Edit: Should those have been "You're" instead of "Your"? I have trouble with that.

Sounds like you should use your newfound wealth to hire an editor. :)

Genius.
I will be mad and unhappy, but it will all be entertaining.
Almost like my current state.

Wouldn't You're happy null out the negative aspects of being without the other choices? Unless of course, you'd be content not being happy. But if you chose anything other than being happy, (according to the rules), you cannot be happy, or content, or satisfied.

The question reveals more about a person, if the option of being happy was not included, IMO.

EDIT: But then again, it also shows if some people strive for things, even at the cost of their happiness. Sorry, I should have thought about that more.

I'm sorry Architect, but these are the kind of culturaly loaded(/ cultural bias) questions I chronically find myself incapable to answer... I must be an aspie lol.

I don't know if you asked the question to sort out/ (or to test ) the logically maniac INTP from the wannabies or whtever.. anyways, sounds like the overly vague, simplistic and questions I tend to ask people to test them.
-Happiness, what does that mean? what is that concretely?( I mean, we all know that happiness is a fallacy of the mind, an idea(l) with no concrete earthly translation..)
- Rich? In what proportion? millionaire or billionaire? money wise? Iq wise? happiness wise? Rich in what terms?
- Genius? In what proportion? - creative, litteral, financial, logical , lazy-genius?( Seriously genius is another-- same as rich, or happy-- relative and thus meaningless term people use... kmon architect dude !)
- Loads of friends who love you? PLease Quantify "loads", how much is loads? WHt is love, define love? Love is another idea(l) same as happiness... with no concrete, earthly, material translation.
-..Etc

I assume that you wanted to know what we as INTPs valued the most in our lives: health? financial wealth? friendship? intellect?

It's interesting because to me some of these cannot be mutually exclusive. What's the term for the opposite of mutually exclusive? inclusive?

Anyway, to me, true unequivocal genius would play part in enabling me to do great things. Do away with the majority of suffering in the world. Save nature from the ravages of humanity. Explore the universe and seed life throughout it. Perhaps even achieve a long, healthy life filled with great friends who love me...

Of course, it'd make it easier to get rich too.

BUT, picking between them I suppose the only logically self-serving answer is "you're happy"...

 great now I'm going to be a morbidly depressed, lonely, poor, low-achieving smart ass who dies young from degenerative diseases...

I can't really answer the question.

It's like asking me, if I had to lose body parts, which one I would want to keep:

- My right hand
- My left foot
- My right eye
- My nose and ears
- My left lung

I don't think the items are mutually exclusive, some actually work in tandem with others; and I think they all contribute (more or less) to some level of valid happiness.

Of course, it'd make it easier to get rich too.

Well, yes, the test says that wouldn't be possible.

So you'd be a friendless, penniless, depressed, sickly genius. Pretty much your genius would be all for you, to help you understand the world, but forget being able to do anything productive with it to help humanity.

 great now I'm going to be a morbidly depressed, lonely, poor, low-achieving smart ass who dies young from degenerative diseases...

I think that sums it up.

...But at least you had us!

Okay im blind and jenny is way more intelligent than I am. I didn't notice the your usage for being happy. You're happy so your happiness is what you have... hmmm... english is stupid a person is a person and not a feeling. This is all bullshit. Fuck english. No wonder no one can understand eachother.

I picked genius but I want it to be about the human mind and emotion. This way I can make lots of money off it and then make myself happy using my amazing skillss. Except im already always happy. Even when people die. Does that mean im manic?

The big thing, to me, that sticks out is the happiness option. The big question is, can you be happy without money, friends or love, knowing the truth, or health?
However, according to this question, I guess you can be.

Also, it is stated that the choices you didn't pick, you would be poor. You would have little to none of the other alternatives.

If you are rich, but cannot afford happiness, content, or satisfaction, then money would be completely pointless. It's just a number. And you are not allowed to be content having that number represent your material wealth.

If you had lots of friends and love, but cannot be happy with them, then they too are pointless, meaningless. They have no value, if they provide no contentment, or satisfaction.

