you wear what everyone is wearing means we can only assume you have conformed.

After all, where else would one get the idea to dress save from fellow humans?

Because anyone who considers fashion a topic for research is implicitly an idiot.

If you wear a grey suit, regardless of whether it's because your grandfather did or if you wrote a ten page essay on how it conforms with humanities love of neutral, sombre colours, the fact that you wear what everyone is wearing means we can only assume you have conformed.
But nobody wears a grey suit, don't you see, it's all perceptual!

After all, where else would one get the idea to dress save from fellow humans?
Fashion follows opinion, not observation.
Unless you're a self stylist who actually gives half a fock.

Edit: Do you think we're scaring the new guy?

Ok......now you've been Melkorized, you just need to be Fukyo'd.

Then you'll be on your way.

Just think of it a little bit like Hellfire. Not a big deal.

And welcome.

(I should think we *are* scaring the new guy, but I understand this is how the humans go about their first contacts... best to conform)

Oh? Don't you think fashion reveals interesting things about the less intelligent ones in the population?
(Because arguably the more intelligent individuals have no use for style, and a sense of style is often unintentional in them)
I mean, what use is it being clever if you can't subvert and control your fellow man?

Well then, if you, a grey suit wearer, are amongst a society of non-grey-suit-wearers of which the culture states that grey suit wearers are the norm, then you are to be congratulated for discovering a norm which has no physical manifestation.
In fact, you're probably touching on new ground here!

I would wear a grey suit, if only I could buy one, but they're not sold anywhere

I don't get it, how can you even discuss non-conformity today, in a world of over 6.5 billion people, who are mostly aware of the fact that there is another 6,499,999 people on the same planet, where more then 1.5 billion have access to the Internet (it's the Devil's Playground, I tell ya), where Lady Gaga maybe frowned upon, but is still adored by millions, where the bloody INTP's have there communities OF MORE THAN 5, where no matter how original, unusual, or weird you are, you can just Google (it's the tool of the Devil, I tell ya) thousands of people similar to you.
Attempting to be a non-conformist today would have to include finding a tribe of cannibals, joining them and living among them as a vegan. And even this solution is arguable, because there are thousands of vegans in the world and they mostly are weird and in touch with nature, so you can't be sure there aren't hundreds of them already living with cannibals.
Non-conformity started dieing back in 1440 when the first printing press saw the light of day, it struggled and barely survived the raise of the monstrous invention of television, but the Internet finally beheaded it in one short, forceful blow.
I would cry about it, if I thought it mattered.

How fashions differ throughout various regions of the world can also give insight into the culture and customs of a person. Or the lack thereof.

And I was expecting to be dazzled when I clicked on this thread because of the title. I'm severely disappointed. You haven't even written us a song.

oh lord, i shouldn't have slept between posting a greeting on this thing and seeing what happened to the damn thread, although i suppose probably should have. To respond to whatever accusations/quenstions i saw when breifly skimming over the list of replies in no real order, I didn't write a song because i wouldn't be that cruel as to butcher the very soul of song writing. I wrote that pretentious <insert witty thing here> not because i genuinely think it's an effortless way to be witty, but besause... well i suppose i couldn't come up with anything at all clever in the same mental state as the one in which i'd actually join a forum.

as for conformity, the conscious urge to conform is probably more the sign of an insecure extrovert than anything else, not necessarily someone of lower intelect. And yes i suppose in a world with so many people no-one is unique in their approach to life.

Relax a bit, I was only joking about the song business ;)
