Hello, I have come to visit this forum again after a long time and I'd like to get involved again. But I really don't like my username any more. Is there a way to change it/have it changed (I didn't see this option on my control panel) so that I don't have to start over with a new account?

Edit: read the " name changes no more" thread in the " general" forum.

The short answer is no. Also, don't make a second account. Doing so makes our perimeter security go off. Then it's nothing but loud noises and irritating bright lights.

I think it should be a function that opens up after you've posted for x amount of times, like the caption under your username. Ideally there would be a limit of course.

Well, it sounds like they don't want to do it due to the confusion of too many name changes and no way for members to track them easily...

... but I've seen point systems on some forums that allow members to spend some of their points to change both usertitles (which here are free) as well as usernames and even the appearance of the username.

Anyway, due both to the increased server load and the safeguarding of the databases, and the confusion caused by name changes of long-standing members, it has been decided that from now on there will be no more changes except under exceptional circumstance. Which includes stalking fears and harmonization with other boards, but for both of which some proof may be required. Such requests will only be considered by a PM to any admin who will bring it before committee.

The biggest reason is a bunch of "nasty" SQL queries have to run on the DB servers, and the database for the forum is just getting too big. In some cases, a username change can seize up (meaning no one can use that server for the forum) a DB server for 5-10 minutes. Forces a few full table scans on many gigabytes of data.