If you have the complete truth of everything in the universe, yet you had no validation or affirmation from anyone, where having the truth did not fill any need for satisfaction, or contentment, then knowing it would be pointless and meaningless. There would be no value in knowing it.

Living a perfectly healthy and long life, without any satisfaction or contentment, would again, seem to have no value at all.

Yet, if I was wealthy in satisfaction, contentment, and happiness, even though I was poor, without love or people, dim-witted, and terminally ill, there would still be value, and meaning, even if it was a delusion. I would rather the option of being happy.

Genius, if only. If only I had gotten over my fears of penmanship and composition and reading before I had to prepare for college. Then I might have been able to read enough to get my comprehension to a high level, my speed to a high level, and my composition to a high level...all before I had the opportunity to fuck up my life.

Edit: Should those have been "You're" instead of "Your"? I have trouble with that.

I didn't know native English speakers have this problem. As a European guy I made the mistake sometimes, maybe still do if I am in a hurry. Interesting.

I can remember English tests where I made the mistake and slapped myself because it is such a silly error. Maybe it is because it sounds the same.

I over-analyze the poll. If you are rich can you buy happiness? Or a genius, if you are you have the stuff to get rich and happy. All these things lead to happiness. Or may lead to.

I don't want to live long. Not now I am feeling rather bad. But I don't think so when I feel good. I never really felt good, apart from the first years of my relationship.

I'd like to be a genius and it pisses me off I am not. I am only above average with my IQ. And so I keep wondering wtf I am missing. Really disappointment for me.

Lots of friends who love me, I like that. I need friends really really desperately. A social network or backup group.

I like to be pathetically wealthy but rather have love in my life. I think if I had loads of money I mean millions, say 20m dollars, I think I could buy happiness.
Money opens doors. And women. I always remember seeing that Argentina or Brazilian football player, he looks like a bloody...gremlin but on his arm a lovely woman. I refuse to believe she thinks he is cute. He looks like a rat that was mutated into a man. I am not handsome, but good enough to be considered if I bring millions to bed.

So I choose happy. Because that implies I got that money, that special woman, and can buy friends too.

It is all a state of mind. Nothing contributes or removes from happiness unless you allow it have value. I believe there was a monk who burned himself alive and was within joy doing it. Some would say he is insane . I would say he is a genius. Maybe a little crazy but that is not the same as insane.

I feel like I am missing a joke. It's your. "Your" is ownership. "You're" is being something.

Your life
Your wealth

You own those but you are not those.

Yes,your is about possessing something.
So it will be 'your' life.

But in the poll, it is all 'your', which should be you're (meaning you are) as the poll is
about being something (being happy, genius or whatever),

but if we have to judge this really critically, then the whole poll is wrong,
because the questing is 'which you rather be wealthy in?' where 'which' is asking for the form of wealth and so the options must be in noun forms of the wealth in order to maintain coherency. For example:

1) Money.
2) Lots of friends who love you.
3) Intelligence.
4) Happiness.
5) Healthy and long life.

Sorry, if I am wrong, English is not my first language.
I am even worse in my first language. T_T

Without further derailing, I am now going back to the topic.
Among all the choices happiness seems to be the most logical one as we want all types of wealth to ultimately make us happy. So happiness is supposed to signify we already have what we want, or we are content with whatever we have.
Read further, to get a detailed explanation on this matter.

1)We want money, to gain the potential to buy things and other things, to make us happy. We don't really primarily want money, we primarily want happiness and
we choose money as the medium and in doing so many forgets their primary goal and get stuck in a loop of money making.

Money is useless if one does not get happiness from it.

2)Friends and their love for me, is also pointless if those things don't provide me any joy.

3)Healthy long life is effete if it consists of no joy. It rather become a curse than a gift if happiness is absent.

But the gamble between intelligence and happiness is a bit hard for me.

Will I be genius and unhappy or happy but dumb?

Now genius is a broad term, it indicate a lot of things:
a genius in running, a genius in maths or whatever.

But in this scenario, I want to specifically talk about philosophical genius.

Now in philosophy, there can be a dark phase of pointlessness and depression,
but a real genius, must be able to circumnavigate and transcend that phase by rewiring the mind. Fear, anxiousness, depression over anything is absurd and pointless, and a real genius must be able to overcome them.

If that phase it transcendent then with a well defined outlook on life, and a higher understand, a genuine philosophical genius must be able to gain much more consistent and long lasting peace and happiness that exists without much dependence on external simulation.

So, I guess, I should prefer to be a genius.

But as I am not a genius but a rather obtuse kid, may be choosing to be genius can be a bit risky, so to be safe, it is better to choose just happiness, perhaps.

I spent all morning thinking about this since it was an important life decision.

At first I chose rich but realized I'd be too stupid to know how to spend it.
Then I chose lots of friends who loved me but I realized they were all in Australia and I lived in a state where everyone hated me.
Then I chose genius but like Ted Kaczynski I would have to live in isolation where no one cared.
That reminded me I could be healthy and live a long life, but what if it was life in prison for a crime no one knows I didn't commit?
So I chose happy even though I knew a Mack Truck was bearing down on me right at this moment as I joyfully texted this message to you in my automobile. Even if no one escapes a Mack Truck, I'd die right away happy.

Frankly, happiness is the only choice here if happiness includes all shades of good feeling (satisfied, content, pleasure, euphoria etc...). What good is money or that other's love you or genius or living a long and healthy life if you can't be happy. Life is experiential. If you choose any other option, you by definition will be some shade of unhappy.

Nicely described.

I was thinking along the same lines, albeit less eloquently :3

The others are things we strive for to achieve some shades of good feeling, but they do not even guarantee we have one of them, and it is highly unlikely they will provide all of them.

Happiness is a marvelous shortcut to what the motivations for choosing the other things are actually about... and will utterly make impossible the discontent we might have now about the idea of being happy, but not rich/genius etc.

This poll shows that the intellect is the INTP compensatory ideal. So much of our hope is wrapped up in a wish to understand everything. If we don't understand something, we cannot ignore the failure.

Then again, I have learned that being happy and healthy is a factor in having genius, as stress and malaise really detract from noticing more.

How about a constant manic state where you see reality through an only possitive lense thus you dont actually see reality. I think we can achieve this by tying you to a table the rest of your life and inject you with high doses dopamine. We may have to keep increasing the dose but at least you will die happy.

My mother in law is happy all the time. She also sees things and is mentally unrealistic. I dont ever want that. I would rather be a genius and know reality for what it is even if it is depressing.

I would be very happy myself, once the pain went away.

...Anyway, when you frame yourself against eternity, life vs death seems to diminish as a question. It's more how you live and how you die that seems to dominate. That monk might have lived another ten years and died in his bed, but for what point, if he were not living according to his own sense of values?

If you're talking about circumventing an unhappy state through drugs I doubt this will provide REAL happiness. Take an addicted drug user. Cocaine or heroin or alcohol or name your poison addicts, know the difference between drug induced euphoria and real happiness that comes from within. For that matter, I would bet drugs used for depression, anxiety or other mood disorders are a qualitatively different state. You can't inject 'coming from within' happiness. And there is a difference.

That's another good point. All motivation stems from some drive toward feeling good/happy etc...If you're a genius, you would soon stop any form of intellectual exploration if it wasn't pared with some good feelings. Same for riches, friends that love you etc.

Maybe we should wait until we get the nuerochemical mixture just right so you can have the happiness you speak of. The matrix might come sooner though. Hmmmmm

Well, that would be nice but I'm not holding my breath. I reject the reductionist argument that all can be reduced to biochemicals and that science just needs to find the right mixture and viola!, we've been freed by science. Humans are much more complicated then mere chemicals. If you're stressed and unhappy, you can get drunk or high tonight (even if you're not addicted) and feel wonderful but the next morning you feel just as shitty-if not worse. That's because we're just as affected by feelings and thoughts regarding our actions and actions done to us. We interpret things all the time. Our interpretations are just as much if not more to do with our feelings as chemicals.

You're rich - but apparently you have no friends, and you're stupid, and you're not happy and won't live long. You can buy death, destruction, prostitutes, nice cars, and food. If you're an asshole, people could easily make your money mean nothing. Be a genocidal king despot if you like, or pure hedonism. Or comprehend how idiotic you are and give away your money to "good" causes? lol

You have lots of friends who love you - BUT in opposition to option #4(Happiness?) - Fucking narcissists chose this option, man. And collectivists. REGRESS INTO THE HIVE MIND AND IT HURTS LESS. ZOMBIE

You're a genius - You're lonely, poor(eh?), and won't live long, and you're unhappy. But you can probably do more good for the entire world then all the other fucking idiots in existence. You're surrounded by "happy, rich, long living, and lots of friended" IDIOTS.

You're happy - But stupid, lonely(maybe?), and poor and won't live long. So basically you're doped up on drugs until you die. ZOMBIE

You're healthy and live a long life - but stupid, lonely, poor, and unhappy. You're a fucking walking-comatose patient. ZOMBIE

To fit the definition of 'healthy' you can be neither mentally retarded or miserable. I could easily argue that to be perfectly healthy is to be perfectly happy within natural biological/chemical constraints. A healthy, perfectly developed body begets a healthy, perfectly developed brain; so you couldn't be cognitively impaired either. Plus I enjoy solitude and scoff at materialism, so 'health and longevity' is really the obvious choice.

Not to mention that you can't benefit from new technology when you're dead. :borg:

Our interpretations are just as much if not more to do with our feelings as chemicals.

Exactly what I was trying to lead you too, so we are on the same line of thought. So why does happiness matter if genius can help with that interpretation? Why does happiness matter if we are more than just our emotions?

This is where my understanding differs from yours, I think. Maybe I am missing something...?

Damn didn't read op first, didn't realize you'd be poor at all other options besides the one you choose. -1 to rich and +1 to genius.

Where do you live?

ZOMBIE

Disliking zombie is something one does from a perspective of seeing oneself as relatively non-zombie with co-occurring other aspects that makes one find people being zombies an obstacle to one's own happiness, be it in an abstract-aesthetic sense (FIUCLFQ UGLY ZOMBIENESS) or in more tangible ways.

To choose based on this is to choose based on current ideals rather than based on comparing how much closeness to their own ideal world the hypothetical future selves will experience. In a sense (in truth), the latter is also based on a current ideal with a higher meta-level.

Choice change!
I will be a genius!
By becoming a true genius, I can find out ways to be happy, to be rich, to be immortal,
to do social manipulation to make friends, and everything!

With money I can buy education, nice friends (I give lots of money away to charity so that nice people start liking me, I also give lots of money to scientific endeavors to get some brainy friends as well), I can also get plastic surgery and drugs. Happiness will come naturally. Money is the safest bet.

Exactly what I was trying to lead you too, so we are on the same line of thought. So why does happiness matter if genius can help with that interpretation? Why does happiness matter if we are more than just our emotions?

This is where my understanding differs from yours, I think. Maybe I am missing something...?

No, we're on the same page. I was just relating to the OP. If you choose genius, you can't have happiness (the way the poll reads). Frankly, outside of this thread (the way it's set up), you don't really need a high IQ or genius status or even a normal intellect for interpretations. You need an ability to keep your mind open to other possible interpretations which could be related to humbleness as a more important factor related to happiness? Just a thought...

I have (very tastefully) fixed the poll.

The difference between me and the priest is that the priest is an intersubjective morality equalist, while I am an intersubjective perspective realist (as far as intellectual perception goes at least).
Assuming 100% conversion chance, I don't see strong benefits in terms of good feeling from being Shiki rather than human. It seems quite the opposite, actually.

That said, in a case where it was actually so, though... knowing myself, my current perspective/programming at a meta-level below that which could make me choose to become what I now find obscene(shiki/zombie), might override less personal-subjective/meta-aware measuring of my choices, leading me to choose against my best interests in terms of projected good feeling. For example, if instead of happy in the poll, it would say "happy torturer of the whole of humanity delighting in the suffering of others", my more personal, meta-wise lower perspective would most likely override the higher-meta one when it comes to making the choice.

@CC It becomes better after a whale. A part of the feeling of the anime comes from how it changes. The first episodes do not indicate strongly how the anime will develop in terms of storytelling and the characters.
